10+ higher is better.
A lot depends on the table size and total depth.
13 is ok
 
A local jeweler has an asscher that is 60% depth and 60% table. Is it worth taking a look at or will it be "dead" looking as far as the steps because of the shallow depth?? thoughts?

it can be good.
Need to check CH and patterns but an asscher can be kicken down to 50% depth or so, not that anyone would ever cut one.
