We just got engaged last night using a loose stone. I can''t afford the custom setting we were both wanted at the moment. I read on here some people recommended getting a temporary setting which we both thought was a good idea. Our hotel happens to be right across from jewelers row in philadelphia. Does anyone know of a reasonable and good jeweler to take a look at? We were just looking for a cheap solitare setting and mainly are concerned with a jeweler that won''t cause damage to her new whiteflash aca. Any help is greatly appreciated :) thanks

Syndey Rosen has quite a good reputation and has been in business for years (on Sansom Street between 7th and 8th) and Steven Singer is well known in the city (on the corner of 8th and Walnut) if you''re looking to have something set up right away. Singer, I believe, has a setter on site so you will likely be able to watch while your diamond is set if that makes you feel more comfortable. I''m afraid I can''t vouch for either as far as the quality of the craftsmenship goes, but you may want to call and speak to both before deciding.

Thanks so much! we actually ended up finding a jeweler per her dad''s recommendation that he''s been going to for a while, he walked us over after buying a setting to their setter where we watched while they set our ring. De Summa and Wexlet www.desummaandwexler.com Very reasonable, beautiful setting and very honest.

I had tried Steve Singer and it seemed like a fast food resturant. It was incredibly noisy, people yelling and talking extremely loud while being packed in shoulder to shoulder on stools infront of overcrowded jewelry cases. We could barely hear what our jeweler was saying to us. I sure as hell heard the jeweler next to us joking with his customers using profanity and inappropiate jokes in an incredibly loud volume. They were also playing games a bit.. tried to sell us a setting @ around $460 and when we told them that was above our budget as this was just a temporary setting, they asked us what our budget was then magically the setting was $160 cheaper.... I don''t play those kinds of games, I''m buying a setting for someone that means more than the world to me, I''m not buying a used car. I was also a little turned off by the tacky slogans like "Great sex stars with Steven Singer" which I saw inside on a sign... who knows they could be great jewelers, but it just wasn''t doing it for me.
