Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

I may have posted this before, but who cares, that spess currently on Gene’s website inspired me.

I wanted a round spess so badly, but couldn't find one with all the right specs. Lucky you! I have a precision oval, and it will have to do. BUT, now I really want an asscher thanks to @LC2016! Beautiful, Avondale!!

YELLOW is up!

Rare milky yellow sapphire, 1.68ct. Here in low yellow light, in good daylight the color pop's up to a neon glowing greenish-yellow.

Oh wow, that is so interesting! Why am I getting champagne vibes? Like, it looks effervescent. lol

GREEN, anyone?

I'll take blue this round, although it's sort of a stupid example. I was looking for some accent stones to pair with the 4.58ct. orangey-pink spinel, and came across these perwinkle Yogo Gulch sapphire melee (2mm). They were, IMO, really expensive for what they are (20 stones @ $68/stone). But I guess it's uncommon for Montana sapphires to be untreated and the Yogo variety is somewhat rare.

I'm going to do an inner halo of these guys and then an outer halo of chunky diamonds. What do we think of this unusual color combo?

PURPLE/VIOLET is next!

I love them! I would like to just roll them around - they look so sparkly1

They are SO sparkly! I assume it's because of the lighter tone. The seller also said they have their melee precision cut. I originally wanted deep blue sapphires, but I thought this would be a nice alternative. Glad you like!

We like it!

A combo of the two, I believe. I have a ring with an outer halo of light blue sapphire melee, and in the sun they rival the baby diamonds next to them.

Yay! It's funny you should mention that, because I was thinking they're going to hold their own against the diamond border.

When I made this thread, it was because I've been preoccupied with rainbows and color since I was leeettle. Surely that led to my love of gems. So my "list" consists of two varying shades of each color stone I could think of (like the extended color wheel... red, orangey-red, orange, orangey-yellow, etc.). Anyway, one gem I want to set with just diamonds (in this instance, my pad), where it can be the star, and the other (in this instance, the spinel) I want to contrast with another color. Yes, I'm an obsessive-compulsive.

I guess I also have a thing about completeness. lol

P.S. Please show the ring in question, Avondale!

Such a lovely color and they'll contrast great with the spinel.
A 1+ct Yogo sapphire is a bucket list item for me. But this size is considered very large, and can cost 10-25k. I mean look at this cobalt blue color... can I just have one of these sapphires pretty please?

I remember being fascinated with the natural harmony that comes from the colors of the rainbow. It is interesting how intuitively 'correct' and magical it looks when you are a kid, too young to grasp any logic of color theory/wheel.
My older brother had the Pink Floyd CD for Prism, I remember being fascinated with the cover art.

Sure! Here it is in all its glory (guess we're doing blue twice in a row  ). Got it from NutellaKitty.

This is the design I'm doing for the spinel ring! Great minds and all that!! It's positively gorgeous. I'm sort of reversing the CS and diamonds though. Didn't want to, but had a tough time finding the former in large enough rounds that were all matched and in a sufficient number.

This is the inspo pic I've had saved forever... it can count as our purple this round. lol

Yes! I read that even a half carat is considered large and can cost upwards of $20k/carat. But that's the extra fine color like the ones you showed (wow, BTW). I can't wait to see what you end up with when you check that one off your list. I guess the Yogo material is never treated because heat weakens the color rather than improving it... how contrary of her!

I like this explanation... it IS indeed harmonious, as well as archetypal. And we tend to learn color and shapes first as littles. I love the Pink Floyd reference!

I'd like to have something like this one day!! The yellow diamonds just bring it to another level. Thank you for sharing your pretties.

We're back to RED folks!

This thread makes me so happy- love catching up and seeing everyone’s colorful pieces!

Here is my contribution for red (mismatched ruby earrings):

Well, brown is 'dark orange', so my new 12-sided orangey brown zircon counts as orange. It looks more orange and more sparkly in real life that in the pic:

There's no doubt it's a zircon - see the doubled facet edges!

!! Not only are the stones fabulous, but I LOVE that they're mismatched. Have you worn them?

You know you can count me amongst the resident zircon lovers (I love my brown one too). I so enjoy seeing them shared here (not enough, IMO)! And this precision cut is magnificent. Congrats on that beauty!

YELLOW is up!
