I've been looking for a pair of small sapphires for earrings for some time and just saw and ordered these from Fine Water Gems. I'm pretty sure they had been sold before. Just wondering if someone here saw them in person and returned them. Is there something I should be concerned about?

I think they will make very pretty earrings.

OP - I noticed that pair of sapphires on the Finewatergems site when they were first posted - but missed my chance to purchase them. While I do not know the specifics of why the pair is now posted again, perhaps the original purchase fell through or the purchaser decided the stones did not suit her purpose (didn't match a center stone perhaps, or maybe just not the shade of purple they sought) -- but there are many reasons why someone will return a purchase that have nothing to do with the quality of a stone. That said, Finewatergems has a wonderful return policy so if they don't measure up to your expectations or suit the project you intended them for... returns are easy enough.

Thanks guys!

Marymm - that's what I'm hoping for that the stones were returned for reasons other than their quality. It's good to hear that it would be easy to return them if necessary.

Just keep in mind that Finewater's pictures are ALWAYS lighter than the stone is in real life. If they were returned, that could have been part of the reason.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. They should be here tomorrow so I won't have to wait much longer.

Well, the stones arrived today and while they're beautiful, they're definitely quite a bit darker than in the picture. I'm going to be returning them, unfortunately.

That's disappointing. I hope you find something you like soon. I'm always on the lookout for pairs of stones for earrings, and I can tell you that it is one of the most frustrating searches ever. It took me months to find the stones for my Julia Kay Taylor earrings.

Good luck!

I'm always a little suspicious of photos of stones taken against a dark background, as it seems to somewhat "enhance" their color, or brighten them so to speak. While I think it's important for vendors to take flattering photos of their gems, there is a fine line between what is flattering/realistic and what will "sell the gem." In the end, vendors do not do themselves any favors by misrepresenting gem tone and/or saturation and/or hue by fancy photography. This is not directed specifically at Gary, but any gem photographer/vendor who aims to sell a gem.

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier, but I had those sapphires earlier, and unfortunately, had a similar opinion of them. I wonder if he's changed something about his photo setup, because all stones I've gotten from him before have been pretty spot-on.

Thanks for chiming in! It's good to know it's not just me or my monitor.

Watch out my little sapphires is rolling on the hills and its coming your way.
