Ooooh yummy! I love it and nearly 4ct for less than $1K is a complete BARGAIN!!! :appl:

Wonderful color! Very unusual!

I loooooooove it!!

When are you expecting this new one? I'll wait to comment after you receive the stone and are able to compare it to the vendor's pictures.

Can't wait to hear your impressions of it!
It looks totally yummy :)

I would double check with Jason re heat only - often labs say "indications of heat treatment," which doesn't mean that the stone has not been treated in other ways, just that it shows that its definitely been heated. I know this is not necessarily what you want to hear, but it has happened to me twice that I was sold corundum as "heat only" and when it came back from a lab that had the equipment to test more aggressively, it came back as diffused.

Jason is very honest and wouldn't knowingly sell as stone that had been more invasively treated unless he disclosed it. I just think in this circumstance, he may not know. I certainly hope I'm not, but I may be flamed for being honest and not whole heartedly trusting the limited testing of that lab. I know a good friend of mine on this board suffered a lot when they spoke their mind to help out those buying corundum, despite nothing but the best intentions. :(sad

Nice! That colour really appeals to me, too! Very nice - and what are your setting plans for it? It will be amazing in a white metal (at least, that's what I'd do with it) and any other stones to join it?

Fun!!

minousbijoux: No flaming here, and I certainly hope no one else does! I appreciate your candor, and I have emailed Jason to ask for further details. I know he's a reputable vendor, so we'll wait and see what he says

Chrono: Your waiting to comment sounds ominous. I know you're one of the most respected posters here, and I'd value your opinion. What are your fears for the stone based on the pictures?

Thanks everyone for your comments! It'll probably be a few more days before I get it. Oh and no plans for setting it at this time. First it has to be pretty in person and pass the treatment-hurdle, and then I'd probably hold on to it for a bit before setting it since my tsavorite ring project takes precedence, budget-wise.

Eek...sorry for coming off as mysterious and ominous. That is not my intent at all. The only reason I wrote that is because I don't think those are Jason's pictures but his source's pictures, of which, I don't know how accurate that might be. Based on the two pictures alone, it seems a bit dark and has a very small window but that's about all I can tell because of the huge table glare in the first picture. None of two are deal breakers at all. All that remains now is to see if it colour shifts indoors to some yucky colour or a colour acceptable to you, and also if the colour remains open or has a tendency to close up.

Okay, Chrono - thanks for the explanation! We'll see how it looks in person. I would not accept a window at all unless it closed completely with setting, so that may or may not end up being a dealbreaker. Is there an easy way to tell if setting a stone will close its window? I'm thinking by putting aluminium foil behind/around it and seeing if it's still visible. Or maybe just cloth b/c foil is so shiny and might reflect light back in a deceptive way?

As far as treatments, Jason wrote back and I don't think he would mind at all if I share what he wrote. He says he is "100% certain" that the stone has had heat only and not further enhancement like diffusion, etc. He says this lab is not well known in the west but is 1 of the top 5 labs in the world and is the only lab in Thailand that has the equipment necessary to test for BE, and that every sapphire going through that lab is tested for it. It's also a member of CIJBO (so is GIA, for example).

So... since Jason is considered such a reputable vendor, I'm quite satisfied with this info for now and then will wait and see how the stone looks in person and go from there!

Put the stone between your fingers to see if you can spot the window. If you can't, it's good to go.
