I had gotten this london blue topaz pear cabochon at a gem show last month. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it, but when I walked into jewelry class on Saturday with no projects in progress, it quickly became a ring.

It's not done quite yet - there's a lot of angry firescale on the band so it needs to be sanded down and repolished, and the stone wiggles in the bezel so I need to work on that more. I also might file down the backing so it's more under the twist, but I haven't quite decided on that yet. You can really see the firescale in the pictures - see how the edges of the ring band are whiter and shinier than the middle, that has a darker purplish tint? Gross! It all needs to be bright and shiny!
I was originally just going to leave an edge of the backing sticking out beyond the bezel, but I had all this skinny wire that I never know what to do with and so it became a twisted halo. Since I know you PSers will all be looking for the flaws, I will tell you right now two biggies: at 5 o'clock is where the two ends of the twisted wire meet up, and there's a weird little divot; and where the bezel is soldered together, I accidentally melted that solder a little more when I soldered it to the backing, so you can see the gap between the two edges.

And... hand shots!

I am pretty sure I picked this stone to work with the other day because it matched my nail polish.
