I make a fantastic (if I do say so myself) chicken chow mein that J absolutely ADORES. Normally he''s a red meat dude, but when he first tasted my stir fry, he salivated and then begged me to make s''more.

He makes yummy cheeseburgers and does a mean phone call for take away.

Hi Gwen
35.gif

Its a toss up between homemade chicken nachos and mashed potatoes, lemon chicken, and veggies (although these days just hearing the word potatoes makes me want to hurl). He also makes this cheese bread which is
18.gif
but it takes him 5 years to make it because he does the dough from scratch so he doesn''t make it often.

For him, I make the only dish I know how that actually tastes good: cajun chicken pasta LOL. Oh and a strawberry cake which he loves (out of the box of course)

I really need to learn how to cook.

He makes a mean cheeseburge with the cheese oozing and burnt on the edges, mmmm
18.gif
. But I have to say I really appreciate it when he surprises me with ordering pizza for dinner, I love me some pizza!

I should preface this by saying my FF is not really a fussy eater, so most things I make for him he loves. But I think it is a toss up between a curry chicken I make or when I grill a steak for him...he thinks it pretty sexy I can grill a steak better than a man!
2.gif

Not to toot my own horn, but I make more than one
9.gif

His favorites:
Arroz con pollo or paella
Rigatoni in an eggplant & tomato sauce
portobello mushroom burgers (meatless--hes health nuttie remember!)
chicken breast stuffed with feta and spinach and lemon (thyme & rosemary) potatoes

The tastiest thing my honey cooks for me?

He makes one hell of a mean omelet. Tasty peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich. Good coffee too!!!

I am definitely "the cook" in our relationship.

FI is so not a picky eater ... he likes everything! He loves my pasta with white sauce (typically with onions, chicken, and broccoli, or whatever else I feel like throwing in!). He also likes chili and fajitas a lot.

He''s very good at making cheeseburgers (seems like a common theme here - men who can grill!) and he likes to mix in blue cheese. He loves to make mac and cheese with broccoli and while it''s not necessarily my favorite food in the world, it is yummy and he makes it all by himself
1.gif
It''s our standard we-just-got-home-at-8:30-and-need-something-quick-for-dinner meal.

Hi all! Wow, you seem to have pretty tasty dishes! I actually do not cook very often, I usually just throw some pasta on the stove cuz its quick and easy...

But my SO loves to grill. Brats are my fav.
He also makes this nacho/corn casserole that he got from his dad... sooo yummy!!

I''m actually more of a baker than a cook. I love my baked goods

And here I can't bake to save my life, try as I might (and I have many, many times). I have all the baking equipment and none of the baking talent
20.gif

Even brownies, which are like the easiest thing to make, always come out bad...

Ooh tabu, what do you bake? I LOVE to bake!!
36.gif

J also quite likes my chicken korma and doesn''t mind the different pastas I make as long as there''s some meat in them, even though he isn''t a pasta dude (I love it!).

OH! And he makes a GREAT tuna melt! Did one for me on Sunday and it was deeeelish.
9.gif

Good topic!

My FI makes a fabulous meatloaf. I know, it''s one of those meals where you think "can any meatloaf be good, really?" but he makes a gourmet version of the good old comfort classic and I love, love, love it!

I''m the baker and by far his favorite item has to be red velvet cake with buttercream frosting. When I do cook dinner, I think he likes my red meat dishes the best - I can cook a mean steak!!

he loves my spaghetti and meatballs... my mommy''s recipe. it''s delish.

Ohhhh FF used to work at Pasta & Co. and owns 3 of their cookbooks, so you would think that he made me food from them, but no!
6.gif
LOL... He does make a fantastic pork loin with a clove/coriander(?) rub then baked in maple syrup. Holy moly. It sets off our smoke detector every time so we freeze with windows open, but it''s so worth it!!!
18.gif

I make some pretty kick ass pasta dishes, and curry chicken. That''s one of our favorite meals. Now I''m starving, thanks Gwen!!

ooooh gwendolyn! I LOOVE chicken korma! Can I beg for your recipe? please please please? I''ve tried it before with a few different recipes and it didn''t turn out so well...

anyways, back to the original question..

If i do say so myself....
2.gif

i make an awesome roast chicken (key is to rub the garlic and herbs and spices UNDER the skin, not over)
honey oatmeal whole wheat bread from scratch
and the FI regularly asks for my chocolate souffle yuuummmm

Everything he does on the grill is amazing... and his breakfasts are amazing as well, but that''s about it.

What is it about guys... they''re universally good with breakfast food!

I have to admit that it comes out better when I use a premade sauce bought from a local market that carries lots of hard-to-find Indian foods and sauces
6.gif
so I can''t share that recipe but I do have the one that J''s mom has made. I haven''t tried it yet because we don''t have a food processor and I''ve got it good with the jarred sauce
3.gif
but J''s mom is an amazing cook, so it should be fab!

CHICKEN KORMA

Serves 4-6

2 ½ lbs chicken joints, skin removed
1 inch cube of root ginger, finely grated
5 oz thick set natural yoghurt
1 small onion, coarsely chopped
3-4 dried red chillies
2-4 cloves garlic, peeled and coarsely chopped
5 tbsps cooking oil plus 2 tbsps extra oil
1 lb onions, finely sliced
1 tbsp ground coriander
½ tsp powdered black pepper
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp ground turmeric
8 fl oz warm water (reduce quantity if using boneless chicken)
3 oz creamed coconut, cut into small pieces
1 ¼ tsps salt or to taste
2 heaped tbsps ground almonds (optional)
juice of ½ lemon
sugar {optional)

1. Cut each chicken joint into half, separating leg from thigh and cut each breast
into two.
2. Mix the ginger and yoghurt, cover and leave to marinate in a cool place for 2-4 hours or in the refrigerator overnight.
3. Place the chopped onion, red chillies and garlic in a food processor and liquidise to a smooth paste, You may need to add a little water if you are using a liquidiser.
4. Heat the 5 tbsps of oil over medium heat and fry the sliced onions till they are golden brown. Remove the pan from the heat using a slotted spoon, transfer the onions to another dish. Leave any remaining oil in the pan.
5. Place the pan in which the onions have been fried, over medium heat and add the other 2 tbsps cooking oil.
6. When hot, add the ground coriander, powdered pepper, garam masala and turmeric, stir rapidly (take the pan off the heat if the oil is too hot) and add the chicken along with the marinade. Adjust the heat to medium-high and fry the chicken for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
7. Add the liquidised spices and continue to fry for 6-8 minutes on low heat.
8. Add the water and the coconut and bring to the boil, Stir until the coconut is dissolved. Add fried onions slices and salt.
9. Reduce heat to low ,cover the pan and simmer until the chicken is tender (25-30 minutes) .sprinkle the ground almonds and mix well . remove from heat and add the lemon juice and sugar if needed.

These are my BF''s specialties too! He also makes a delicious stirfry with steak. I am the main cook in the house because I get home from work a couple of hours earlier than he does... I make a mean stuffed pasta shells dish (spinach, tofu, cottage cheese...sometimes we throw in ground turkey), risotto and zucchini and eggplant au gratin-ish dish. I obviously just throw stuff together and make up a name for it!

Mmm... SO makes fantastic salmon, and yummy yummy omelettes.

He really loves my chicken tortilla soup, my baked potatoes (twice baked with chicken broccoli and cheese) and my lasagna!

We make some pretty tasty dinners, but my signature dish is bucatini all''amatraciana. His signature dish is risotto.

yummy thread!

his favorite that i make is turkey meatloaf and mashed potatoes or mac and cheese

my favorite that he makes is omlettes and breakfast burritos and bacon.

and our favorite to make together is
-fajita night...he does the meat and veggies, i make the guacamole. this is also what we have been doing every valentine''s day for 3 years now!
-potato pancakes with sour cream dill sauce and smoked salmon

Anytime!!!!

Um this might get long...

Me:
salmon and asparagus
grilled shrimp and sauteed scallops (he gets the shrimp and I get the scallops)
veggie loaded lasagna (with hot italian sausage)
chicken cordon bleu
pasta puttanesca (plus chicken or shrimp)
pasta carbonara (plus chicken or shrimp)
pasta a la Freke (various veggies and meats-basically whatever is around)
beef stroganoff
meatloaf
shrimp fra diavolo
pizza (I sneak spinach onto his half)
and a whole bunch of other stuff I pull out of my butt (aka, don''t use a recipe for)

Him:
beef tacos
baked rigatoni
chicken tacos
tequila lime chicken
cheeseburgers

Baked stuff (all me, and only his favorites):
FF''s chocolate chip cookies (I named them after him)
brown sugar cake
beer cake (spice cake-his mom''s recipe)
banana bread

And I cook 97% of the time. ...stupid culinary school...

What is your turkey meatloaf recipe? I think SO would LOVE if I made that (I don''t eat beef), and it''s hard to get turkey to taste flavorful! Please share!

well i cant cook. ive got it good ladies. he cooks for me everyday. its all pretty good. i tend to like his mistakes the best. he was trying to make shrimp scampi once and messed up somehow, but i loved it!!!

the only thing i am good at making is breakfast sandwiches. you know, eggs and bacon on an english muffin.

Ha ha. This is a fun topic, just had to jump in..
I''m a chef, so needless to say, I DO NOT let FI cook. Period. If I did, dinner would be chicken on the George Forman and a microwaved "baked" potato.

He makes an excellent chicken caserole, first meal he made for me...it was on my birthday. , I must admit that his salads ALWAYS taste the best. Don''t know if it''s how he mixes the dressing and the veggies or what, but I love his salads.

The meal he probably enjoys the most is chicken stuffed with prosciutto and gorgonzola cheese. I cook it in the oven (kept closed tight with toothpicks) and mix a buttery white wine sauce with roasted garlic, fresh basil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper, that I drizzle over the chicken.

He is a fish person, but I get queesy with any seafood, so at some point I''ll have to learn to make it for him. It wouldn''t be fair to deprive him of his favorite dish for stay at home dinners.

Oh, and all of your dishes sound delicious, ladies!
Gwendolyn, this was a great post! Thanks for putting it up there

He is a grilling master, and I want to say steaks, but the very best thing he makes is breakfast. I have never had such perfect eggs and bacon, and he does them flawlessly every time.

I make his favorite dinner, Chicken Kiev, every so often. It''s such a pain to make, but he gets a dorky happy look on his face when he cuts into it and butter squirts out. Love it.

I love trying new recipes that I think SO would like! Here''s the latest one I found. Has anyone tried making lobster mashed potatoes? Mmm... sounds tasty!

I learned early on that he can''t cook. He made us beef burritos, and it was SO awful and gross, I actually got sick later on. Now, he''s mostly only allowed to cook things without meat- like noodles.

I make a beef chow mein hot dish that is SO FLIPPING GOOD. It''s so easy to make and the left overs are even better. I also have a vodka pasta recipe that is delish .. but other than that.. I''m not sure what his favorite is.. OH NO WAIT, I do.. it''s called Mexican Pie and he begs me to make it all of the time. That one is also good reheated. It''s my moms recipe though.

Mmmmmm, these posts are all making me really hungry!! J is in the kitchen right now, making dinner for us, and guess what it is? Cheeseburgers!!!
