I would love if you had a thread, maybe a sticky, where you could show some of your photo techniques and equipment, and where we could ask questions of the Master

We (my husband and I) had the Canon ti4 on back order for a while, but it finally came in and we've had it about 2 weeks (were waiting for the package that had the body and the with 18-135mm EF-S IS STM Lens). Already bought a telephoto lens (we like to spot and shoot (with camera) birds. Next lens will be macro. Don't know which one yet.

I'm waiting for a Nikon D800E, but I'm not sure I'll keep it since it's so costly.
I'll test it and compare it to my D7000 and decide whether to return it.

Since you've only had your Canon ti4 two weeks you may still be in the return period.
Find out whether it will work when you put extension rings or a bellows between the lens and the body.
Do this at a camera store since people on the phone or Internet may be wrong about this rarely-used configuration.
I'd guess not, since with Nikon you have to spend way over $1,000 for such a body. - but I'm not a Canon guy so I may be mistaken.

A true macro lens means 1:1, which means if you take a pic of a penny the size of the image of the penny on the camera's sensor will be the same size as the penny itself, unfortunately that won't even fill up the frame.
Diamonds are much smaller than pennies (at least the diamonds I can afford) so if you want to take pics of diamonds that are super sharp and clear you need much more enlargement than even the best true macro lens can give you.

The idea is to use ALL the pixels you paid for.
For diamonds even a $1050 true Canon macro lens does not provide enough magnification.
To get eye-popping clarity, sharpness and resolution you have to magnify the diamond much more BEFORE you take the picture by using gadgets that move the lens away from the camera body, like bellows and extension rings.
This way you use more of the pixels you paid for in your camera body.
I'm a Nikon guy and while Nikon camera bodies start at $650, only Nikon's bodies costing $1,200 and up work with those gadgets between the lens and the body.

If you like my pics and think they are unique, it's because I have a bellows that moves the macro lens up to 10 inches away from the body.
Many people have macro lenses but few have a bellows.

If your hubby is serious about high magnification macro work return the Canon ti4 body if it cannot work with extension rings, bellows and lens reversing rings between the body and the lens, and buy a body that can.
I have no idea which Canon bodies does what since I'm a Nikon guy.
