LLJsmom - I LOVE that pendant. I actually really like the onyx and think it looks wonderful with your complexion and hair. But if you would prefer the MOP or rather save up for the earrings, then do that so you can get what you truly want. But I don't know that I can really be helpful about returning this pendant because I think it looks so great on you! I also really, really love onyx though.

Distract me, I looked at it again. It's heavy and substantial and exquisite. Maybe you should consider it if you love onyx. I love the solid gold back.

Hi ladies, I need a little help and perspective heRe so I thought this is the place. I have been doing a little VCA damage during my stress times and I need help deciding whether to keep this holiday pendant. I've been on tPF and you know how HARDCORE those VCA enthusiasts are. Any VCA is good VCA. I don't disagree. But from a girl that is on a budget and can only get a little every now and then I need to be picky.

I love his pendant. It's really beautiful on. The workmanship is stunning. I feel so special wearing it. But, I don't LOVE the onyx on me cause I think it doesn't complement my more olive complexion. I actually really like the MOP a lot more. And TBH, the piece I wanted to get first is the sweet pave studs, which is about $2k more than this is pendant. Maybe I should save up a little more and get those. Actually I cannot buy any VCA earrings unless they change the posts to platinum and custom make them extra skinny. I am waiting on the SA to let me know about that.

Can you guys help me be practical about this? Here is a pic of the holiday pendant on me. I'll try to post another pic with the MOP sometime later this week. I am still within my return window.

LLJsmom, I'm always happy to see this thread re-surrected! lol

I have to say I agree with you about the holiday pendant. My SA sent me a pic in all excitement and wanted me to go over to try it on asap. Well, I did and I have to say I'm underwhelmed. I'm not sure exactly why. I do have slightly olivey (is that even a word? lol) skin and it's not flattering on me. Moreover, I find that the piece, even on its own, doesn't really do anything for me. As a huge VCA fan, I was surprised at my reaction, or rather lack of reaction.

Now, I like the MOP too. I can't wait to see the pic on you.

But tbh, if you really want the Sweet pave earrings, provided they can make all the necessary adjustments as per your request, I'd go for those instead. There's a certain something about the pave pieces that just makes one go gaga! IMO anyway! ;))

Phoenix, funny you feel the same sway too. It easy to get swept up in the VCA tidal wave. I'm trying to see clearly and it was harder when I was so stressed about work. Now that the deadline has passed, I can admit that I don't want to settle and feel pressured. Regardless the onyx is going back.

I don't love this pendant on you. I love the way the sweet bracelets look on you - they make me envious. This, I'm apathetic about when I look at it on you, so if it doesn't make me wish I were you, return it BAHAHAHAHAHAA
Pinto, you're hilarious!! Thanks for your honesty. It's great and I get it. The onyx is going back. Great by itself. Great on others. Just not great on me. I won't pressure myself into loving this.

Re: Let's talk branded pieces...Yssie, DS, and all other fan

LLJsmom, I'm with PB on the onyx pendant. I was super excited to see your what your latest acquisition was. But to be honest, when I saw the pic, the feeling was underwhelming. What is this about Sweet pave studs that I keep reading about?!!

^Thanks. Yes, that's what I was thinking too. I have read that some people ordered a size larger for the cuff (vs. the bangle). Have you ever compared the two styles and do you have any sizing advice?

Yes! The cuff comes smaller than the bangle, so you may need to go one size bigger for the cuff than you would if you were to go for the bangle.

RE which style: the Love bangle is supposed to stay on 24/7. It's a b*tch to take on and off and you're not supposed to do that, because I've read that it loosens the screws. But you know, I still think fleetingly about the 4-diamond Love I bought and returned. I miss the look and I think I'd have got used to wearing it 24/7. I wear my VCA bracelet almost 24/7 now and sometimes I forget I have it on.

So, cuff and bangle: totally different looks and impacts IMO. If you've always wanted the bangle, go for that!

I'm a bad example. My wrists are pretty boney and scrawny. No lovely roundness at all. Even the smallest size is big on me. But I had to settle for the smallest in the cuff. Visually I prefer a tighter fitting look. Will you just go for the most comfortable size? Believe it or not, I found the JUC to be the best fitting. But I would not consider that piece because it is just too impractical. Talking about banging a piece around right? But it is so stunning.

I know.....the JUC is soooooooo stunning...... I was thinking of a Love just because it's a classic, but the JUC is more edgy and I like that about it.

Part 1 further research:

Went to try on the pave sweet. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I have experienced VCASS. guess what that means. The pave sweet looked too small to me!! See pic below. Reminds me of my studs. And guess what I actually really liked. Vintage MOP with white gold. Who woulda thought?

Re: Let's talk branded pieces...Yssie, DS, and all other fan

I also tried on the classic vintage MOP in yellow gold for a pendant. I do love it so much more than the onyx. Sad to say but true. I get to try on the butterfly pendant tomorrow. I have a feeling I will fall in love with it.

And another piece I am adding to my list is the long onyx magic pendant. Thatnpiece I love in onyx. The MOP I want to wear close to my skin. The black and yellow gold magic pendant pops on my clothes.

I met a lady there who had a stack of vintage solid yellow gold 5 motif, yellow gold and MOP, and yellow gold and turquoise bracelets on, all on one arm. She said she has had them for 30 years, never takes them off, washes dishes, showers, gardens. Does everything in them. They looked worn in but still great. She wore them so much the links broke. It was so cool to see a person who has worn her VCA on a daily basis long term. She definitely preferred the vintage MOP in white gold to the pave sweet.

Oh, I love the vintage MOP earclips better on you now that you've tried them on, LLJ!

I'm going to keep everyone in suspense a little bit longer on my lil' project--don't want to derail this thread!

Re: Let's talk branded pieces...Yssie, DS, and all other fan

I really like the MOP on you too, it has a lovely, glowy quality about it that is really flattering. I must admit to being a teensy bit disappointed when I heard the holiday pendant was going to be onyx- it is very classic but I know it would look too harsh on my skin (very fair and freckly!). I was really hoping for something with colour- I'd have been all over turquoise or lapis....

m-2-b, I would love it if you sent this thread off the rails. I usually love where you go. But of course it is fun to keep the suspense building, and I am sure that your "lil" project will need it's own SMTB thread. Thanks for giving us a little teaser. I can't wait!!

Snowdrop, it's funny because I feel like someone with fair skin would be able to show off the onyx to it's best advantage. I totally agree with you about the MOP. It is "glowy". That's the exact reason why I like it so much, but I don't think I have ever been able to nail down why. I can't wait to try the butterfly. Yeah, I agree with you. If it was lapis, I would never have returned it. I have been wanting a piece of lapis jewelry forever, but they are hard to find, and not in a style I like when I do find them.

I LOVE the MOP on you, LLJsmom.

Phoenix, any pics to share? Just popping in here since I didn't want to post pics of pieces that I don't actually own.

Sorry, nothing specific. I was just wondering if you have been at the boutique lately. I am loving the cuff so much I'm feeling a little obsessed with another one. I was just there. Lemme know what you think. Strangely I prefer the cuff in the same color.

LLJsmom,

Ah ok. Not been recently. Been rather busy with work

You know, I like the contrast between yellow gold and WG. But what YOU like is the only thing that matters.

@Phoenix, @diamondseeker2006 @kama_s and anyone else interested I need some advice.

I've been stalking some VCA pieces (again...) and I am trying to prioritize my purchases. I am wanting a rose gold vintage bracelet and @diamondseeker2006 how do you like yours? How often do you wear it and what are pros and cons so far?

I have also gone back and reconsidered the sweet pave studs. I confess. I am getting tired of my one pair of earrings, my studs. I am ready for a change. I think VCA will change the posts to platinum for me for free. At $5200 I think it is doable for me. What do you guys think about the price point? I have tried them on before but I thought they were too small. But realistically I would never wear the vintage size because I am so paranoid about stretching my ear holes. So the sweet pave studs it is.

So should I go for the studs first? I kinda feel like I should. And save the bracelet for 2018.

Lastly, I found a piece that I have wanted for a while.
The holiday pendant in lapis. I am waiting for it, and will post pics when I get it. VCA doesn't make this any more. But if I get it, I may have to put off any other purchase in 2017.

Any ideas and thoughts would be welcome.

@LLJsmom I first had the rose gold 6 motif sweet bracelet, but my skin tone is pink and the pink gold needs some contrast. I think it works better on paler skin or darker skin than mine. So I returned it and got the yellow gold Vintage bracelet and I like it much better in size and color. I'll post pics at the bottom (they are awful pics, but you can see the color of the rg). I adore my vintage bracelet and wear it more than my tennis bracelet because it can be worn with almost everything!

I really think the sweet earrings are good for teens and young women. I honestly think the vintage size is best for earrings across all ages, although the larger magic ones are nice, too. They don't hang so they really can't stretch ear holes. They have the clip backs which hold them on the ears (and have a post). I guess you saw Phoenix's post about getting the pave vintage earrings. They aren't big but they are beautiful. You could get the solid gold (yg or rg) to match the bracelets you wear if you don't want to invest in the vintage pave.

Plus I think it looks better to wear vintage size earrings with a vintage size bracelet.

I keep editing this because I think of other things! One other reason that vintage earrings are not so heavy is because they are made of gold. So much lighter than platinum! You ARE young now, but eventually I think the sweets would look too small. I can see giving them to a daugther for graduation so she could wear them for 10-15 years until she could move up to vintage.

WAIT!!! Is the holiday pendant this year in Lapis??? If so, what is the metal???

Okay, no, I see that is not lapis and the holiday pendant is not tempting to me at all. So you must be buying an older piece.

Thanks DS. I 'm not that young but thank you. :mrgreen2: I have tried on the vintage sizes and I really find them heavy. And I really really don't like clips. That is why I would go for the sweet. I will go and try the vintage size again just to be sure though. I even find that the studs I wear pull at my ears. That is how much I dislike anything pulling on my ears. The sweet would essentially be a stud.

It is good to know you like wearing your bracelet. I think I would like it a lot too. I would get it In a vintage size and in rose gold because it goes with my skin tone. The yellow is a little harsh on me. Ok, so the bracelet would seem to be a yes.

Yes I found a lapis with a diamond pendant. It's from 2010. I just love this color. It is my first choice of any color. This year is bullseye, which is like a red tiger eye. Not for me.

I adore lapis and turquoise and am sad they can't come up with the material to stock those! How wonderful that you found the lapis one!

I can understand if the vintage earrings are uncomfortable to you. I am considering getting the yg ones to match my bracelet, and get pendants with stones to wear with them.

The rose gold is beautiful. It looked great on my daughter who is Asian. I like the combination of rose old with white metals more, but sadly it just didn't look that good on my skin!

I do not usually read this thread and cannot afford any jewelry. Also: I have not worn one piece of jewelry in what I believe is over a year. Not a single one except when I went to a party and put a few pieces on for a few hours. (That would be once.) I do not even wear one ring. Just a watch. So buying jewelry would be stupid. BUT. Where do those cuff bracelets come from, LLJsmom? They re gorgeous! I feel like owning one so I don't wear it.

@DS - I love both the rose gold and the yellow gold VCA jewelry. I would love owning those pieces, which, of course, I would not wear, too!

Hi, Deb! :wavey:

I wear basic pieces (wedding set, earrings, and sometimes watch) 95% of the time. It is pretty bad to keep buying jewelry and not wear it much! So I can relate to what you are saying!

LLJsmom had on Cartier Love cuffs. The regular ones are screwed on and worn 24/7 which I couldn't stand. So I do like the cuffs better!

Hi Deb,
It's the Love cuff in rose gold in the traditional width from Cartier. I stacked two on my arm in those pics. I was considering buying a second because I too think two stacked together looks amazing. It looks gorgeous, but not so easy to wear when you are sitting at a desk all day. It's one of those things. It would work for you if you don't mind it kind of obstructing your resting your arm on the desk when you are typing or using your mouse. I wish I had thought about that before I bought it. I don't wear it nearly enough, but I'm kinda hoarding it because it's so beautiful. :confused2: But who knows Deb. Maybe if you love it enough, maybe you will wear it. I remember for the first 15 years of my marriage, I wore only a plain domed 3mm platinum band, and a watch on my left arm. Nothing anywhere else. Now I've get a diamond ring, diamond studs, which are the things I am wearing daily right now.

Thanks, LLJsmom! I don't know if I would wear those, but I love the way they look! And I do like two of them! (Why would I have to like Cartier?)

I can see the YG vintage earrings on you DS. I think they would look amazing. The yellow pops more on your fair skin. I agree that the size, visually, is quite perfect. I wish that I wasn't that paranoid about stretching my earlobes. The vintage size really makes the Alhambra stand out, yet it's not too big. You know, I think I am glad I am on a budget and am forced to give any VCA/Cartier purchase a LOT of thought and time. I think I can only buy them if I know I will get lots of wear out of them. If I had known that I wouldn't wear my cuff much, I may never have bought it. Now that I have, I can't let it go, and I want to buy another. I'm so bad. But I was very close to buying the vintage yellow gold MOP earrings, but I am glad I didn't because I don't think I would have worn them because of the weight. I do think the sweet bracelets are too small, but I can't let them go either because they are so beautiful. These pieces are so tempting.

And agree. I wish they would bring back more colors in the blue family. The lapis is such a find. I never see the pendant on pre-loved. When I did, I just jumped on it. I would love the gray MOP something that would contrast well with my olive Asian coloring. The warm tones just make me it blend in too much, cause I already have dark hair, and tanned skin.

This thread. (Well, PS in general, but this thread especially...:wall:) I had been living in ignorant bliss, but alas, no more. I've never cared much for the look of branded pieces I'd seen until I started seeing people's VCA pieces on PS. And now a trip to Nieman Marcus the next time I'm in SF is on the list so I can play with some Alhambra pendants instead of just drooling all over my keyboard! :lol-2:

I can't WAIT to see your lapis pendant, @LLJsmom!
