Hi!! I saw that you wore the Melissa Sweet Dora dress. I am so in love with this dress, I am thisclose to buying it!!

I wanted to know how tall you are and how high the shoes were that you wore? I am 5''6" and I am worried that hemming the dress will take away some of the fabulous flare shape at the bottom. I saw a girl who was selling her dress on Ebay, it said she was 5''7" and wore 3" heels I think, and her dress seemed like it was a little more A-line after being hemmed for her. Maybe she decided not to get it fitted around her hips so it just looks more A-line since it is looser around there....I can''t tell.

I am still debating whether to buy the dress or not, mostly because FI thinks its ridiculous to spend so much on a dress I wear for 1 day....wondering if you had any plans to sell yours? I admit I have been stalking you on here a little just because I googled Melissa Sweet Dora and your posts came up, so I checked it out to see what the dress looked like on a real bride!!! I saw that you were a little conflicted over the price too....so wondering if you had any plans on selling and how much you think you might recoup? The Dora on Ebay went for $3300, which I think is absolutely insane!! Normally a used dress goes for about 50% of the retail price!! I ask because I think I''m going to sell mine after the wedding too (if I get this dress!!)...trying to work the resale price into my negotiations with the man!!!

Thanks so much for any help!!

PS I saw you are from Canada...I''m getting married in Calgary next August, moving there this Christmas

*bump* for Karasue

Thanks Miscka!!

Karasue... did you already buy the Dora dress? Or do you just KNOW that is the dress you are going to be buying? I saw your post about the birdcage veil and you said you dress was the "Dora", granted the pictures were from a fitting, but I didn''t know if you had bought your dream dress! That would be great if you could get the dress a bit cheaper...

I haven''t actually purchased it yet, mostly because of the debate (with myself and with FI!!) over how much I should spend on the dress...also I live in NYC right now so I''m waiting for the sample sales in Nov/Dec....plus I have almost a year until the wedding!! The pictures were just from trying on in the salon...my MOH somehow convinced the sales lady to let her take a picture...I''m too chicken to ask!

But, I absolutely LOVE Dora, no other dress has made me feel giddy like that!! So, I''m still trying to reason it out...plus I am concerned about the dress losing some of its shape with some of the length taken off the bottom.

I am wearing the "Lia" by Melissa Sweet but also tried on the "Dora" and loved it as well. I also tried to find replicas of her dresses but for me it was worth the money to buy the real thing. You have to do what is best for you but the real thing was worth it to me. I say that if this is the dress that you adore then I say get it...but that is my opinion.

Hey karasue!

I am glad i just clicked on the Brides thread (i''ve just be looking at the family threads lately!)

I''ll try to answer all your questions and just include a bunch of details that may help you get an idea of how the dress ''wears'':
I am about 5''4 and I wore 3 inch heels to my fitting when the dress was hemmed. These were the shoes i ''thought'' i would wear on the day of, but after practice dancing and walking in them ,i could not. In a panic I actually ended up finding of 3.5 inch wedges at payless of all places and wore them. I was worried about the hem, but i think the dress flowed well and was not too short at all.

Also, my dress was very loose on my on the day of the wedding. B/w my last fitting and my wedding day i lost almost 5 lbs (not on purpose) so the dress was not as fitted as it should have been--i had to stuff the bust! I mention this b/c i am not sure why the ebay seller''s dress looked more a-line--i am curious to see the pics.

I was initially thinking of selling but lately have not given it much thought. Do you think my dress would work for you?
(other details: 5''4, weight about 120ish, have a very small b-cup bust, 29 inch waist ,blonde hair, blue eyes--haha just jokin --feel like i am writing a tacky personal ad here

)

As for splurging on the gown--ultimately i do feel it was worth it. I paid for the gown myself and no one really knows how much i spent but for me it was the dress that fit my personality best and i had to go for it. Judging by the amount the ebay seller got for her used dress it does look like re-sale is a good option.

i''ll try to post some more pics for you tonight--the ones i have up here are not that great, i need to get around to posting some others

Just looked at your pics from P of B
you look great in the Dora...it''s so neat to see someone else in that dress!

Never considered a bird cage veil before--i''d be interested to see how it looks together... i think if it had the swiss dot pattern it may go well.

I made my veil for next to nothing.I bought the tulle from a fabric store, bought a 1.00 comb from the dollar store (no joke) and some pears to cover my glue-gun job at a craft store. I think it cost around $22 altogether. hehe. Nothing like wearing a $4k dress and a dollar store veil. Gotta pinch pennies somewhere right?!

Yay!! I''m so glad you looked at this board, I don''t think there is a way to send people a private message on here is there? I check www.weddingbells.ca too and they have a private message function, which really handy...

Anyway, as much as I can wish that I will drop 10 pounds before my wedding, I just don''t think that will happen...otherwise I would love to buy your dress!! Also, I''m 5''6" and I think I''ll wear 2-3" heels, in addition to the fact that my chest is a bit larger (D), it just wouldn''t work.

I did look at some of the pics you posted (like I said I''ve been stalking you!!) and you looked so great in the dress....if you have any full-length pics though, that would be awesome so I could see the shape of the skirt. Here is the link to the girl from ebay..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260153028452&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:PIC&ih=016

Am I crazy or do you think it looks more A-line too? I definitely think you could sell your dress on Ebay to recoup some of your cost. Unless you feel very attached to it, which is totally understandable, I say do it!!

Ya, i think you are right! I feel like my dress had a bit more of a trumpet feel to the bottom of it (obviously not as pronounced as a trumpet skirt--but not a-line either)
maybe it''s just our body types--i have no hips or waist definition (ugly boyish shape) i think that is why i liked the dora--the skirt is fuller at the bottom
--it also has crinoline and possibly she got extra added to make it fuller? who knows

I am going to try to post some pics--stay tuned--may start another topic thread so check there

just going to try one or two here first b/c i am terrible at posting pics

Hi Jas12,

Hope you''re checking this forum!
I''m not sure if you''re still wanting to sell your beautiful Dora but I''m also very interested in your dress!!
I''m 5''5", 26 waist, 32 bust, - I have a feeling your dress might be a bit big but could be altered.

Anyway let me know if Dora is for sale - (yes I like to call it by the name.. its so precious )

I''m in Toronto so I can come see it too! Well I think you''re from Toronto anyway from my meager stalking PS skills
Ok I won''t get my hopes too high for now, until I hear back from you.
