If it sells, it sells and I'll get a different gown that is well, gonna fit me. (Gained some weight since I've bought it, gonna lose it, but it's making me REALLY nervous). the gown is a 12 and I'm not. I was a 14 before Christmas, but right now my clothes are snugger than I'd like to admit to. I AM going to lose weight, but the size of the gown is scaring me. I'd rather alter DOWN than up.

If it doesn't I'll alter best I can.

Sending you tons of good luck vibes!!

Ive got my fingers crossed for you!

Thank you all! Yeah, I pulled it out on Sunday. And thought it was lovely. But wasn't in love with it. Eyeballed it for size and snorted. Decided that if I add 400 of alterations costs to make it my dream dress to my ebay price, I can get a gown, IN MY SIZE, that I do love. And hopefully, quickly.

good luck. I hope you find the dress of your dreams

do you have a picture of the dress? Or, your ebay user name, so I can search for the auction?

eta: I think I found it. Good luck in selling it!!

good luck gypsy! i''m sure someone will buy it - it is really pretty!

Well. I went to a bridal salon to try on some gowns. And well... I''m more sure than ever that I''m making the right decision. They had gowns in exactly my size and it just looked so much better, and I felt so much better.

I was surprised by the quality of the Maggies I tried on. I''m still not sold on corset back, but for my figure it did LOVELY things. So... reconsidering that.
They didn''t carry a lot of Paloma''s ( I was looking for 3859, 3854, 3853, and 3851) but I did find one I liked not sure about my tummy in a mermaid gown though, 3856
And they didn''t have the Mikaela I wanted to try on (1252).

The salesgirl (great girl Katrina at Elegant Lace in San Jose) was FABULOUS. And she brought this one gown on that is just SO not ANYTHING I would EVER have chosen for myself. And it looked good on and truth to tell, I felt like a princess. Which I have never felt like in ANY of the gowns I tried on. It''s itchy though... but I told her to keep it on the list. It''s got three things I dislike (for myself): Tulle, BEADED LACE (I love lace, but just REALLY beaded lace)... and no defined waist line.

I was shocked. No pics, but I''ll take some on Friday when I go back.

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=8&page=7&style=S5128 (this is the one that took me by surprise, SO not something I''d pick, but it looked darned good)

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=8&page=12&style=J1086 (waist was cream on cream, sash was gold looked much better than in this picture) It was the closest to the style I went looking for. Only thing I would change IF I could, was the beading on the lace. I just prefer lace plain. But the seamstress said they could probably remove all the beading if I wanted.

http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?page=0&pageSize=64&style=ASM3040 (My favorite-- but with the green sash they had)

http://www.palomablanca.com/ go to collections. It''s dress number 3856 very simple mermaid gown.

FWIW, My favourite is #3, followed by #4. I love the sash and strapless look!! Of course all the dresses look great on a size 0 model, but, if it''s not too personal, what dress size is your goal?

In the maggies I can wear a 12-14 now. Maggies run larger than Rivini. So I would likely order a 12, because if, by some miracle, I lose more weight, the corest back alows for one size down one size up. In the Paloma''s they bridal. So I don''t know what I''d order, but I''d order it for me now, and alter down if I had to.

I''d like to get to a 10-12. Twelve is very possible. 10 isn''t. And with the satin mid section of the rivini, I''d have to have super toned abs and tummy at 12, which is also difficult.

I''m built soft. I have small bone structure and a lot of meat on me. I also have a difficult time with muscle defintion. I''ve never (even ih HS playing sports and on the track team) had much definition, and have always been curvy.

I had never even heard the term "definition" applied to muscles until about two years ago; now, that''s what it''s all about. I love the look, but like you, could never achieve it if I exercized 24 hours a day for the rest of my life.

Most of my adult life, I wavered between a 10 and a 12 depending on the designer, but my wedding dress was an 8 and had to have the waist taken in

. Ah! Those were the days!!!

So never happening again!

I''m currently on a self-imposed "cut back" (not diet!!!) regime and in the past 2.5 weeks I''ve lost 8 lbs. and hope to lose at least another 40. This " cutting back" is not only for aesthetic reasons, but also an attempt to avoid heart, stroke and diabetes before it''s too late.

Oh I agree. I''m heavy right now. I gained about 10 pounds in Dec/January. So I need to start watching everything and working out again ASAP. Not just for the beauty and the wedding, but for health as well.

I really like all the gowns you sited. That being said, as a curvy girl myself, I know that the mermaid silhouette is not neccessarily our friend. Strapless is fine; after all, a size 12 is not even close to fat (!); but something with more of an A-line shape will ultimately be the most flattering. And number 1 was very pretty! Number 3 might be just the thing to hide a bit of tummy because of the ruching/pleating effect from bodice to hips. The other two are beautiful, but will they work as a size 12, making you feel you look your best?

Thank you everyone for the good wishes and fairy dust! I''m REALLY hoping it sells now.

Holly, I wore a mermaid as a guest to a wedding I recently attended and it was SO flattering on me. SO I decided to give mermaid bridals a try. HOWEVER, I am worried about my tummy. THere is only so much spanx can do, so you are right on. Good new is, that''s the tummy is the first place I lose weight when I diet (last place is my HUMUNGO arms).

hey gypsy!
BEST OF LUCK getting your dress sold! I found your auction and it is very honest and accomodating to buyers so I hope you get some bites!

My cousin who was trying to sell hers last week has decide to keep it and see if she can alter her skirt into what she wants....

So what will you buy if you sell this one??

Thank you Sophie!

This is the gown I'd like to find to try on (no luck yet)

And this Maggie today (The red is awful, you have to imagine it in all diamond white) is similar and looked good on me. The maggie is half the price of the Paloma though. And sometimes the Paloma's can fit me strangely. They are similar, although the Paloma is uses higher end fabrics. And the train on the Maggie is completely unadorned. I know that the Paloma has buttons down the back.

Here are a few other''s I''d like to try on:

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=m&showAll=1&pageSize=8&style=S5083

And this one was my favorite from my try ons today. I LOVED the green sash and the broach was a really nice one that really put the finishing touches on it all. Again, though, the back of the gown was very plain.

Okay just double checked. The paloma does NOT have an adorned train ot buttons either. So, over 500 bucks savings is worth it for me. SO I''m gonna take a friend dress shopping with me at Lunch on Friday to see that gown as well as others. So, maybe I''ll finally find THE dress (sigh).

If any South bay ladies are free... I''ll be at Elegance Lace Bridal Salon by the oakridge mall in San Jose on Friday at noon. Come one, come all. LOL.

Wow, they are basically the same dress! I really like the Maggie, especially ''cause it''s half the price!

I really like the Watters 1084B; it''s gorgeous. And the Celestine Maggie gown is angelic!

The Watters is sophisticated and memorable in its beautiful simplicity.

The Celestine has an ethereal, romantic, princessy feel to it. But it''s a lot different from your other choices. ??

Seems like you really like the ruching, pleating, and sashing on the other dresses; and really any of them would be a great choice.

Gee, I didn''t help you decide at all, did I?

Aw Gypsy! I wish you the best of luck in selling the Rivini! I can''t wait to see what you choose for your new dress! I''m off to check out those links now.

The dresses you''re currently looking at are very similar to the one a friend of mine wore in her wedding last August! She lives in San Francisco, but made the trek out to Sacramento for the dress (don''t know if that''s too far away from you...). It''s from a shop called Miosa Couture. I can''t seem to dig up a decent picture of my friend in it, or grab one from the website, but here''s a link - the style is called Twiggy. If it makes a difference, I think it ran her roughly $1500, and since it was made to order, she didn''t need to worry about add''l costs from alterations.

Thanks for the heads up PT! Sac isn''t too far away from me. I am trying to keep this, MY THIRD gown, as low cost as possible while still looking nice in the pics.

Holly you are absolutely right! The Celestine caught by eye for some reason a few months ago, and I haven''t forgotten it. It''s SO VERY INCREDIBLY different from the way I normally dress and the other gown styles I''ve looked at. But it looks SO romantic and a little fairytale princessey... so I thought, IF I can the stupid thing to try on, where''s the harm in that?

Gypsy, are you still in the Bay Area? I think you might like Liancarlo dresses You can see some of his dresses at Marina Morrison

They look expensive. LOL. I''m cutting back expenses to afford a day off coordinator I found. How much do they run?

I''m loving the maggie price tags (still not sold on the corset back).

Gypsy, did you look at all the Maggie Brides on that website. Maybe someone is wearing one of your choices or a similar dress so you can get an idea of what *real* bodies will look like in each gown. I swear I''ve looked at this site and never seen the brides before!

Gypsy - What is it you don''t like about the corset back?

gypsy, they are expensive... $3-6K

I went there so I could find a style i liked. I am leaning toward a mermaid style. Thankfully, I did not fall in love with anything at MM since it is expensive, but it was an enjoyable experience.

Gypsy - What is it you don't like about the corset back?
The look. I like buttons. LOL. What I do like about the corset back is the way I can tighten it and loosen it as I need, the lower cost of alterations as a result and the fact that the maggie with it is REALLY affordable. But if it weren't for the cost, I wouldn't get a corset back gown. I just don't care for the look. Strange but true.

gtn... I'm looking for a maxium of $1500. And that's only to allow for Paloma gowns. If it's not a Paloma I want under 800.
