What songs are you going to/did you play for the big moments of your receptions?
1. Grand Entrance - Parents
2. Grand Entrance - Bridal Party (if different from parent entrance)
3. Grand Entrance - Couple
4. Bouquet Toss
5. Garter Toss
6. Cake Cutting
7. FIRST DANCE!
8. Father/Daughter
9. Mother/Son
10. Bridal Party
Did I miss any others?

So far all we''ve decided on is the First Dance song, "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole. My FI can''t sing, but he has serenaded me with this one on occassion, so I''m using it even if it''s not a traditional song choice. All the other songs are up in the air right now since FI and I are complete opposites when it comes to music. He wants to play Heavy Metal

while I''m pushing for Motown.

Still deciding some of them. Maybe this list will help me too!

1. Grand Entrance - I was thinking somewhere in here, I'm playing "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night

4. Bouquet Toss--unsure!

5. Garter Toss--unsure!

6. Cake Cutting--unsure

7. FIRST DANCE!- "With You I'm Born Again" Billy Preston and Syreeta

8. Father/Daughter- n/a, my dad passed away

9. Mother/Son- "Through the Years" Kenny Rogers

10. Bridal Party-" My Favorite Girl " New Kids on the Block (a LOT of history with this song!) Just for the BM though, probably wont do total bridal party dance

Did I miss any others?

My last dance song will be "Could I Have this Dance" by Anne Murray

Our DJ also suggested we dedicate a song to each set of parents/families as a surprise. So I thought I would play "My Kind of Town" by Frank Sinatra for my Chicago bred family, and "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver for FI's West Virgina family!

1. Grand Entrance - Parents

Did I miss any others?

Great thread Lolly, and btw, L-O-V-E is my absolute favorite NKC song. I've loved it since I was a kid and if the boy and I could dance, I'd love to dance to it as well!

Re: the grand entrance-- I want to attend my own cocktail hour because I feel like that's the easiest time to actually talk to people. I'm not going to make a grand entrance there, so would the wedding party leave and then come back for a grand entrance at dinner or should I skip it altogether? Not really sure how this all works and would appreciate everyone's advice!

Not doing the garter/bouquet toss.

Cake cutting is up in the in air. I liked the idea of "Sugar Sugar" because we're doing the whole Motown/Classic Rock style music at the reception itself (basically, if it couldn't fit in with the "Animal House" soundtrack, it shouldn't be played). I also want to incorporate some Lyle Lovett and Van Morrison though. If we went the Lyle route, I think Moritat (Mack the Knife), She's No Lady, or My Baby Don't Tolerate would be cute. I'd want to use Crazy Love by Van Morrison. (Yay for the Moondance album, Jesse's Girl, Into the Mystic is such a fantastic song choice, by the way)

First Dance: You Never Even Called Me By My Name (David Allan Cole)

Father/Daughter: Debating between Thank Heaven For Little Girls (Gigi soundtrack) and In This Life (The Beatles)... Dad is going to make the final decision. (Again, Jesse's Girl--good music choices!

)

Mother/Son: The boy will have to make this decision. Which means it will probably not get made for quite some time.

Bridal Party: Probably won't do it

Last Dance: Something by Jimmy Buffett--haven't started narrowing it down yet.

If anyone has suggestions about my cake cutting/grand entrance thoughts--please let me know! I need as much advice as possible...

1. Grand Entrance - Parents - Don''t know

2. Grand Entrance - Bridal Party (if different from parent entrance) - The kill bill song.. I forget what its called and I am totally stealing this idea from a knottie, but I dont care!!

3. Grand Entrance - I beleive we are using "falling for you" by weezer

4. Bouquet Toss - dont know

5. Garter Toss - dont know.. but its NOT Girls just wanna have fun

6. Cake Cutting - Perhaps another weezer song.. El Scorcho was our song when we first started dating.. so I want it played
at our wedding, but I don''t know what its appropriate for.

7. FIRST DANCE! - "Dance with You" by Live

8. Father/Daughter - Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof

9. Mother/Son - DOn''t know.. thats up to them

10. Bridal Party- we''re not having a bridal party dance. I think they''re dumb.

1. Grand Entrance – Parents - Don’t know
2. Grand Entrance - Bridal Party - “We are family”… maybe
3. Grand Entrance – Couple - “Good Lovin”
4. Bouquet Toss- "Girls!" - Beastie Boys
5. Garter Toss- “Legs” - ZZ Top
6. Cake Cutting - Don’t Know
7. FIRST DANCE - “At Last” Etta James
8. Father/Daughter - My dad won on this one – “Daddy’s Little Girl”
9. Mother/Son - “Because you loved me” Celine Dion
10. Bridal Party - Not Sure…. Thinking about “I have nothing” Whitney Houston

Honestly I never even thought about choosing all these songs too!!! My wedding is in 6 weeks!!!!!

PNP, What a sweet idea to dedicate songs to your family. I may just have to copy you on that one, hope you don''t mind.

Abradabra, I want to enjoy the cocktail hour too (or as much of it as possible). My photographer assured me that he won''t take too long since we plan to have the majority of the pics taken before the ceremony. This should allow us to be introduced half way into the cocktail hour. Half is enough for me, but if you want to be able to enjoy the entire cocktail period, you can exit while everyone is being seated for dinner, then be introduced there.

I guess I''ll list some of the better suggestions we''ve had.
2. Grand Entrance - Bridal Party: "That''s What Friends Are For"
3. Grand Entrance - Couple: "I Feel Good"
4. Bouquet Toss: "It''s Raining Men"
5. Garter Toss: "Another One Bites the Dust"
6. Cake Cutting: Our DJ suggested something unconventional for the this. Instead of playing a song, he will give a play-by-play and use funny sound effects. "They''re cutting the cake ... now feeding each other "
It sounds really fun and I''m think we''ll go with it.

8. Father/Daughter: n/a, deadbeat dad
9. Mother/Son: FI and FMIL don''t like dancing so I''m not going to push it
10. Bridal Party: It''s nice to hear that I''m not the only person foregoing this little tradition; my party doesn''t want to have to dance together. My poor FI was a groomsman at our friend''s wedding recently and he actually hid from his partner to avoid it. I felt sorry for the girl when the party was called to the dance floor and she stood around looking for him.

What songs are you going to/did you play for the big moments of your receptions?
Grand Entrance - Mrs. Robinson -- that's our last name
Cake Cutting - When I'm 64/The Sweetest Thing (our awesome DJ mixed these two in a really cool way!)
FIRST DANCE!: Up on the Roof by The Drifters (That's where now-husband proposed)
Father/Daughter combined with Mother/Son: Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World combo by IZ -- Hawaiian singer
Bridal Party -- Groovin'...on a Sunday Afternoon .. This wasn't "dumb"
2.gif
for us because our entire wedding party was married to each other. Besides, it was the perfect song for a happy family on a late Sunday afternoon in the summer.
Did I miss any others?
Last dance for us: Fields of Gold by Sting ... Eva Cassidy did a BEAUTIFUL version of this song ... we used it to open our ceremony
Last dance for everyone: Walkin' on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves

One suggestion I have is to break up your songs so that they're not all done at the same time...for instance, we were introduced into the cocktail hour of our reception and did our first dance and BP dance on the deck outside. After dinner we did our cake cutting (we didn't make a huge deal out of this, as I feared I would drop cake on my dress with a large audience!) then we went right into combined parent dance. At that point everyone was out on the dance floor and never left til the wedding was over!

oops.... I hit submit twice, newbie here!!!

Hey guys, keep these song ideas comin'!! It's very helpful to me! Wether it's what you HAD or what you plan on having at your wedding. Ceremony AND Reception. I want alot of classics, new songs, even re-makes (take my breath away - jessica simpson) and I LOVE Frank Sinatra. Also, I'm still battling with which song to use for the bridal party to walk down the aisle to. My song is Unchained Melody to walk down to (orchestral version)

Like I said... Keep 'em coming!!

P.S. What are some of your colors?? My bridesmaids will be sporting Fuschia!!!

Forgot the last song- Dancing in the moonlight
My parents are dancing to their song " I Love you for sentimental reasons by the Beatles
I am having a band so I hope they can play these songs correctly...they are great so I am thinking positive. the only one that might be hard is Girls Just Want to have Fun...this is a must. It is an inside childhood joke, I had the record when i was like 4 and was OBSESSED with cyndi lauper in nursery school...I listened to that damn record until it broke!!!

1. Grand Entrance - Parents: None

2. Grand Entrance - Bridal Party (if different from parent entrance): None

3. Grand Entrance - Couple: I''m sure it was lovely, but I have no idea! BIL was in charge of all the music and at some point I approved of the song choice.

4. Bouquet Toss: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I even got some of the girls to fight for the bouquet - YES!!

5. Garter Toss: The Stripper. It''s a cliche, but it worked.

6. Cake Cutting: Same as Entrance - I don''t remember at all!

7. FIRST DANCE!: Nat King Cole''s (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons. We learned a fox trot routine for it.

8. Father/Daughter: Lee Ann Womak''s I Hope You Dance

9. Mother/Son: None. MIL doesn''t dance.

10. Bridal Party: N/A. After the father/daughter, it was general dancing.

Hey, do you know which volume of Kill Bill? Did you figure out the song name? I also thought that one song from pulp fiction would be cool too! Do you know which one I mean?

thought i''d bump for any recent brides...

For our grand entrance, we used "Start Me Up," by the Rolling Stones. DH wanted it, and it turned out to be a great choice. Our first dance was "At Last" by Etta James, and I danced with my father to "My Girl," by (?)the Temptations? Smokey Robinson?

Abradabra--how did you handle the cocktail-hour/grand entrance issue? I''ve got the same problem.

Our DJ suggested "Paradise City" by Guns and Roses for the grand entrance. I''ve been thinking about it marginally for months now and I just don''t know. But now seeing some of the ones you gals have mentioned, I don''t think it''s so far out any more.

As for the rest, haven''t even thought about it yet except for our first dance: "Into My Arms" by Nick Cave.

QUESTION: is the first dance right after the grand entrance? If not, then what do we do after the grand entrance? For the life of me I can not remember what I''ve seen at other weddings and at the last one I was at (last month) I got stuck on a phone call in the bathroom giving directions to my fiance who was late so I totally missed the whole grand entrance and I believe they went straight into the first dance.

according to theknot.com you enter and head to the dance floor for the first dance- or you can wait for the dance after the salad is served.

All I have so far is our first dance "Beyond the Sea" by Robbie Williams covering the Bobby Daren song, it is in the end credits of Finding Nemo. We are going to be doing a foxtrot. Considering he will have been to Iraq (FI is a Naval physician) twice since we started dating in Jan. 2004, he has been beyond the sea, 2 many too times! Hehe...
