I think my post might have been confusing because it's not written well. The pink modifier in my avatar is the pink that I see during a certain time of day, or in fluorescent lights at my work office. Overall, the stone can often look like this in those conditions, or neutral red, which I have not captured in a nicely focused and staged picture. The color comes out best when the stone is blurry. It can also shift to a weak orange modifier inside in my house, but never enough to be mistaken for anything but red. In pictures, I can get it to look like VLs pics.userangl28212003|1423180541|3828026 said:pregcurious|1423165960|3827901 said:I can vouch for red spinels looking far more orange in pictures. I've used a Nikon, Canon, and iPhone, and it happens with all 3. Even when creating a video of my red spinel, I can see in real time that my iPhone adds an orange modifier. That's why in my avatar my hand looks so pink...it's only with certain outdoor light, which makes my hand look very pink on my iPhone, that my red spinel actually appears red on my iPhone!VapidLapid|1423165355|3827894 said:There is no brown anywhere. the center stone is quite nearly pure red. Occasionally a strongly lit facet will flash a light red or dark pink. The side stones from two years ago are quite red with a weak orangy modifier that the camera picks up far more than the eye in real life.
Indoors, my spinel will have a very weak orange modifier. Otherwise, it is red. Really. It is incredibly difficult to capture the real color.
I here you. The pictures of my burmese spinel in my posts kept coming out more pinkish than you see in real life, and not the real red I see in person .
I wish I knew how to adjust the white balance on my iPhone as it's now the only camera I use.
What camera do you use that makes your stone look pink? That is preferable to orange
