Just wondering who has picked out rings for their guys (with the guy or not) and want to share what they look like?

SO is too darn picky. He''s mentioned he wants titanium but I''ve no idea as to the specifics. I know it will be something VERY understated. Maybe a brushed metal sort of look?

Mine picked this out of a Ritani book I had at the house...

Apparently I am not the only one who has expensive taste

Its called the warrior ring. It is a copy of the pattern on the rim of the Chalice of Ardagh, which is a truely chalice from 8th century Ireland. He wanted something distinct but not feminine. Plus, we got engaged in Ireland, so it really is perfect.

I was thinking something like this (he said he would like the 2-tone look):

But then he shocked me by saying he might want a small diamond in the band! He gets 2 anyway, a silver or titanium to wear at work (labor intensive) then the "real" everyday one.

My DF wants a diamond or diamonds plural! in his band too!

At first I was pretty surprised about that, but considering the ring he designed himself for me I shouldn''t have been! I guess he''s come to love diamonds.

jcarlylew, where''d you find that second ring? I think my FI might be interested in that.

This is the one he likes best so far.

His ring picked out yet? Uh, no. Let''s worry about getting one on my finger first, and then we''ll worry about his.

Just kidding. Sort of.

A while back he did mention that he''d like a titanium ring, so we stopped at a store while we were at the mall, just for curiosity''s sake. The sales person did show us a few and then mentioned that titanium cannot be sized. At all. And then proceded to tell us that a titanium ring cannot be cut off in case of an emergency. Think about it. If a ring cannot be cut off an injured finger for medical treatment, then guess what must be cut off instead?

He likes having all 10 fingers in tact and has a healthy, renewed interest in platinum or white gold.

That''s actually not true Snickerdoodle, there are different grades of titanium, I think it''s airplane grade that cannot be cut off easily. And they can''t be sized down. I''m not surprised that they told you that though because unless they''ve done lots of research, that''s the (incorrect) word/rumor on the street. Regardless, I''ve hade some Titanium tennis rackets that have met their end by my hand and I think they would disagree with that sales person.

Here is a link: click!

Or this one: click!

Honestly I''m not surprised that this was at a mall store. We''ve all heard about their diamond *issues*.

They really should train their staff better.

My God, Freke, just what did you do to those tennis rackets?!

Anyway, thanks for correcting the misinfomation I was given. And that''s why I hang out here--you ladies are so smart!

My SO is an electrician, so rings are a no-no, plus he hates wearing any jewlery, watches included. Luckily, we're both major tattoo people. He has two full sleeves, I have a half sleeve, so I'm thinking tattoos of our wedding date around our ring fingers in lieu of actual rings might be cool and very "us". I haven't really talked to him about it since we're not even engaged yet, but I think he'd be more for that than rings and I wouldn't feel right without him wearing something to symbolize the marriage.

aloros - it's a david yurman ring, which i found online at neimanmarcus.com. unfortunately it only comes in size 11? my man is a string bean so it would never fit

Snickerdoodle - sorry, mini thred jack here. My old job (catering company) we sold snickerdoodles. our owner loved that word, and would always call it a "snicker-doodie-hoodie". ah, snickerdoodle, fun word! anyways, i agree with Freke. It doe suck that most cannot be sized, but good jewelry stores will have an "free sizing" policy for titianium rings which would mean that you could exchange the size. my bestf is getting her husband a new (smaller) one since he's lost a lot of weight since they got married, but will keep the old one just in case he grows a sympathy belly ;)

cool ideas everyone!

ooo and i would be FLOORED if my boyf wanted a diamond. becuase he's still a bit miffed that i accidently turned one of his shirts pink

Just be sure to tell him frequently how sexy he is when he wears pink!

one word of caution about titanium. it "tarnishes" like HELL, and can get scratched up very easily! DH had to replace his ring last month because he'd lost some weight and couldn't be sized- it actually slipped right off while we were on the dance floor at a friend's wedding.

Anyway, i was kinda relived that it had to be replaced because quite frankly, it looked like crap. And it's not the only titanium ring i've seen that happen to. Note that his had a brushed finish.

He now had a tungsten ring which looks FABULOUS. both rings came from eweddingbands.com: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/index.html

I second Tungsten (same issue with sizing though...although I believe it can be sized up a bit). TGuy''s ring still looks brand new. Plus he loves the heft of it.

Tungsten is HEAVY. I asked to see one at a local jewelry store-not even a really heavy made ring, and it was like being given a chunk of lead. It''s so weird to be given something that doesn''t look like it''ll be that heavy, and it''s about 5 times as heavy as you''d think it would be. I don''t think BF would go for that. He''s going to want something light and or weightless. I''m thinking maybe palladium, and if he decides that he doesn''t want a ring (he''s terrified of having to get something cut off) then he can keep it for special occasions and get one tattooed on. He''s the one who came up with that idea, not me!

So maybe 3-4mm palladium or 14kt white gold brushed band. That''s what I''m guessing he''ll pick.

FI really really likes this one, but wants each little pair of stones to be one diamond and one sapphire (my birthstone is diamond, his is sapphire).

Ooooh - this is a good one! You don't see men's rings on here very often.....

I was thinking of giving him a Mokume Gane ring (it's the metal technique they used to use to make Japanese swords.)

This one is made of Damascus stainless steel.... I really like how different it is.....

.....this one is white gold and platinum enhanced stainless steel.....

My boyf loves heavy metal, but i kind of refuse to get him a skull and cross bones wedding band lol. he can have them as cuff links!

Not sure if "jcarlylew" was talking about the Mokume Gane rings or the other ones on here? (I really like the cable ones at the beginning of the post too.....)

If it was for the ones I posted, I found them on this site (http://www.andrewnycedesigns.com/) but there are of course other jewellers who make pieces using that technique (big variation in quality from what I''ve seen though). I like the Damascus steel because of the PRICE compared to platinum and gold in Mokune Gane ($800 versus a few thousand for gold or plat).

My fiance picked out this artcarved "camden" band himself. He also picked out the band designed by brad pitt. This one was much more feasible.

yes i do

i love the idea of this ring as a wedding band!!

jcarlylew: You have very good taste I also love that David Yurman ring! When I showed it to my BF he bought it as his right hand ring the next week along with a Yurman promise ring for me!

I will warn you though, it would probably not make a good wedding band. My bf is pretty gentle on his jewelry, and even though he doesn''t wear it daily it is scuffed and dinked all over!

thanks for the heads up! I have a feeling we wont go with DY just becuase of the ring sizing
7.gif
but hopefully i can get his custom made to look like it (with a few changes.)

I blame my parents for liking DY - my dad buys my mom a piece twice a year *sigh*. plus, after going to the BVI and spending 2 weeks on a sailboat, you tend to start liking the rope designs.

Yay I like this thread. These are the two I''m thinking. The first is what I would really like for him but he likes the second better:
