Look what Gary just put on his drop of new stones!

Wow, Bright-ice, CONGRATULATIONS! That is one gorgeous stone!

I think it'd look great with the the French cuts... or by itself... or with green eggs and ham! :appl:

Congratulations! By the time I got the e-mail from Gary, the red spinel was gone. I'm not surprised, being a red stone lover myself.

I'm sure a good designer (which I most certainly am not) could come up with a design to use those french cuts. :cheeky:

I jumped right on the computer when I got the e-mail and thought WOW, my gut just took over.
I was thinking since the stone is square that a halo could be made without a problem. I will talk to VC on Monday. Maybe they won't be sold :nono:

What a lovely stone bright ice! I think it would look fantastic with the french cuts but for some reason I had thought those sold (or maybe it was a different parcel?) Either way, I'm sure it will look great no matter what you do with it!

No, I checked and they are still available.

Bright Ice, I saw this was sold when I clicked on the link in my email. It looks like a real beauty. Congratulations. :appl:

I did not have the time to check my emails and by the time I clicked on Gary's link and saw this spinel, it was sold. It looks beautiful in his photos... hopefully you'll post pictures.

(Never heard about French cuts... Live and learn! Thank you for the info!)

It was gone when I had a look too. Please post pics when you get it. I have a feeling it's going to be really pretty.

Gorgeous! Bright Ice, I would really love to see your entire collection in one place! :appl:

That would be quite the statement ring,Bright Ice, if you go for it! Wow - hope your chat w VC goes well and they also think it would be amazing!

Wait until you get it before thinking about designs - what if you don't like it??????! I know you've been disappointed with a number of your purchases recently so I'd hold on if I were you! I've fallen into the trap of mentally and in some cases even physically working on designs and then the main stone arrives and ....................... oh no! :(sad

I checked his e-mail 23min after I got it and I was like I bet the red spinel is gone and it is...
Congrats on the stone and can't wait to see the final bling!

Thanks for the advice. I know you are right and I won't make a move on the french cuts until I see the stone.

It's a small stone so if it's a keeper I will need to come up with a design that adds to the finger coverage as well as makes the stone pop.

I was surprised you had gone for a small stone (smaller than you normally buy) which is why I also urged caution. If you generally like a big look it can be difficult to adjust to smaller stones and you have to be creative to get a look you're happy with.

Ditto. This stone will feel positively microscopic compared to your last few purchases. I hope you won't get too much of a size shock. It is very easy to make the mental move upwards in size but not quite as easy to downsize the stone.

I know both you and LD are right about he size issue. Maybe it's going to be so pretty that I can overlook the size :cheeky:

There's probably enough of those french cuts to do a halo and go down the shank a bit if they are doable. Otherwise a double pave halo would do the trick to oomph it up in size.

I'm also betting on it being so pretty that size will become irrelevant :) Please post pics when you get it!

It's gorgeous, Bright Ice! I hope you adore it in person!

Yes, I'd agree as well. With a single frenchie halo, you'd be looking at around a 9mm square.

Now, that's a size I'd be just fine with, but you tend to go with BIG beauties!

I bet it's going to be gorgeous though!

Lovely stone!!! I was so disappointed when I scrolled down and saw the sold sign but glad that someone from PC was able to get it. Will you use 14k yellow or platinum?

I will have to put some thought into what metal once I get it and decide if it's a keeper.

Since I don't get Gary's e-mails, would somebody please tell me the specs on this stone!!!!? You are all discussing it as if everyone reading this thread knows all about it. I have no idea what size it is...or anything else about it. Please tell all!

.80ct 5.2 x 5.2 x 3.4 VS stop light red spinel. Open the Finewater link above in my original posting.

I just had a light bulb moment. What if I put 2 .40/50 cushions for a three stone ring? Now that would give me some finger coverage :lickout:

OH YEAH!!! That's some sweet coverage FOR SURE!!! I hope you go with that decision, if keeping the stone, because BOY, I'd love to see that ring finished!!! :lickout:

Or it might inspire you to try something totally different.

That stone is beautiful, bright ice! I can't wait to see photos after you receive it. I'd set it with black spinels and diamonds for a geometric, art deco look.

Having sidestones, even good sized ones almost the same size as the center stone will make an impact. The visual will be different than where the sides are a lot smaller than the center stone but still lovely while providing finger coverage. I don't like the idea of the halo stones being almost the same size as the center stone. It overpowers the center stone and can have the effect of making it look smaller than it really is.

Forgot a reminder to check out the spinel under fluorescent lighting. This is critical, at least to me, because spinels are notorious for either blacking out, browning out or showing a hideous orange modifier under that lighting condition.

I haven't had time to take proper photos but grabbed one, although it doesn't really show how it looks IRL.

With a .56 and .59 G/H OEC. Horrible bathroom lighting in the gem paper.
