Hello everyone . . .

I just got great news tonight . . . JKT is finished with my Acorn ring!

Here is the Acorn thread.

"The Acorn" is from Doug at Bespoke Gems, a Madeira Citrine in his "Acorn" cut, 7.14 ct, 11mm diameter and 10.5mm depth.

I just have three pics from Julia for now . . . until the ring arrives and I take hundreds of handshots.

I''ve bought several gems since joining PS, but this is my first jewelry commission! Exciting!

wow -- can''t wait to see hand shots! it looks like the design really balances out the unique size and proportions of your stone very well, and i love the rope detail. more pics, please!

awesome!!!!

Looks fabulous! Can''t wait to see hand shots. Make you send a pic to Doug as he''d be delighted I''m sure with the results...

It looks fantastic!

Julia does such a great job!

Does look like its going to be one high sitter though! about how tall is the stone??

Wow! This is so cool. I just ordered an Acorn from Doug too, love your setting!

So cool!

Very pretty ring! I love Julia''s work!

oh i love the rope deisgn...i can''t tell from the pictures...what is the ring made of?

For some strange reason, I thought the acorn was set a while back but I am mistaken. It’s great that Julia has made the setting to accommodate the incredible depth of the stone and left the pavilion open for you to admire it.

Hi All -- it is wonderful to wake up and see all your compliments! I''m even MORE excited to see the ring now!

Thank you, Cellentani, Enbcfsobe, VelouriaL, Stepcutgirl, Cind11

HotPozzum - Thanks! I will definitely send Doug the pic, I''ll do that right now.

Arcadian - Thanks, she is a class act indeed! The stone is 10.5mm deep, but I think it looks like she did a great job of incorporating it into the metal of the setting . . . maybe that will help it not be bizarrely high. But I don''t mind . . . I''ll get used to it.

Y2kitty - Yay! You''ll have to post pics of yours when it arrives.

Sarahbear621 - Thanks! The ring is her usual Argentium Sterling. We debated this vs WG a lot . . .but she assured me it would not turn my finger green . . . if it does, I plan to get the ring dipped in either a jewelry clearcoat or a rhodium plating. BUT, I''m hoping it will not be a problem, first and foremost!

Chrono - Yes, my decision to go with JKT was solidified when she mentioned wanting to appreciate the profile . . . I was really happy that she could artistically envision something to embrace the fun spirit of the cut, instead of most jewelers who would plop it into any setting that would fit. (AKA, that horrifying "cruise ship crap" experience I had at Christmas! lol)

FPP: AMAZING! Just amazing!

Can''t wait for hand shots. Love the rope motif around the bezel and then picked up again in the band.

Dimension of the stone, please?

Had to view your ring again and saw the specifics, FPP, no need to respond with ''em!

I love your ring.

I have a 10.5 mm round peridot I want set similarly but I don''t think the pavillion would allow for it, damn it.

Whoa, that is stunning!!!! Can''t wait to see hand pics!

What a cool ring! That cut is really something!

Thanks StonieGrl, LTP, and Packrat!

You know, Stonie . . . Doug DOES have a peridot acorn in his store right now . . . ripe for this sort of ring . . .

It''s a little smaller - 8mm, and a little longer so the "acorn" aspect is a little thrown off . . . but it is there . . . hehe.

the top of that ring mesmerises me! :)

FPP, I LOVED LOVED LOVED the peridot acorn! My husband was complaining about it until he came in to see the website. What a great website, what fabulously cut stones. I also loved the smith bar tourmalines. Wow.

"AUD" this is Australian Dollars? What is the approximate exchange rate you used, FPP?

Anything else we should know about ordering from Australia? Will we get hit with nasty import taxes?

Love your ring FPP, what a fantastic and unusual stone. It is a stunner.

JKT did a very nice job on this piece.

Thanks Stonie! Yes, Doug is in Australia, just Google "australian conversion" and you''ll find any number of converters. When he sends you a PayPal bill, it automatically converts from AU to US amounts, but the converters I''ve used have been pretty accurate. Right now it seems like AU is $.92 to the US dollar. So the prices you''re seeing will be a little less. But keep in mind he''ll also add the shipping to that.

Transit time from Doug to me has been really fast (I''m in the Midwest) - during regular season it''s taken about three days, at Christmas it took about a week. Really speedy considering it has so far to go! I''m not sure about import taxes, but he can answer that for you. He''s v.friendly and willing to explain whatever you need.

Thanks TL!

Maevie - It DOES sort of have that "look into my eyes . . . you are getting veerrrrry verrrrry sleepy" quality, doesn''t it. Hehehe

Beautiful ring fiery and congratulations on your first commissoned piece.

She is currently working on my first comissioned piece that we hope will be ready Saturday as we will be in town and would love to get it from her in person as she sounds so nice and we love the work she does.

Thanks Sal -- yes, she''s v.nice, just awfully busy! I hope you''ll post pics of the finished piece . . . I noticed your design listing when I was paying for mine, I think it will be beautiful!

Thanks, FieryPP, I feel a bespoke stone in my future, I do indeed! Your ring, I just love it. Good thing I can''t see it in person, probably be tempted to try it on and RUN LIKE THE WIND!

Hey Sal, you are coming to Tucson (I live in Chandler, about 80 minutes north of Tucson): Once you cross the state line all the DOT reststops/restrooms are CLOSED, so hit the potty at the border and plan accordingly when you are in Tucson.

If you want an ''authentic'' Tucson Mexican food type lunch, try El Minuto. Pres Clinton ate there (of course, he loves all food) but it is really good. It''s sort of hole-in-the-wall-ish. The place Julia recommends is The Cup at The Hotel Congress, which is a really cool vintage hotel with good bathrooms and straight down Congress (street) to your freeway entry/exit ;-)

Safe trip, Sal!

FieryPP,

Yes she is very busy but that is great for her since people are going to her for projects which is awesome in these times. Even as busy as she is she is still so easy to work with which is great for a newbie like myself.

StonieGrl,

Thank you so much for the info and suggestions. My wife and I grew up there (her from birth to 20''s, me 12-20s) and go atleast once a year to visit our family during Christmas and thus know about how good El Minuto is
18.gif
. Julia is proceeding nicely with our project and hope to meet her at The Cup to pick it up. Saddly it will be a quick trip where I get in around midnite Friday and leave Sunday morning due to school and work ..

Wow that is an amazing cut. The setting showcases the stone very well.

Ok, I feel a little immature for saying this, but let''s not call me "Fiery PP", alright? I mean, that just sounds all burning and uncomfortable!! LOL

Thanks, Oddoneout. I sent Julia''s pics to Doug (the cutter) and he said he definitely approved - I breathed a sigh of relief!
