Hi! I am new to PriceScope-- I have read but never posted. I am trying to get a reasonably priced knife edge platinum wedding band to go with my e-ring. I asked our original jeweler who designed my e-ring setting how much it would cost, and she was a total flake about it and wanted $900 (MORE THAN TIFFANY for gosh sake). I would just go with the Tiffany in that case, because their work is beautiful and quality, but their knife edge is too sharp-- "knifey" at the top-- it comes to too much of a point if that makes sense. My knife edge e-ring rounds at the top. So I am checking out a few alternatives... Danforth has two that are extremely reasonably priced, one is a knife edge, the other is a "tapered" knife edge. I don't know what this means! Does anyone own either of these bands? I need pics! I am leaning towards tapered, because I think that means that it rounds at the top, but does anyone have them to show?

My e-ring is below-- it is knife edge but kind of rounded... see...

Why not ask the online sales chat? Looks like one is a sharper version and the other is a softer knife edge.

ANother consideration, not sure if you've visited e-weddingbands.com: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/knife-platinum.html

For engagement rings, tapered means that the shank/band gets narrower towards the head where the stone is set. I've not heard of a wedding band that tapers...that makes me think that the band has a 'top' and a 'bottom' and if the band spins, you'll be adjusting it all the time.

And yes, your jeweller is ripping you off at $900 for a simple plat band! Buy online for the best deal. :)

I didn't think $900 sounded like too much, but given the fact they made your setting you would think they could give you a better deal. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Seems like since they made it, it might be hard to find one to match it exact.

I recently ordered two knife edge bands. I got one from James Allen and one from Danforth. In one of the descriptions, it says the tapered is smaller at the bottom I think, even though I couldn't find that in your link. There are also some other pictures of it in another view. I'll try to look when I'm on my computer later.

The one I got from James Allen was very pretty, but it was too small and they wanted $100 to resize it so I sent it back. The one from Danforth was not very nicely polished and the rhodium plating seemed uneven to me. My er is a knife edge band and the BGD wanted $700 for the matching band. For me, right now, that is more than I wanted to spend. Right now I'm wearing a silver 2mm dome band and it is fine for the time.

E-weddingbands.com quoted me around $215 for a 2mm 14k wg band, so you might check with them. The problem was that it was going to be a custom band so not returnable and I'd already had so many issues with bands I wasn't willing to take a risk at that time.

$900 seems expensive to me. If you look online I would think you would find something in the $400-$700 range.
