FG - Is that your key lime or just a pic off the internet?

No making converts with false advertisement!

Not mine.
9.gif
You can''t get a pie like that with a frozen storebought crust.
3.gif
But I''ll take Heather just the same!!! Mine might not look as pretty but it tastes mmm mmm good! Especially my key lime cheesecake. Oh, heaven.

I hear alot of talk but no action FG...put your money where your mouth is!!

Heather, I hope you aren''t completely lost by FG''s misleadings. You can only persuade with true made from scratch pie or it just isn''t the same.

Oh its been brought!

Hehe, we should have a national PS bake off! Irina and Leonid could be the judges.

I''ll tell you a secret FG, I don''t think I could choose a favorite pie, and if I had to, it would be chocolate! Maybe I will make that next weekend
31.gif

Would some of you other pie loving ladies help me out please? If you want to do a Graham Cracker crust how much melted butter in cup measures do you need per measure of crushed cracker crumbs? TIA

Hubby prefers GC crust to pastry for his lemon pie.

That's one beautiful pie, iluvsparkles! I am wondering whether to add the crust and filling recipes to my cache! My mother had some interesting pie crust recipes up her sleeve (as well as making good regular crusts). I remember, especially, a cream cheese crust and a coconut crust.

I have always been too lazy to make an entire pie (or quiche) from scratch. I have either made the crust from scratch and filled it with something ready to go or have used a good frozen crust (Oronoque Orchards) and made a homemade filling.

My grandmother, who was an even better cook than my mother, used to make many beautiful ethnic pastries and wondrful cakes. She routinely made noodles, cutting the dough on a big board and adding them to a pot of boiling water or soup. She also made the favorite of all of us: a ravioli-like pasta filled with cabbage, prunes, pot cheese, or mashed potatoes and served with hot butter. (She would make all four varieties at once.) No calories there, right?

I have to throw a huge spanner in the works here. Although lemon pie is the BEST EVER PIE ( despite what the kiwi eaters say) I have a recipe for a Banoffee meringue pie with caramel sauce that I am itching to try! The only problem is I need Dulche La Leche sauce which I can''t get here. This pie looks mighty wonderful, no competition for lemon mind you, but worth a try.

Thanks for all the compliments girls! I think I may just have a little midmorning slice

Mine has: 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, 1/3 cup butter or margarine (melted) , and 1/4 cup granulated sugar.

But you can only use this to make key lime, not lemon pie.

Oh darn! It won''t work for LEMON???

Thanks FG!

Ilovesparkles, you are amazing, the last pic you posted of the piece of pie with the lemon twist made me drool!

I think it''s so cool you''ve learned how to make pies from your mom. I never was interested in cooking while growing up, but my mom always made fabulous pies for my father (when she wanted something, lol!) His favorite was coconut cream with meringue topping sprinkled with coconut. Yum, it was so good. Oh, she also made banana cream pies that were to die for, IMO.

I''m going to make a confession here...I have never made a pie. Never even learned to make one or tried to attempt it. This is a confession because my family owns a 24 hour diner/truckstop in southern IN and they make fresh homemade pies every day...people travel hours to go there for pies and milkshakes and country fried steaks or chicken. My grandmother on my dad''s side and my aunt are the primary pie-makers and have been for years and years. Chocolate cream, banana cream, coconut cream, fruit pies, custard pies, all the southern favorites. When I go home to visit I always have to go in for a piece of banana or coconut cream. On holidays my grandma always brings 3 beautiful lattice-topped apple pies--two for everyone, one whole one just for my dad, lol!

My absolute favorite pie is key-lime, though. I even love a good key-lime martini, complete with graham cracker crumbs around the rim. I only ever order it from restaurants in Florida when I''ve vacationed there, and I always ask if they use real key limes, ha ha! Can''t have any "mixes," ya know?

Anyway, I just wanted you to know I''ve been inspired by this thread. When we get our oven fixed or buy a new one I will definitely have to make a pie...it will please my family to no end. Oh, I guess I''ll need a rolling pin, too!

I *heart* Monarch. For more reasons than just the key lime thing (but don''t get me wrong, it helps).

Thanks monarch! My mom and I have always made atleast 4 pies for every THanksgiving so it is a tradition here. I love baking and cooking and when I have time play around a bit. Its just so much fun to create delicious things! Right now I am wishing I lived in IN though so I could get some good food! I have to say I love almost any pie! You are making me think of fresh cherry pie with vanilla ice cream now!
18.gif
The lemon twist I picked up from a friend of mine who is a chef. Worked with her for 4 years almost and learned tiny little things like that just really add to the presentation. And she is getting married in 2 weeks

Lucky gal! I think this should be the official pie posting thread and people need to post pictures whenever they make one!

FG, I *heart* you too! That was so sweet!

Ilovesparkles, I LOVE cherry pie too! BBL.,...DH and I are going hot-tubbing now...I''ll be back to this thread to learn more about pie-making, though--great idea!

Oh I love it! THe Pricescope pie instruction thread! Hehe. Ok I will admit this ridiculous mistake I made with the lemon pie. Ass some of yoiu may have remembered this is the first time I made the crust without my mom. Well.... dunce cap please..... The recipe is from a "wholesome" cook book. And so it calls for x cups each wholewheat and white flour. My smart self just reads X cups and puts in half the flour. So I am mixing the crust together thinking its awfully easy and kinda weird I don''t need that much water. But chalk it up to the heat and think the butter must just be melting really fast. Well my mom comes home and looks at the proportions I pposted for the crust on here and tells me what I did. OOPS. Ok so now between the straining my lemon juice through a cheerse grater and then a tea ball and now not being able to read a recipe (although itt still turned out darned good!) I may be well on my way to earning the official PS dork of the forums label!

hey that pie looked darn good girl....a few recipe mishaps are no biggie, as long as the END RESULT is good...hehee...

recently i made tiramisu for a party... it is kind of a specialty of mine and i make it like once a year, well i totally could not get the egg whites stiff enough this time...and so the end result was not as solid of a dish as i was used to, i was pretty bummed, but we put it into ice cream glasses instead of serving it on plates and it worked out okay. i''m going to get a copper mixing bowl for next time and try it again. but it still TASTED good. hehe.

I love copper bowls - they look so gorgeous. My dad collects them. I don''t own one yet.

Instead of pies and cheesecakes and all that, in the summer I love to make a key lime parfait. I got the recipe off Gourmet or something but I subbed the heavy whipping cream with light coolwhip, the sweetened condensed milk with sweetened condensed skim milk to lighten it up...it''s so fab and cool and refreshing in the summer - and light. Yummy. Hmmm....
18.gif

FG - that sounds just divine! DOn''t suppose you would want to post that recipe
31.gif
Pretty pretty please

Ya ha ha, Ilovesparkles! You are not the PS dork at all...you''re just a LIW who''s trying her darndest to make a great pie!!! I have called my mother so many times when cooking the simplest recipes, and she cracks up every time. Like sometimes I can''t even figure out how to boil an egg or remember how long pasta takes to become al dente! That''s what friends/moms are for though, to lean on in times like these when you''re trying out something. PS is good for everything from diamond knowledge to pie-making! I only wish I were able to help you out with the pie-making thing, lol!!!
