Largest size of stones for 5 stone ring

I am currently considering again my #ringgoal of a very blingy 5 stone. Unfortunately I live in the area where is no possibility to go and try any large 5 stone rings, so I have to plan this project remotedly.

Now, the question I have - what is the largest size of the stones (rounds) that I could safely pull off without the stones poking the adjusting fingers, as I am really sensitive to this. Which setting would be the best in order to provide maximum comfort and avoid poking?

I have looked through 5 stone thread and my gut feeling is that girls with my ring size seem to stay below .4 stones (except for @Phoenix, who chose a super blingy .5 version despite having even smaller fingers than mine :) ). I would love to hear opinions of the 5 stone ring wearers - how big would you go if you would do it again? Which setting would you choose

I would love to hear your insights!!! thank you

The answer depends on your ring size.

Hi, you might wish to consider a more “flat top” style ie the end diamonds elevated up to make the top of the ring more flat rather than curved if you wish to avoid diamonds digging into the sides of your other fingers.
I’d get two toothpicks and stick one either side of the finger you intend to wear the ring on and measure the distance.
That measurement divided by 5 will give you the approx mm each diamond can be to fit across.

That is an interesting idea - I will try this. I already thought about something similar but was not sure how this would relate to actual diamond size, considering that diamonds curve around the finger and are set slightly higher in the setting

Alternatively just use a piece of sticky tape around the finger and use a black marker to put a line where you want the diamond section to end, and cut the piece of sticky tape off your finger (cut underneath your finger) and again measure the distance.
Obviously larger size diamonds sit higher on your finger but if you want the diamonds not to touch your other fingers you’ll probably have to flatten the top to keep the sides smooth.

If I were to do a 5-stone, I'd go to directly to BGD and request they craft a band similar to the blingy/sleek/comfortable 5-stone they built for Julie_SD ... I adore everything about her band!

Oh, what a lovely setting! It looks super comfortable too! I wonder whether @Julia_SD could post more photos of profile (pretty please :) )

Possibly any of the 5 stone ring owners with smaller fingers (below 5.5 or so) could chime in whether they are happy with their chosen caratage of 5stone rings and whether their are comfortable to wear. I would love to hear your input!!!

She has not been on since 2013...but you never know!

I'm not sure if you've decided on a vendor yet but you could contact IDJ, wF BGD etc and ask if they have something in stock to send you to try if they hold your credit card or something like that.

Oh, I should have stated that I am 5.25
IMO, .30ct per stone will be plenty big on your finger. The 2 end stones will be spilling over to the side...

Here is a 1.27 ctw on a 4.75 size finger.1.15ct.JPG

I wanted to thank everyone who discussed in this thread. I was considering different sizes but in the end came to the conclusion that bigger is not necessarily the better for me right now, as I wanted the ring that would be comfortable for a daily wear.

Inspired by the ring of @Dancing Fire ‘s wife, I purchased a band just above 1 ctw in a custom setting and could not be happier.

It's lovely!!!!! Which vendor did you end up working with?

Okay, here's MissGotRocks with her 2 ctw Memoire band, so 40 pointers. Needs to be a low setting to work.

She tried a 1.5 ctw first:

I love my five stone ring and it is super comfortable! 5 .40 stones for a 2 carat total weight. As DS said, it is made by Memoire and is very low set but that doesn't negate the bling factor. If it were set up higher, I am sure it would have poked my adjacent fingers making it far more uncomfortable. If that had been the case, I know in my heart that I wouldn't have worn it every day like I do.

Hi @PintoBean
I ended going custom locally in Europe. The hassle of ordering overseas while being unable to try various sizes was too much for me. I got 1.15 ctw of G-VS1 well cut stones. I actually idealscoped every one of them before we chose them for the ring ;)

Hello! I have a 5 stone band with 0.4ct each on a size 4.25 ring, which is on the 5 stone thread in addition to all the other beautiful bands posted on there.

After owning the ring for a few years, I've never experienced DSS with the 0.4cts. I've grown comfortable with the size but in the beginning it almost felt like too much! If I were to do it again for my ring size, I would gladly stick with 0.4ct or would even consider going a tad bit smaller. I personally couldn't go bigger. In the end it's your decision so good luck and have fun!

Your ring is adorable!!! I can only imagine what kind of bling it throws ;)2

For me, however, I wanted to have a piece of jewelry that I could wear daily and not feel conscious. I can totally see myself longing for something with more voltage in 10 years or so, but for now I could not pull it off in my current professional environment without being obnoxious
