Longtime lurker, I have my first big deal gemstone purchase!

Hi! I've been lurking here for quite some time and I'm coming out of hiding with some questions regarding my first big purchase.

First, stats.

Umba Garnet
Via Dana/Grey at MCG
Weight: 4.10 carats
Size: 11.8 X 8.3 mm
Clarity Vvs2
Cut: Oval Barion
Color: Pink / Purple

Forgive me, I left for a out of town thing the very day my package arrived, we just got home tonight and I took these picture's at dusk with my mom's 7+ year old digital camera..... I absolutely plan on taking more tomorrow at some point during the actual day.


I am pretty much 100% certain this is going to be ring.
Given my finger size (5), my dilemma is whether or not to do side stones...
I am looking at a few pairs on gemselect but....eehhh...(and yes, I know that this is not an everyday ring )

Thoughts and opinions are welcome. Also, once again, these picture's kinda suck.

Promising pictures; I look forward to hand shots tomorrow. I'm guessing it is too large for side stones on a size 5 ring.

What a beautiful garnet!! I was eyeing several of the garnets during the recent sale but didn't bite...(mostly due to too many other recent purchases, lol)

Anyway, the cut and color are lovely! That's quite a nice large size IMO, and I think that on your smaller sized fingers it will look great all on its own. I don't think you would "need" sidestones, anyway. What type of metal are you thinking?

As much as part of me would love side stones I do agree, it's practically full finger coverage. Not that I'm complaining!

Its a gorgeous showoff in direct light, isn't it?!! You've chosen well to go with Daniel M, and I too think that unless you like big rings, side stones will be too much.

It's gorgeous. Now I'm going to have to add one of those the ever growing list of gems I "need".

I love the color and the size is really nice. I don't think it really needs side stones, so I guess it's your preference. Most of the rings I wear over and over again have the side stones but I think a really nice gem like you have would be gorgeous in a solo presentation.
