Green/Lilac Dichroic KORNERUPINE - Tanzania .27cts

From Brad's Description:

Kornerupine is a classic gem species - fine examples have been coming from Sri Lanka for centuries. The vast majority of these are a deep brownish-green, a shade that approaches an 'evergreen' appearance. Additionally, there are some Sri Lankan stones that are a bit scarcer - these are plesantly light toned gems with a golden yellow bodycolor. And finally, one of the rarest varieties of this gem material was found several years ago in Tanzania - these gems are a vibrant bluish-green with strong purplish-lilac pleochroism. This last variety is certainly one of the most distinctive looking gem materials of the last decade. This auction features one of these exceptionally colored gems in a fine, full round brilliant. Superb colors and of a respectable size for the find - anything over 1/4 ct. was fairly scarce.

Neat color combo on that stone :-)

Thanks, that is what I liked too! I was a little concerned about the inclusion that I see, but since this will be simply a collection piece and not a setting piece, I decided to just "go with it" and see what it looks like in person.

Hey, RParker, nice to see you again! :wavey: Lovely stone.

I really like the mix of colors in that stone. Very interesting to the eye. I don't even mind the inclusions. Good for you for picking it up.

I too like the mix of colors. Beautiful and well cut. Congrats!

Have you received yet?

I have not received yet. It will be a while before I can post any decent photo's as I'm mid pack to move our stuff into storage for a year or so. Thanks everyone for the compliments ;) Can't wait to receive the little beauty.

I've heard the name but know nothing about this type of stone. It's very pretty.

Received my little guy today...he was very beautiful and flashy. You could just ever so make out the blueish/purplish colors on the edge of the stone. I'll try and post a photo in a moment.

I guess you can no longer copy and paste images into the typing box?

It isn't nearly as dark as the photo show. Photo's taken at night, with incandescent and flash using my Samsung Galaxy S 3.

It's more like a lightly saturated ocean blue...IMO anyway...

You'll need more light and better macro to get a decent picture. From past experience, I know Brad's photography is very close to the real stone so I'll bet it's much nicer than shown.

Does it have a certain metallic quality to it, or is that due to the dark photo?

The color is exactly like Brad's photo.

I'm down to the wire in days left to pack, so unfortunately a macro shot will have to wait a while....a very long while....

it's overcast and windy here today, but I'll try to get a daylight shot with my GS3.

Here are some fast shots with my Coolpix....

Sorry the stone is fingerprinted/dirty....

Hope the photo's aren't too big.....

It's true I've received a couple of stones from him. The pair of rubies I most recently got were small but they have serious presence.

Thanks Greg S. I still can't get accurate pictures, but I do really like this little bauble.
