GCAL

What do you guys think? I plugged the numbers into the HCA, and got 1.3, Ex Ex Ex and VG (or 1.0 score if I use % instead of °). The GCAL report looks good. My only concern now is the colour. Originally, I had aimed for D/E colour, and less clarity, maybe even down to a VS1, but at the weight I wanted, all were out of my price range. The stone will be set in platinum in BN Flora Vida Solitaire, size 4.5, so hopefully once set, the colour won't be much of an issue.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think. I read also that the colour grading is actually a range anyway. I wonder if there's a way to find out if the colour is closer to an F or closer to an H. I wish they did decimal system instead.

Thanks guys. PS has been great for my education. Just waiting for FedEx now.

I think it will be a gorgeous stone, and I would love to see the finished ring! I don't think we've seen a ring here with that setting, and it looks very pretty! I wouldn't worry about G color in an ideal/excellent cut stone. I have had 2 and I think they face up very white with no tint from the side, either. I do agree that VS1 would have been sufficiently clean, but if this was the best stone in your price range, then that is fine!

Oh how lucky that you found a stone that scored well on the HCA without even looking !
G is a Very colorless stone. Especially in a round. Don't worry for a second about that.

The numbers look great! If you really want to know if the stone is a high G or a low G, you can go to an independent appraiser. The setting looks very pretty. Please come back and post pictures when you get the ring!

I will definitely post up photos once I have the ring.

I had a budget of $5500 for the stone, so I think I did alright. The stone is Blue Nile Signature branded, so I did pay a premium for it. I did read that not all their branded stones are top notch, but seems like I might have gotten lucky.

I might also take it to an independent appraiser. Anyone you guys can recommend in Sydney Australia? Would it be hard to appraise for colour now that the stone is set?

Thanks guys.

Re: appraisal - Bill sechos at GSL is in Sydney. He has been recommended in the past by Gary holloway, and talking to other jewellery dealers in Sydney it sounds like he is the best of the best.

Nice diamond! You did well -- and THEN you checked the HCA!! wow - maybe you're a natural at selecting diamonds! tee hee! ;))

I agree - I've never seen that BN setting posted here, so please come back and share the finished ring with us - and good luck with your proposal! Congratulations!

What a lucky find - excellent stone without the assistance of PS gurus. ::) I'm most impressed, and very much looking forward to seeing final photos.
