i heard an interview with katie holmes once, and she was asked about suri.

she said, and i quote (because as a kids'' psych, this really stuck in my mind)...

"she''s an amazing woman - strong minded and she knows what she wants..."

she was 2 at the time.

if you see your 2 year old as a woman, whose wants are all valid and to be respected...

Did a little googling, and it looks like Katie may have other shoes with her for when Suri gets tired of the heels. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1215037/Now-little-lady-Suri-Cruise-stops-traffic-pair-dress-heels.html She went into the store in silver heels, and came out in sneakers.

Methinks that the little girl may just want to play dress up and Katie has the means to indulge her. Shoot, my friend's 3 year old runs around the house in heeled princess shoes, the difference being hers come from Target and don't fit very well. Suri's got the advantage of her parent's being able to afford to indulge her...

ETA: If Katie is putting her in them to make a statement, then that is so not cool. If it's a matter of indulging a 3 year old's wish to look like MaMa, I don't see a huge problem with it. *shrug* Assuming, of course, that the kiddo has the option to take them off when she wants!

ETAA: I found 4 pics of Suri in heels. I found many, many more of the kiddo in sneakers, ballet flats etc. Just a thought.

"Strong woman" my butt. She''s a toddler. Since when has a two-year-old NOT known what they want? I''ve met Tacori''s daughter, and she knows what she wants, too - but that doesn''t mean it''s the right thing for her to have.

Haha! I was thinking the SAME thing. My daughter is "strong minded and she knows what she wants" but it doesn''t mean she always gets it! I try to pick my battles. She wants to wear a winter hat in 70 degrees, okay. She only wants to eat cookies all day, not okay. She wants to pick berries off a bush and stomp on them, I let her do that for 10 mins. She wants to run out alone in a parking lot, NO WAY. Boundaries.

High heels are generally worn by women for two reasons: 1) they're short or 2) they want to look sexy. Suri and other girls her age don't need them for either one.

If they''re prepubescent it''s horrible, not only are high-heels designed to help you show off your butt and legs, which a 9 year-old does NOT need to be doing, but they''re also not good for your feet and achiles tendon, and girls that age are still growing so I imagine that can''t be good for them.

What''s worse is the teeny-boppers (10-14 year olds or so) in mini-skirts, but you asked about heels so I won''t go off on a rant about that...

This is a prime example of why I get a little frustrated at times with PS, as much as I also enjoy it. I made sure I plastered IMO throughout my post, re-read it several times so I wouldn''t offend someone with a differing opinion,and made an effort not to come across like I was right and everyone else was wrong. Then I come on here and read a post that''s sarcastic and makes fun of me for my opinion. Honestly, I really don''t care if kids wear heels until their feet fall off, I was just offering an opinion on how it looks to me. I don''t know why some people feel it''s necessary to voice an opinion in a nasty way. Now I guess I''ll get a lot of comments on how I should develope a thick skin and not be so sensitive, but I really don''t care. I''m sure as hell not going to worry so much about the contents of my posts, since the same courtesy oftentimes isn''t extended to me.

Speaking as a woman who has over 150 pairs of shoes, there are some women (and I know I''m not alone here, where is star sparkle?) who see beautiful shoes as artwork you can take with you. I am short at 5''2, but I don''t wear heels to look taller, instead I am glad I am short so I don''t hover over people when I do actually decide to wear heels. Which really isn''t that often.

Here is a particular pair of shoes that I consider to be more sculptural than wearable, and my lovely husband does not find sexy at all:

FYI, there is a thread that is 35 pages long over in Shopping about SHOES. It''s been going on for almost two years and was begun in March 2008.

Guess you better not let yours have any crop tops, spandex, skirts, or open-back tops - all of which I had as a child. And lookie there, I am happily married with a baby on the way and have no history of streetwalking. Whouda thunk it?

Seriously, making the jump between shoes with a one or two inch heel to sexy streetwalker is just silly. Yes, I agreed from the beginning that it was wrong to let little girls walk around in heels all the time as it CAN cause issues with their feet down the road. (And that was the point to begin with.) But there is absolutely no reason to make assumptions about how a child will be as an adult just because of how they dress as a kid!

Steel I was simply trying to clarify some background information that was openly posted elsewhere on PS to try to understand TG/RH''s view on the situation. She called a three year old a street walker who would grow up to be a promiscuous teenager. I don''t think any adult who hadn''t had an experience like that while a teenager could come to that conclusion based on the small amount of information provided in this thread. Clearly from the posts that followed I stated my feelings on the subject and my intent behind the question.

I have two daughters. As they have grown older they have enjoyed clip clopping around the house in mummy''s high heels. Now they are 13 and 17 they always wear flat shoes. I think a lot of it is wanting to look like an adult while little. None of them are pregnant so far

If they had wanted to wear heels outside as children I would have said no. For a party..... maybe. Its all about appropriate dressing for the age they are.

Haven''t read the whole thread yet, but I think it is gross. Kids should be free to move as they wish and run and jump around. I don''t even like wearing heels and will not let any future daughters wear them until they are fully grown.

FYI Katie dances and supports dancing foundations (as anyone who watched the last couple of seasons of SYTYCD can attest to) so it would not surprise me in the least to find out that Suri is in dance classes.

This may very well be a case of the three year old throws tantrums when she can''t ''dress like mommy'' and instead of dealing with that, she may have just found the best, most supportive heels she could find and is dealing with it that way. Or it could just be for special occasions.

Speaking as a former temper tantrum thrower, they can be brutal.

Also, tropicgal, if you think she looks like a street walker in her 1.5 inch heels, I must be a full blown hooker in my 5 inch heels.

LOL! And giving in to the tantrums will really help them stop, right? hee hee

I'm with Whitby, Princess and Tacori on this one. Honestly that quote from Katie makes me want to laugh out loud! My daughter is the same age as Suri and while I may think she is amazing, and she certainly does have some strong opinions, I can't imagine referring to her as an 'amazing woman'. I think I also remember another quote in which she referred to Suri as an 'amazing artist'. While I'm sure Suri's finger painting is as wonderful as the violent explosions of colour my daughter likes to force onto paper with great vigor and enthusiasim, I still don't think it qualifies either as an 'amazing artist'.

I can understand the whole 'wanting to dress up like mummy' reasoning behind the heels, but I'm still not sure she needs to be wearing them out in public. Makes me glad I don't like heels (and I'm 5ft1 on a good day)

Yeah, gotta thritto that one. I am 5''9" and wear heels just because I like them. Most days I wear tennis shoes, but if I am dressing up time for some cute heels or flats (I do wear those as well) to complete the outfit!
