Not for my daughter. I hate this kinda stuff. Kids need to be kids and I feel that this encourages them to grow up fast. I know it''s just a fashion trend but I don''t think it''s kewl. I think she is going to be a tall girl so I don''t think she would need them!
Hee hee, totally off topic, but I''m 5''10" and don''t need heels but wear 3.5"-4" heels all the time. And I love it!

Also off-topic: I wonder if Suri will inherit Katie''s height or Tom''s? Wonder if Tom has Suri wearing heels because he likes tall chicks and wants Suri to be a tall-chick-in-training?

Here''s hoping she inherits Katie''s! Lol she''s already pretty tall for a 3 year old, or at least appears to be in pictures. It would be hilarious if she ended up taller than Tom.

I''ve never seen the Cruise child before, she''s really cute!

Wow, if she''s dressing like that now, she''s definitely going to be a teen mom by the time she''s 15 or so....
my point exactly....

Freke, I own 5 inch heel boots. Difference is...we are adults.
Well if you think Katie is dressing Suri like a street walker in a ''short'' (below the knee) red skirt and high heels, then I bet you would have thought I was a street walker at her age as well, spending every waking moment in a bathing suit and wearing high heels.

Did I mention that my mom was a conservatively dressing Catholic woman?

She looks like a three year old playing dress up to go out to lunch. Give me a break.
That DID say 5 inch heel ''knee high'' boots a minute ago.

Sounds kind of Julia Roberts/Pretty Woman to me.

Look, these people are actors, they play dress up for a living and of course their little one wants to participate in the fun. They aren''t ''normal'' people, when is the moral majority going to realize that they are not role models? Who cares if this kid is wearing heels? Is it HURTING your child to see that? No. Is it going to CAUSE your child to become a prostitute? No.
Well, unless your kid isn''t very intelligent, then you have a whole other issue.

HAHA actually, hubby calls the hooker boots LOL! I could care less what suri wears, but I do care what my kids wear, and they would never wear something like that. Heels were made to make you look sexy, and sexy isnt something I want my 3 yr old wearing, plain and simple.

She was being sarcastic, hah.

sarcasm or not, we will see in 10 yrs what she has graduated to attire wise ;-).

Monarch-LOL...I know what you mean. I am a tall lady but I am so not used to wearing high heels. I wear them for like 30 mins. and then put my flip flops on! LOL...

Its dumb. My 2 yr old has a pair of princess shoes with 1in heels, but its for fun and dress up. Wearing heals all the time as kids will cause serious growth problems in their feet, and lots of pain in the future.
But as far as podiatric health concerns, what do you think about children who go en pointe by the time they are 7-8 years old? Ballet slippers can cause a ton of damage but it seems acceptable for kids to participate in that sort of thing. A 1-2'' heel is a major concern but what about standing on blocks of wood several times a week during ballet practice, not to mention performances? Hmm. Just pondering.

I haven''t read the whole thread but I know when I first went on pointe, none of the dance stores in the area would sell them to anyone under 12 years old. None of the dance studios condoned it either...I dunno, I guess I''ve never seen a 7 year old on pointe...

So I have to ask, and no offense intended here, but weren''t you a young mother (I recall somewhere you said you''re 23 with two children one of whom is 8-correct me if I''m wrong here)? Do you feel that the clothes and shoes you wore as a toddler molded you into the person you are today or who were in your formative years?

I ran around naked as a kid (well not down the street but around the house and in the fenced in backyard out in the country) and I turned out pretty ok...well I guess that is still to be determined lol

I did too Smurfy. I 100% support babies running around nekkid at home!

Actually yes. I was 15 when I had my first. I know how I dressed, and I know my mother let me wear /do whatever I wanted at all ages. Sexy clothes attract boys who want to have sex. She will dress sexy when she is a teenager because she dressed sexy as a little kid...why not? Its what she is used to!

Running around naked at home and in your back yard is 100% different then prancing around in the street or the city streets. Common, you know that :-P.

TG, Thank you for explaining your view to us, this explains why you feel the way you do and I for one respect you more for it because it''s based on first-hand knowledge not just a gut reaction.

I saw a poor little girl (4 or 5 yrs old) limping around a shopping center in little high heals with her mum and just thought it was the most sad, rediculous thing. What on earth does a kid need heels for? And what is wearing them doing to her feet, legs and posture?

I don't have much of a problem with way it looks, given it's a small heel. My biggest concern would be the damage to her feet/back. I'm not a huge fan of heels myself (even with a husband who's 14 inches taller than I am), so if it's a case of "wanting to look like mommy," I guess it won't be much of an issue. She can have plenty of cute ballet flats.

I don''t know, I can''t put my finger on it, but there''s something about the way Suri looks in the red outfit and heels that bothers me a little. The whole look of the outfit is just so mature, it looks like something my 20 year old daughter would wear. That sweet little face and the outfit/heels just don''t seem to go together. Just my opinion, parents can dress their children however they want, and there''s nothing glaringly inappropriate about the outfit, but there''s a loss of innocence in this pic that makes me feel a little sad...kids grow up so fast as it is, why rush things? And the pic made me realize I really don''t like the look of heels on little girls. Again, just my opinion.

My sister once made the comment that children are so naturally beautiful that they really don''t need fancy clothing, it''s when we get to be adults that we need all the help we can get.

Junebug- I hear what you''re saying about the red dress picture. It''s something in her whole stride and the way her legs seem to be moving, paired with the heels and outfit that makes it look like a womans body, yet still a child. It is sort of creepy when you take it all in, it just looks totally strange.

I remember I got to wear/buy my first pair for my 8th grade graduation. I was 13 so it was a BIG deal. Even so I think they were only an inch and a half (IF that). I think they are so silly on little girls. My little one already plays with mine but I cannot imagine buying her heels of her own for a LOOOONG time. She trips in her tennis shoes. I cannot imagine the damage she would do running around in 2" heels.

When I was a little girl I loved my dress shoes because I loved the clicky clacky noise they made. However, I never had anything over an inch and they were only for special occasions. My mother actually kept them in her closet on the top shelf - that''s how "special" they were.

This thread helps me to understand a bit why I am able to find shoes in the children section of a large retail chain store that have a pretty high heel on them. I have to admit, I like to buy some of my work shoes from the children''s section because they have the height of a kitten heel but the heel is typically wider, so I have more stability. I can''t walk in "big girl" shoes most of the time because I have severely pronated ankles. I''m short so an extra inch goes a long way for me.

I don''t think I''d let my kid wear them but I secretly love them for myself

The first heels I remember owning were for my 5th grade graduation and I felt so grown up! Once I got to middle school I wore heels almost every other day because we wore uniforms and tennis shoes looked funny and loafers were made fun of. They were just high helled mary janes though... nothing strappy.

I think Suri looks really cute with those shoes on actually. Alot of kids shoes you see in stores have an inch or so heel... just alot chunkier. To me they honestly look the same height as what I''ve seen ALOT of kids wear for easter, church, etc... just a less bulky version. Just my opinion.

I wore my first pair of heels at 16. My parents were a little strict.

Suri is 3. I personally have to admit I''m bothered by the images of her wearing essentially, women''s attire. but I feel that way about any child under the age of 10. kids grow up way to fast as it is, images like this don''t help.

I never saw a picture of this child before but she looks like a mini adult in her red coat and little heels. Nothing particularly inappropriate about any of the items she''s wearing, but the overall look is odd for a three year old, to my eye.

Poor wee love.

I''m 28 and don''t see the need for heels most of the time, so on a small child? absolutely not!

For those of you that think the way Katie Holmes dressed Suri is very inappropriate, what about little girls wading heels while being a flower girl?

Without reading all the posts (bad, PPM, bad...) I think it's terrible/stupid/unhealthy.

Heels are bad for our feet, backs, posture, etc. Why start wearing them earlier than necessary? Little ones need adequate support, yet flexible soles- neither of which can be found in high heels.

Not to mention, kids look ridiculous in heels.

ETA: ...But I'm suddenly semi-jealous that Suri is about 500x more stylish than I am! Guess it helps to have celebs for parents.

London has a pair of adult heels she clunks around in. She likes to sit with me here and go thru the shoe threads and goes nuts when she sees Freke''s avatar. She''s in dance class. She wears her shoes *at* dance, not on the street-they''re ballet slippers and tap shoes anyway, not heels, but regardless, they''re for class, not running errands. She''s not allowed to play dress up in them at home either. If she was in a wedding and was going to wear a little kitten heel, whatever, she''s 6, she''ll have them on for pictures and the wedding and then at the reception she''ll have slippers or flats on so she can run around. She won''t be parading around town in a two inch heel. A''course, I''m not a celeb, so I don''t *parade* my child anywhere. If I was a celeb, I would still dress my kids like kids and not little mini me''s. I just see it as an attention/press getter.

I personally would not allow my daughter to wear high heels for any reason. They aren''t good for growing feet and I don''t like the way that they look, not at all. There are plenty pretty, special occasion shoes available for children, so no, not in a million years would she be wearing high heels as a flower girl.

woooo... if my little girl would want to look like mommy, she would be wearing Dansko/alegria clogs... and they have a heel and deemed one of the most comfortable shoes out there... Now, would that be bad?

hehe... do they make them this small?!

This would be my kid. I live in my danskos in the winter and reefs in the summer. I''ve seen some super cute Norwegian clogs for kids that had pretty painted flowers on them. Oh I hope I have a girl!
