Little girls in high heels...

Katie says they are kid''s ballroom dancing shoes. They are probably custom made. My kids were never interested in heels until they became teenagers. One still wears only flats for dressy occasions at age 19. I think if given the choice, most kids would not choose to wear heels. Celebrity kids are a whole other story obviously.

Ask any podiatrist what the number one cause of foot issues for women is and they''ll tell you wearing high heels. Children''s bones are soft and malleable, that means that over time with repeat exposure to the HH position their bones can become mis-formed (think of the Chinese foot binding practice of old). I think this is a real issue that''s going to cause foot problems down the road for many of these kids.
Agreed. My husband goes ballistic when our niece and nephew wear backless shoes, I can only imagine what he''d do if he saw our niece in heels.

This isn''t the one I was thinking of, but it''s a decent example.

Aha! This is the one I was thinking of.

The other pic I posted isn''t so bad - they are little girl shoes, not a bad heel at all. These ones? A bit too high in my opinion.

Sadly she will prolly become another lindsey lohan or paris hilton growing up in the spotlight anyway, so Katie is training her to wear stripper heals now.
Cant stand parents who flaunt their kids to the media like Katie has.

Heels are inappropriate. Even those little ones worn in the photo MP posted. A child can easily be running along while wearing shoes like that and end up twisting her ankle.

ETA - the gold ones make her look like a little old lady!

I''m not able to post pics from the computer that I am at. I see the picture that was posted, but there was one pair that was even higher that that! They were the ballroom dancing shoes and I think they were red with a strap that went across.

So, after further research it seems that the gold shoes pictured on Suri Cruise are actually ballroom dance shoes made for children. Ok, that I can understand. She wants to dress like mommy, Katie probably figured that was a somewhat safe option. I dunno...I doubt if Suri is really running around in heels 24/7.

I don''t think that''s quite a fair accessment - Katie has already dressed her really nice, maybe a little more grown up than she should be, but Katie herself dresses the same way. I seriously doubt Suri will be skanky just because she has a couple pairs of heels...come on.

Here are the red heels - that dress was super cute!

That''s what I read, too. Some people were talking crap about the shoes, and Katie pointed out that they are really supportive ballroom shoes. (Which makes sense - I have seen Suri in dance clothes many times online.)

Those don''t look any higher than the other ones. I wouldn''t be surprised if they were all kid sized character shoes. In hindsight, while still not thrilled about a kid wearing heels on a daily basis, character/dancing shoes are designed for dancing, and other activities.

Ridiculous imo. No heels no make up, they are kids!

yes Katie dresses the same way..Katie is a GROWN WOMAN. Little girls learn at that age how to be young ladies, and eventually women. If she is dressing her little girl in heels now, at 10-13 she is going to feel like shes all grown up and will be just like the other kid celebs. The one in the red coat, she already looks like a little 16 yr old street walker!

Really? Street Walker? Bit harsh to call a 3 year old a street walker, isn''t it? I see the point you are trying to make here, but I think this is extreme. She''s a cute kid. Katie loves fashion and couture, why is it so unreasonable for a mother to let her little girl dress up? I don''t see makeup or fake eyelashes or nails on Suri, what on earth is the big deal about some whimsical outfits and cute shoes?

Here's one picture I found of gold heels. Just a little redic.

ETA: Nevermind, I see others have already posted this pic plus some.

Heels are inappropriate for little girls on a daily basis. If she were wearing the dancing shoes to dance, that would be one thing. I also wouldn''t have a problem with little heels for a special occasion but not for just walking down the street.

I think this early obsession with looks and fashion above health and comfort is what leads to young celebs getting breast implants and nose jobs or starving themselves at such young ages.

Those are the ballroom ones I posted. I''m thinking her outfit is totally for class, considering she''s carrying a bag - I bet her regular clothes are in there.

She looks like a street walker while wearing a dress that is well below her knee and a calf length coat??

While I probably wouldn''t put my possible future daughter in heels for fear of damage to her feet I don''t see the harm in her wearing shoes that are meant for ballroom dancing. They look very supportive and sturdy. Maybe not totally age-appropriate but I don''t think that Katie needs to be flamed for the decision.

Now that it''s been mentioned...I guess Suri does look kind of hooker-ish, what with the red nail polish and all. Yup, she''ll be another Drew Barrymore, passed out with a bottle by the age of 9.

I think the picture of Suri in the red coat and heels just looks odd. Something about it doesn''t look right. It''s too grown up for a child of her age. I think little play heels are fine for playing dress up, but for every day wear? Nope. Too young. Not only does it look strange, I don''t think it''s safe, from a ''growing feet'' perspective, or from the persepctive that a young child is likely to break into a run at any given second! A little girl can look adorable, dressed up and age appropriate in a pair of ballet flats or Mary Janes.

Kids should be allowed to be kids. Play dress up sometimes, but to me a fun childhood is all about jeans, sneakers and mud puddles!

The thing of it is, though, that I don't think that Suri does take dance classes where she would need these shoes. When I originally saw the picture of Suri in heels, Katie was defending it by saying that she just liked to dress up and look good for Daddy (Tom). Also pictured with the shoes was Suri lubing up with red lipstick. Which is fine if it's just for dress up, but now it seems that she is actually wearing heels everywhere she goes.

ETA: She was also drinking starbucks in these photos (which could have been anything in the cup.) Unfortunately I can't find that original story.

There''s no way to actually know that unless you know them personally.

No, Monkeypie, I don''t know for a fact. Just going off of Katie''s defense of the heels as Suri wanting to look grownup, and not stating anywhere that they are for dance class (that I have seen.) This isn''t really a topic I have studied, just a two time observation.

her mother is dressing her like a street walker. Letting a little girl dress up is great! My girls dress up all the time, and they go out dressed up once in a while, but it doesnt seem to be a once in a while thing with Katie and Suri. I honestly think katie thinks is OK for a 3 yr old to wear high heels, and dress like an adult. I have seen her out and about with red lipstick too.

I think of whimsical outfits like a princess dress or foofoo outfits...not short red skirt, red coat and high heels. Maybe I am a bit harsh about it, but I see too many 9 and 10 yr olds in my neighborhood just walking around, and they are dressed like strippers and prostitutes.
Does anyone remember the thongs for toddlers?!

I know the full dress thing is a bit off topic, but I think what you teach your child is ''appropriate'' now, will inpact what she will wear when she is a pre teen/teenager.

FYI Katie dances and supports dancing foundations (as anyone who watched the last couple of seasons of SYTYCD can attest to) so it would not surprise me in the least to find out that Suri is in dance classes.

This may very well be a case of the three year old throws tantrums when she can''t "dress like mommy" and instead of dealing with that, she may have just found the best, most supportive heels she could find and is dealing with it that way. Or it could just be for special occasions.

Speaking as a former temper tantrum thrower, they can be brutal.

Also, tropicgal, if you think she looks like a street walker in her 1.5 inch heels, I must be a full blown hooker in my 5 inch heels.

Freke, I own 5 inch heel knee high boots. Difference is...we are adults. She is a 2-3 yr old.
We understand the type of attention long legs and high heels gets us, a 3 yr old should not be wearing clothes designed for that.

Well if you think Katie is dressing Suri like a street walker in a "short" (below the knee) red skirt and high heels, then I bet you would have thought I was a street walker at her age as well, spending every waking moment in a bathing suit and wearing high heels.

Did I mention that my mom was a conservatively dressing Catholic woman?

She looks like a three year old playing dress up to go out to lunch. Give me a break.

On another note, when I was looking for the original picture, I read that scientologists believe that children should be treated as adults and equal to adults. So it seems to me that maybe they are letting Suri make the decision as to what she wants to wear. Which again, I have no problem with. I guess I feel that the most inappropriate thing here is the damage that could be done to her feet, ankles, knees and hips. But then again, we all know the media skews things, and they could all only be taking pictures of Suri when she is wearing heels.

Wow, if she's dressing like that now, she's definitely going to be a teen mom by the time she's 15 or so....
