Hi everyone, I looked in the destination wedding files for awhile and didn''t see anything, so i hope i am not repeating...we would like our wedding to be somewhere outside of the U.S. ( no i am not even egaged yet, should be soon- but you gotta plan ahead..right ;) ? ) ,..instead of a only a beach wedding we would like somewhere with maybe some jungle as well....maybe costa rica>?? Has anyone gone there??or know any other places like that?? Any suggestions would be welcome...THANKS

bugs?

I actually have been to costa rica... and believe it or not, in the rainforest it wasnt really that buggy, to my surprise.. sometimes the huming birds wizzed past your head.. but it was awsome...... more humid that anything... it was cool because the howler monkeys are in the trees and they make this incredible sound.. it is really neat... on the beaches there are awesome little coves with high clifs and rainforest behind you... perfect...

i dont mind bugs...i just need a cool atmosphere..i love the beach..but my boyfriend would like something a little more exotic and adventurous! thanks for responding!

theres the volcano there,it is unactive i believe, thats really neat, and lake arenal..(sp) there are many many beautiful placed in costa rica... i wish you luck in locating a perfect spot if you choose costa rica..
ohh after you can treat you and your guests to a little adventure, there are places in the rainforest where you can "fly" through the canopy of the rain forest.. you get in a harness and one at a time zip through on cables... it is really fun! sometimes you are 100 feet plus in the air

Gracie,

How about Jamaica? It''s beautiful...beaches, jungle, rivers. Then, when your family leaves....honeymoon!

that is the only problem to me.....We are having a family wedding...and i mean immediate family..so like 8 people...i dont want to have the wedding some where and the honeymoon in the same place..i think it might be weird seeing faimly around..or even knowing they are there( if they come all the way to where ever they would stay for a vacation)....so i was thinking like maybe marry in belize-honeymoon in costa rica---they are relatively close to one other...anyone ever done this?? any more ideas?? THANKS YALL! love hearing from y''all

Your idea reminds me of what Mara did - married in Hawaii, and honeymooned in Tahiti or some place. I think she has threads on here that tell all about her wedding! Mara?

Hi Gracie.

I would highly reccomend Belize. I went there on vacation 2 years ago and loved it. And while its getting more and more popular with tourists, its by no means anything like super Americanized places -- Cancun, etc (nothing wrong with Cancun but there''s less local culture there and more international chains of restaurants and hotels).

I don''t know where you live, and where your family/friends would be flying from, but I flew from LA to Belize and the tickets were pretty affordable, about $430 each. If you''re on the East Coast it can be even cheaper, and there''s tons of flights direct from Miami.

Also, Belize has both beautiful beaches and beautiful inland jungles. I stayed at the beach, but took a day trip through the jungle and loved it.

Francis Ford Coppola built a house in one of the more jungle, inland areas many years ago. It became so nice and wonderful its now a small resort. It''d be perfect for a wedding! They also have another property on one of the beaches, and you can do a split trip -- half in the jungle, half at the beach -- and they can help arrange everything.

I didn''t stay at this place either, but went there for dinner one night. Very popular with celebrities. It''s a small resort and just beautiful. We had to take a little boat from the main area where we were staying to get to it. Dinner was amazing, drinks were amazing, location was amazing, etc.

What an awesome website! I am sold! absolutely gorgeous...thank you so much for your info elle :)

No problem Gracie. I''m happy to help.

I absolutely loved Belize and can''t wait to go back. My boyfriend and I went for a week after I finished the bar exam -- it was the perfect place to unwind, great food and beaches and all of that but also awesome local culture and it felt like we were across the world. Prices were very reasonable too.

One option to consider -- you could have the wedding in one part of Belize and then honeymoon in another. We stayed in the most populated, most visited area - Ambergris Caye. It''s an island near the top of Belize. There''s also the awesome and even cheaper and mellow Caye Caulker about 20 minutes way by boat.

But if you go farther south there''s another beautiful area called Placencia, which looks beautiful from all the photos and websites I''ve seen. We didn''t go there but I would like to go next time. From Belize City (the main airport you''ll fly into, no matter where you decide to go), you can take a short flight down to Placentia -- I think it was 45 minutes maybe. That way you could do the wedding with your family, they could stay in the area for their vacation, and you and your new husband can go on your honeymoon all by yourselves.

Check out this place too....we didn''t stay there but I remember walking by and there was a wedding. The rooms are all thatched bungalows and it looked really neat.

Victoria''s House is also very popular for weddings. http://www.ambergriscaye.com/victoriahouse/index.html
