Jewels of the Smithsonian...

Oh my, this was a fantastic tour through your photos @m-2-b!! Thanks so much for sharing them. I was supposed to travel with my son on his trip to DC, but work commitments got in the way. I was so disappointed. I’m definitely going to have to plan a trip now!

Too fun! Thank you M-2-B!

How fun!!! Thanks for posting these! I can’t believe I haven’t made it there yet, but it’s definitely on my list!

What a treat!

First thought after awe:

how did one drill through diamonds in India in the 1600's !? @diagem

The holes seem small and precise & oddly rough ... (see closeup). Wondering what the necklace might have been like in its original form (asuming simple & involving pearls).

Digressing,

Thank you for the wonderful thread @m-2-b
Obviously with another Diamond @valeria101
How? I can only imagine with a lot of pain and patience..., human time was easily attained in those times, I can just imagine how long it took to execute. I wish they would give recognition to the makers.

LOVE the eye candy @mrs-b.:love::love:
Thank you for sharing the pics. I think it's time for a road trip.

@m-2-b Thank you for all the amazing pictures. You were extremely skilled to be able to take these. I didn’t know these famous diamonds were at the Smithsonian. Thanks for sharing with us. And yes, that poor hope diamond is screaming to be cleaned. o_O

Awwww... @m-2-b you are so kind to share with everyone. Thank you for taking the time to take pictures and post. What a treat and hope you enjoyed seeing those beauties. I think some of your own items should have been show cased as well since they are so gorgeous! Hope you have a great rest of the week.

@m-2-b
Your post is coming at a great time since I'm planning a trip to DC with my friend. Awesome photos!

I need to get my tush down there to see these in person. Spectacular !!!

Thank you for posting all the pics!

 Wowsers

I'm glad everyone has enjoyed looking at all the bling! It's sad to me that these jewels just sit in the museum unworn after all these years! :((

Thought I'd include some landscape views of the Washington Monument and the White House (prior to the Easter Egg Roll) while we were visiting: :))

Great pictures m-2-b! I enjoyed it a lot. :wavey:

I might have said that you need more folk more interested in how diamonds are made than in diamonds ... ,)

In a former life I was a jewelry buyer at QVC. I was given the privilege of working on the Smithsonian collaboration shows, which involved trips to the museum and behind the scenes access to archive pieces that aren’t even on display. What an honor for a true jewelry nut. The pic I just posted, there’s no glass between me and that amazing champagne necklace.

Thank you for sharing your incredible pics and the links to all the info @mrs-b! You've made my day!

You're very welcome, @DanDiAnDi!

But I think you had best thanks @m-2-b, who started this thread. :) It's very nice that you ascribe something so nice to me, tho! :)) :wavey:

(how is that gorgeous new 5 stone going??)

Haha oops sorry @mrs-b !! It's going very well thank you, I still adore it and can't believe it's mine!
