I took a punt with this one - no cert, no appraisal, just amateur photos.

It ended up being a .5 ct H/VS2 OEC, set in 18kt and platinum. There's even an engraving of initials, and a date from 1918. The faceting on the stone is just divine, really the most beautiful I think I've ever seen in person. Shame it's not 10mm, lol.

I have no idea what to do with it. The ring is so comically large for me, too big for my DH even, that I could almost wear it as a bracelet. I may keep it tucked away for a future dangly earring project, or maybe a side stone for a three stone ring.

Nice facet patterning.

will be interested in seeing what becomes of it.....

What a beautiful OEC!

Well done!
you are right the faceting is just beautiful :)

Beautiful stone :sun:

She looks like a tranny to me, with a larger culet than usual, or a later "european cut", but hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
... so just how big is the ring? ::)

Gorgeous! What are you going to do with her??

What a pretty little thing! Maybe the stone could be a part of a future pendant? Say larger pear-shaped CS on the bottom, the pretty little diamond on top.

It's beautiful! You have a great eye for catching this little beauty... :naughty:

That's so pretty! What a nice find!

Gorgeous! Yay eBay!

Ooooh, I love that! Lovely stone!

Beautiful!

Are you still planning a MRB three stone to mark your degree? If so, this would make a killer pendant with a big colored stone pear. :naughty:

Great color/clarity for an OEC! And such lovely patterning too! Congrats on the awesome find :)

It's beautiful! I'm excited to see what you do with it.

Off topic, but do you know what that style of setting is called, where there's sort of a border around the stone (but not a bezel)? I hope to do something like that with an OMC stone.

What you can see from above is actually part of the setting below the stone - when done properly, it's called a buttercup setting. I think the effect in this ring is accidental, as if the stone is just a shade smaller than the setting was made for.

From a distance, it definitely looks like a tyrannies but then when I got clerk the culet was larger than normal and the under-table facets looked more petal-y than checkerboard-y. On the cusp of the cutting style chance, maybe?

The ring is so, so big. That info was left off the appraisal ( ), but my DH is a 9.5 and it's still very loose on him. I should take a picture of it on my hand so you can see.

I've really cooled on that idea, I'm so indecisive. I actually had the little ACA set by WF as a travelling engagement ring, and then ended up giving it away, lol. It was one of those cases where the person needed it more than me. I expect my end of degree celebration will be a u-prong eternity ring...but this time I'm not making plans in advance, lol.

Very pretty! The stone looks like a late OEC to me. Maybe you'll find a match and make it into a pair of earrings :) The setting if very pretty, by the way. It's too bad the ring doesn't fit any of your finger.

Great cut on that stone!
