Hi all,

I currently have a halo e ring with a .71 centre stone and a plain band. The stone is triple excellent (hearts and arrows) and colour G. I have a very narrow finger so I have really good coverage with it- people often comment that it looks like a rock! Which is nice considering it is far from it! I would love to get it reset in a leon mege setting (811 with fishtail pave)- I poured all our budget into the stone when we got engaged. Does Leon work with stones this small? I love my ring but the side profile is very clunky and would love something more delicate. Or does Leon do 'upgrades' as such i.e. I could trade in my stone for something larger. It's a big decision for me as I'd be doing it without meeting Leon (I'm based in Europe).

This is the exact setting I'm looking at:

I've attached a pic of my current ring- I think the centre stone looks larger than it's .71 carat so perhaps it is large enough for the leon setting?? While I'd love a larger stone I kind of like the idea of keeping the stone for sentimental reasons- upgrades are not the norm where I'm from so I kind of feel bad for even considering it!

Thanks for your advice ladies.

I hope someone answers because I might eventually want to do the same thing. My er stone is .79 and I'm not sure if I want to eventually reset it or upgrade it or both, and I love LM settings. I have no idea if he accepts trade ins, or works with smaller stones...

I think he would make you a ring but I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to spend $4000 - $5000 for just the setting.

It's a lot for setting only. I just spoke with a jeweller in antwerp (highly regarded) who would only charge 3,000euro to upgrade to a .92 carat triple excellent in this setting (his version). He custom made a ring for my friend that is to die for. I think I will go down this route.

Why don't you email Leon for an estimate just to see? The price differential may not be as big as you think. I am working with him now on a project and he is definitely not a snob about things like stone size, so don't worry about that. If you tell him it's important for you to use this particular stone he will respect that. The size may actually work to your advantage slightly because smaller stone size = less materials and less melee to set, so price may be a bit lower than you are expecting.

It's a pity the euro-dollar exchange rate isn't as favourable as it was. Thanks for the advice. I emailed Leon yesterday and he is more reasonable than I thought. The antwerp jeweller could upgrade my diamond too for pretty much the same price, although I would need to see some images of his versions. I also need to decide whether I want to 'upgrade' the stone or not
