Jeff White wins 2011 AGTA Spectrum Award for Facetting

That’s pretty neat and thanks for the picture, Jeff. It looks sort of like a cross between Portuguese cutting, princess cut and some fancy crown work (small diagonal table) ala OMC all combined together.

Congratulations on winning the award, and what an amazing result!

That is a beautiful stone :lickout:  , congrats on winning the award!

Congrats to Jeff, which category did he win the award? There are several catagories for faceting awards.

Yay Jeff! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Awesome design, Jeff! Congrats!

Thanks all for the kind words and congrats! I'm flattered. Sorry for the delay in responding - I haven't posted since the board was upgraded, and it took me a while to figure out how to log in!

No great photos yet, but I did snap a quick one prior to shipping the stone off (below). I hope to take better photos when it is returned. It is currently in New York getting a professional photo shoot.

The design is a completely new one that I've been working out in my head for a year or so now. In case you haven't noticed, I gravitate mostly toward classic shapes and cuts, so I created this design in a traditional "pillowy" cushion with high crown. The morganite itself is 48.83 ct. and flawless. I will probably put together a little something for the next Gem Scoop (if I can ever find the time to send it out  ) detailing some of the steps involved in cutting this little guy.

Thanks again to everyone who commented and offered their congratulations! By the way, if you're breaking open that bottle of bubbly - pass it my way :naughty:

Really cool design Jeff I can see why you won. :D
I'd love to see a gemcad file or schematic of this design and play with it in Diamcalc to see how it performs in different lighting and with different refractive indexes.

Absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations! :appl: :appl: :appl:
