From Brad's Description:
Kornerupine is a classic gem species - fine examples have been coming from Sri Lanka for centuries. The vast majority of these are a deep brownish-green, a shade that approaches an 'evergreen' appearance. Additionally, there are some Sri Lankan stones that are a bit scarcer - these are plesantly light toned gems with a golden yellow bodycolor. And finally, one of the rarest varieties of this gem material was found several years ago in Tanzania - these gems are a vibrant bluish-green with strong purplish-lilac pleochroism. This last variety is certainly one of the most distinctive looking gem materials of the last decade. This auction features one of these exceptionally colored gems in a fine, full round brilliant. Superb colors and of a respectable size for the find - anything over 1/4 ct. was fairly scarce.
