Hi guys,

I live in Australia and am looking to getting a Leon Mege Adrianna ring made over the net - the gf likes the HW Micropave and I would like to get something very similar (but not a copy).

I have a quote from Leon re the ring already which I am happy with, but having trouble with buying the centre stone.

I know I want a 1.5ct / E / VS1 as minimums...

I also want the best cut / light performing stone I can get for my budget (approx USD$15k). Leon has suggested a D/VS1 he has available but I don''t want to trouble him with ASET images etc... does anyone know if he does that sort of thing?

After watching some GOG vids by Jon I really want to have great light performance, so need to be able to see ASET images as peace of mind as I will be buying the stone sight unseen like many of you on here! :)

My question is what style of cushion is the HW Micropave and is either H&A Square Cushion or GOG AV available from GOG similar in any way? or should i be looking at other options?

Thanks for your help guys!!

Angelainjapan's Harry Winston cushion. I could be wrong but it appears to be a modern cushion brillant.

I think either GOG choices will look stunning in a setting like this.

thanks charmy!

where would be best place online to source a well specced 1.5ct modern cushion brilliant?

i'm kind of moving away from the h&a square, as it looks a bit too "square"! :)

sorry should have put this in my original post:

Budget: $15,000 approx
Color: F and above
Clarity: VS2 and above
Carat Weight: 1.5Ct+
Lw Ratio = 1 - 1.05 (squarish)

A well cut cushion in that range is tough to find - there are several on PS looking for similar specs.

I woud recommend contact GOG or ERD. They will be able to help you.

Ditto.

I like the chunky look of the AVC myself.

If you decide to go with a modern facet cushion, be sure to check out Brian Gavin Diamonds!

Thanks, I will email BGD now

I'm still having trouble picking between modern vs chunky. I'm leaning towards chunky after watching some of those GOG vids, the chunky flashes look a lot bigger and eye catching than the moderns. Are the chunkys a more timeless style?

I guess my reservation is that the HW Micropave seems to use a modern cushion in the image as posted above, and it looks pretty cool!

I guess my question is, which style is more likely to be dated in 10 years... the modern or antique? are the antiques just a fad? (and I do realise this question is a bit silly considering the name "antique" hints at timelesness, but it seems like a lot of people on this board love the antique/chunkys at the moment)

Generally speaking, polls have shown that people on PS like chunky.

Antique Old-Mine Cushion cuts have been around for at least 350 years...
They have become intensely trendy in the last decade+ but have been considered a niche segment and sought after by jewelry connoisseurs for Centuries.

We dont have answers on the future of modern cushion style..., but we are knowledgeable about the Antique Cushion style of the past...

It looks like the HW comes in both chunky and modern cushions! I say if you like the AVC .. go for it!

ok, im kind of looking at this one at the moment:

G/VS2 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6819/

is there too much blue in the aset image? any other comments on this one ie. is this a good example of a avc or should i keep looking...

and are either of these two ok?

F/S1 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6929/

F/S1 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6933/

they''re outside of my minimums (F/VS2) but i dont have a lot of options atm
Of all three simply based on light performance I prefer 6819m it is a fine example of an AVC, really you can''t go wrong with any AVC but I like 6819 better due to no leakage or obstruction near the culet, the near perfect square outline and nice contrast under the table and elsewhere. I wouldn''t be worried about the blue in this particular stone on the 1,3,5,7 o-clock virtual facetrs and on the crown it just adds contrast.

6929 is more rectangular
6933 has a very slight bit of obstruction near the culet breaking up those big beautiful mains ever so slightly.

You might consider getting a video comparison but other than the LW ratio they are all quite similar.

thanks CCL, really appreciate your input

I too prefer the square shapes. Judging from the video, the G VS2 is a real looker!

I suggest calling or emailing Leon about your issues with diamond scanning. He has a lot of experience choosing the perfect stone for your particular ring. He would never recommend, or sell you a stone which he didnt approve of himself. All these diamond scans tell you is how much light "leakege" there is. GIA certificates tell you what you need to know in regards to the 4 c''s. Obviosly you would like to see your stone before purchasing it, and that''s where the trust factor comes in. Leon inspects every stone before recommending it to his clients. I also heard that he is a certified gemologist for 20 years and counting. Whatever you decide to do i wish you the best of luck.

Thanks Piere - are you referring to Jon from GOG though, instead of Leon?

No, I was refering to leon. Im not saying Gog is not good, I just think it''s easier to do things under one roof. I also saw on artofplatinum.com that Leon now offers a diamond concierge service. Leon''s pieces are hands down the best quality I have seen and getting him to help you choose the right diamond for your specific setting would be beneficial. Good luck

Piere, do you own a Leon piece? How did you come to see his stuff yourself?

I would love to see fine examples of cushions sourced by Leon Mege.

Can you prove your opinion with any examples? Did you purchase a diamond from him if so do you have any pictures?
