Thanks musey for the pics! I''ll be interested to see if other people answer more readily now. This is all very educational....

Wow that is a stunner of a ring

Sounds like that jeweler might not be very experienced...

I wish I could see/feel it on my finger. Or at least see a hand shot! Any advice for those of us shopping online about expectations vs. reality?

Ignore that last question. I just put it on a different thread.

That ring is seriously beautiful. I think you should be talking to Excel, they have some very good reviews on here, it''s not like they are an unknown quantity.

Yeah, add me to the list of people who think your jeweler is making stuff up to get a sale.

That ring is gorgeous and I wouldn''t change a thing-I''d just get the original from Excel. Especially since someone mentioned Excel has a lifetime warranty.

Yep yep yep!

I don''t know about Excel, but some online retailers (like Pearlman''s) will, with a deposit, send you a setting with a CZ in it to try on. Worth asking.

In anutshell, he said it would be very heavy and it needs the circle enclosed under the center stone.

Honestly? Sounds like a bunch of BS to me to try and steal the sale...
Agreed! FWIW, my e-ring's from Excel Diamonds (diamond and setting). FI and I were so impressed with the quality of their workmanship that we chose to purchase our plain wedding bands from them too. We could have saved money going with another vendor, but the quality of their products made our decision a very easy one. Also, as others have noted, they offer a lifetime warranty - can't beat that, imho.

What a cool ring! I''d just got to Excel too. Why mess with something that you like the original, and you don''t know if you''ll like the replica/whatever the designer comes up with?

I''d be afraid that the "designer" would want to do his own thing instead of making the same setting.

Besides, the original is always best (IMHO). Definitely Excel.

The side view is just stunning. Putting a little brace in there would up that view.

Why exactly does your jeweller think it doesn''t work without a brace?

This is terrible, but to answer your question Addy, I forget. I think I''ve read to many of these and now I forget the reasoning... I know he thought it would be uncomfortable. He also said it would be heavy though... although now I''m wondering about that. I think he''s concerned that it (the diamond) rests only in a basket with two little pieces of metal. Sorry about my layman''s language.

Deb, if you''re wondering about the jeweler''s comments about the weight and integrity of the setting you might want to contact the folks over at Excel. I''m sure Judah or one of the other employees could give you an explanation about the safety of the setting with the diamond as well as an assessment of how heavy the ring is. I know it''s hard doing business long-distance without being able to try things on in person, but in general the vendors here seem to be very honest with clients and potential clients about these things.

Hope you are able to make a decision, and sorry that the jeweler made you question your choice. I love that setting!

Ditto, if you love the setting, get the original.

Well, all - thanks for the input. I''ll let you know what happens, but not for quite awhile I imagine. Brian''s house burnt down this weekend. It sounds surreal to say it. Everyone was fine - it was just him and his 19 - year old son and no one was in the house, although Brian went back in to try to save two cats (he only saved one). He''s moved in with me and through it all, we (he) are realizing that he is one lucky and blessed fellow and I am one lucky and blessed girl to have him. He had insurance, and plenty of friends willing to help out if needed, and a great work bunch. So... right at this moment, I''m just feeling very blessed in general and we are getting used to living with one another a little earlier than expected. Rings are not on the top of the priority list right now... but I have to admit, I came up to look, as a little escape! You all are just so supportive of people on here - it''s great! :) God Bless and enjoy the little things too!

OMG! Thank goodness he and his son are okay. (((BIG HUGS))) to all three of you.

Oh my goodness, I''m sorry to hear that, I mean I''m really glad him and his son were ok. But I''m sorry about one of his cats!
I hope everything works out and you guys do good!

Good luck!

That''s terrible. I''m very sorry that B''s house burnt down and glad that he and his son are all right.

I''m so sorry to hear that his house burnt down, but very glad that he and his son and one kitty escaped unhurt. That''s so sad that he wasn''t able to save the other kitty.

Wow, that''s not good, but I''m so glad that he and his son came out okay. I''m sorry to hear about the second kitty.

Omg I''m so sorry! Thank goodness he and his son got okay, and I''m so sorry to hear about the cat he lost. Sending best wishes

Update: Bf is doing pretty good. Lots of decisions to make and things going on.

I went into the jeweler and told him that B won''t be getting the call if he tries to call (didn''t tell B I went in - this is the last thing on his mind right now, I''m sure!) Anyway - just an ironic little note: The jeweler had said that he talked to his designer and that his designer admitted that it would be secure in that setting w/out any extra support. Just had to giggle a little!

Anyway.... seems you all were right! :)

I am sorry, but I have to say I have read most of her points, and it sounds like she is happy to honour and obey no matter what. It just gives me the general feel that the man is superior to the woman.

And I have to totally disagree with the point about periodically falling out of love with her husband, especially in the first few years.

This is not a symbol of a happy healthy relationship IMO. In almost 13 years of being with my partner, I have never fallen out of love with him, EVER. Sure i have been upset, frustrated or just plain mad, but I have never for a second stopped being in love with him. That's really sad.

ETA - Ignore this post, I am a total tool and thought I was responding to another thread.

at least it seems like your jeweler made an honest mistake =) I''m sorry about the loss of house and cat =(
