Ladies with more than 1 e-ring: Do you insure them all?

If you have a home safe that is bolted into the cement foundation and also a high quality home security alarm (that also is linked to your smoke detectors and water sensors) then those two things will help bring down your insurance premiums for both your stand alone jewelry items and your general home insurance too.

For short-term insurance of high value items (jewelry, art, etc.) I highly recommend the company Ship & Insure. I won't ship any of my jewelry, or wear my medium-priced pieces while traveling (the ones I do not have insured with JM), without insuring through Ship & Insure. You tell them the duration of time you want the item insured and the cash value and its a very straight forward process. They also are very helpful in tracking down a lost item because they have direct connections with the head honchos at FedEx, UPS, DSL, US Customs, etc. and they know all the specific ins & outs with getting items through various international customs.

This is great info. Thanks for sharing.

@RunningwithScissors I have both of those things (safe built into concrete foundation, high-quality alarm system) and my premiums are still gigantic! ;( I think it has to do with where I live -- everything costs so much more here, plus we have rampant home burglaries and home invasions. Sigh.

I've never heard of Ship & Insure but that sounds like a great solution for covering stones while they're being set....thank you so much for mentioning it!!

I've never used Ship & Insure specifically for when a stone is being set, so you'll want to double check with them to make sure they'll cover it while at a bench. My guess is they will, but just make sure first!

That's so scary Kristy. Glad you've got that safe!! Your collection is beautiful, losing something would be so heartbreaking ;(

At one of my houses crime in the area is negative. The absolute worst thing that happens is some graffiti - and last time the kids were caught and soundly told off, in public!! The other place, though, much bigger city, we don't know all the neighbours, etc. I don't even bring the bling home there, outside of whatever I'm wearing - it just goes straight to the bank. We do have a safe there too, but sometimes I feel like that's as much a target as it is a deterrent :???:

I don't buy ANY insurance that's not required by law or my mortgage bank.

Why?
I see insurance as gambling.
With gambling the odds are always with the house. :(sad
Instead of buying insurance, and things like extended warranties, I put the money (I would have paid on premiums) into the bank.

Is there a risk?
Sure, but self-insuring for 50 years means I have a nice bank balance I've saved up.
If I ever do have a loss I can cover it.
It's nice to keep all that money instead of giving it to companies that exploit and fan our fears.
It gives me peace of mind, the reason most people buy insurance.
