Hello hello :-)

It''s time for my next upgrade. My original center stone was a horrible piece of ice, marquise - we were young and very ignorant when we got engaged. While I love the ring to this day because of what it stands for, we both agree, it''s not something I need to wear, it stays in my jewelry box for sentimental reasons.

My next stone was a gorgeous GIA Ex/Ex/Ex .76 round from GOG set in a white gold non-tapered cathedral. I have two bead set bands with .35tcwt each that I wear on either side of the center stone.

I wear a size 7.5.

I''m looking to upgrade for finger coverage purposes and have selected the setting for the new stone - it''s the matching setting to the two bands that I already wear - so the center stone will have bead set rounds on either side going down the band.

I would like a halo, I think - this is still being considered.

I''m looking at GOG August Rounds and Cushions, radiant cuts and ideal rounds. I am a total fire lover - I am addicted to rainbows!! I have had this upgrade for a few years now and I stare at it constantly still - it''s gorgeous!! Who knew a diamond could be so gorgeous?? Once I found Pricescope, I learned exactly why they are a girls best friend... and I want LOTS and LOTS of best friends!

So, my question - of the cuts that I''m considering - are there any arguments out there to favor one cut over another when increasing to approximately 1.5ct center stone in the shapes mentioned - specifically for someone who LOVES fire?

Thanks everyone! :-)

Hi Jypsie

Well personally I would look at the AVC/rounds from GOG and also a top cut round to begin with, also Jon could do a comparison video for you should you have AV's versus modern round to give you a better idea, might be worth thinking about?

Based on the vdeo''s I''ve seen on GOG''s site, those August Vintage rounds and cushions have a ton of fire, but so do ideal rounds. Since you''re also looking for finger coverage, I think I''d ask John to do a comparision video of all 3 in the same size range and go from there.

I would definitely recommend the halo if you want finger coverage, though you will notice a huge size difference between your current .76 and a 1.5! I wear a size 7.75 ring set with a 1 carat stone and a halo of .03 carat sapphires, so the diameter is approximately 12 mm across the top of the setting. I feel that this is a good proportion for my finger, especially because I don''t wear a lot of other jewelry and I want my ring to stand out.

If you are a fire lover, the August Vintage stones from GOG will certainly give you that. If you prefer the shape of a round diamond, then I''d suggest talking to Jonathan about selecting some rounds in your carat/color/clarity range that are cut more for fire than for brilliance. He could make a nice comparison video for you with the rounds and the AV.

Good luck and come back with photos!

This is a good idea.

Fantastic idea! I hadn''t even thought of contacting Jonathan about getting size comparison video.

BTW, I just want to say - This is the most awesome group of people within the jewelry admirer and industry workers that I have had the pleasure to chat with.

And regarding GOG - I live on the other side of the US now, I grew up in Westchester, New York - unfortunately I didn''t know of GOG at the time, I found them shortly after moving to the San Francisco area... the people at GOG are amazing! Very considerate, friendly, good sense of humor and patient. Thanks so much for all the answers, opinions, and for shipping so promptly!

Thanks again. I''ll definitely keep this thread updated as we progress. I''m still looking at settings - so this won''t be within the next few weeks, more like the next few months (I''m slow to move, I want to make sure I''m making the right selection - I won''t be upgrading again for at least another 5 years).
