Looking at a ring purchase

I am looking to purchase a ring and was checking the secondary market for a deal that might increase my purchasing power. I have come across a ring in which the design and diamonds seem like a good deal, but would like some advice from people who know much more that I.

The main diamond is a Square Mod Brilliant Cut, 5.55 x 5.31 x 3.89 mm. It is 1 carat, G color and SI(2) polish and symmetry are both good. Diamond is set in a white gold setting and has other smaller diamonds around it. This is an IGI certified diamond.

I believe the seller will accept $2700 for this diamond and the other ring.

While I know this is not an absolute great diamond, I like the setting and could not see the inclusions with a naked eye, although they were evident with a loop.

Thoughts?

Its hard for us to tell you without photos if its a good buy or not. Is she particular on the type of stone?
I'm sure you could get her a pear or marquise or something that isn't second hand and be around a ct and under 3k

Here is a picture of the ring, I think I did this correctly.ring1_34.jpg

Maybe a better picture.

Hmm the pic is a little small. Is 3k your budget? And dis she tell you what she liked or are you going in blind ;)

Yes, 3k is around the budget and going somewhat blind. Just using what I think she might like knowing her styles.

Knowing her style do you think she might like something a little more unique like a pear or marquise ( maybe even sett e/w) or an emerald cut

I would not think a pear or marquis, maybe an emerald. The pear, just don't see her like that too much. The marquis I think would get caught on too much, she is an active person. The emerald, maybe, would depend on the setting...

Oval? Or any of those ( oval marquise or emerald ) set sideways?. Is she very unique or more classic or trendy?

Sense you know her best, here are just a few ideas. Dont look at the ctw of the stone, but rather the detentions, some look larger than others do for the same ctw, also, keep in mind if you say your a ps member and pay with a wire transfer you get about 5% off

now before you get concerned about color consider that if this were EGL certified it might be an H or even higher, so dont like the color. A well cust stone will looks brighter than a a poorly cut stone of a brighter color

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Emerald-cut/0.76-carat-F-color-IF-clarity-sku-165571 (maybe)

or this classic round in a nice halo, notice how the SIZE of the stone compares to the size of yours

And i know you said you didnt think a marquise would work, but if she is a little more adventurous, i think this would be a great
option, and be protective if she is a little more active, and look very large on the finger. BUT this is a wildcard, so only if you think she loves to be unique and stand out and have something truly "her"

looks like it would be eye clean

Thanks for the links and the suggestions.

I am looking through them seeing some really nice diamonds. I guess I was looking at the whole package verse just a solitaire ring.

I take it from the responses that you don't think the ring I post is that great of a deal... At least that is what I am getting as I look through these links.

TBH, I really dislike the whole package, with the double curved channel set princess bands.

It is a somewhat thick set, delicate and dainty is in right now. Not everyone wants curved bands, or to wear 3 of them. With the channel setting, there is a lot of metal. And channel-set princess melee at that... It's kind of a 90s look.

It's only a good deal if its beautiful and what she wants. Don't buy jewelry just for the sake of a deal.

Its understandable to want to get the "whole thing" all at once. But she may not want a diamond wedding band, she may want a plain one, she might want a rose gold one, or one that doesnt have that "bend" to it. and if she WANTS the look like that, its easy to do a year or two down the line. BUT you want to have a well cut stone first and foremost

As for the one you posted, we just think you can do better for your budget. And a engagement ring alone is really all you need. No reason to concern yourself with wedding band just yet

I don't think that your first choice is a good pick for an active person. It's a lot of finger real estate and possibly delicate corners. Something more unique in the stone shape and simpler in the setting is more sophisticated but also leaves room for her to choose a blingy band if she wants more sparkle. We will help you find that wow factor within your budget.
I like the idea of an oval halo!

the Oval halo does look sort of nice, will have to study that one for awhile. Thanks for the comments on the active and how much real estate the other one I was looking at had, good comments.

OK, been looking at the different pages and found this on the Solomon page. They don't show pictures of the diamonds like the other pages so was wondering what anyone thought of this combination?

Always appreciate the advice.

you cant pick an oval without seeing a picture of it. Ovals have something called "bowties" its a black bowtie looking area in the middle of the oval that is caused by light blackage (probably from the wearers head when they look at it)

ignore the inclusions, just notice how some have that thick black line, and the other does not, you want one with the most minimal bowtie as possible

Wow, never would have know that. Thanks. The comparison makes it stand out!

So the third one looks pretty nice, Is that considered a good deal? I was hoping for a bit bigger and like the ring from Solomon, but will definitely go with quality over quantity.

Can you please tell us more about her, job, tastes, brands, quirks; you went from princess solitaire with channel bands to oval halo is a rather sharp turn in direction.

Tatted Suicide Girl, dental hygienist, hipster, etc etc...

what i would do is contact good old gold. They dont have a lot of ovals on there site but thats because they look at your desired specs and budget and then pull some in for you, its really the best way to pick a fancy cut.

take a look though these settings, see if you like any, then subtract it from your 3k budget, and then you know what your budget is for your oval, give that to GOG, tell them you want a G color or better eye clean oval as large as you can get it

i was just using it as a comparison, i think its overkill on the clarity, GOG could probably find a bigger one

So sorry I would spend my money on the stones ideal cut size doesn't matter cut does. The ring you showed us as way too much going on and hides the stone probably because it is not as good a stone as your girl would like. Listen to the advice the others have given. Settings can always be changed spend your money a really nice stone even if it is less than 1 carat.

haha ok ok so far so good.

How does she dress, really dressed up or more of a simple jeans and a tee, or something else? does she wear a lot of jewelry? and if so what color metal is it. Also, does she wear clothes that a really classic, or does she like to be a little bit more unique? stand out or fit in?

Im still thinking oval, but maybe an oval in a bezel??
