Looking for a 1.5-2.0ct square cushion sapphire!

Ah, I see. I think it was more that I didn't phrase my question very well, since I didn't specifically ask about regular office CFLs. Anyhow, they won't be able to tell me more now, since they were super quick in shipping the stone out. Within 12 hours of placing the order, I tracked it in Fedex and saw that it had already gone from Thailand to Canada! It looks like there's a "clearance delay" on the package, but it still says I should receive it by Wednesday, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

When I do get it in, I'll be sure to bring the stone to my office and see how it looks there.

That's quick! I hope it's the one for you to end the search.

I'm dying to see this stone! :twirl:

So is it the one?

Yes please update us!!!

More than 2 weeks and no news? This doesn't sound promising...

Hi all,

Sorry for being MIA. I had planned on posting about the stone, but as soon as I saw it in person, I was very disappointed and knew it wasn't the one. It was a deep blue, but it had too much purple for me. It also didn't really sparkle. At best, under bright lights or spotlights, it glowed but it didn't have that fierce sparkle that I was looking for.

I was still going to share my photos and comments after I had a few days to process my thoughts, but then I got tremendously turned off by the actions of some anonymous PS users. I'm not going to share any other details about the situation or my next steps (let's just say it was a lesson learned), but maybe I'll have an update in a week or two.

For now, here's a video of the AJS stone for all the PSers who have helped me along the way (you know who you are - thank you!). The purple doesn't show up as much in the video as it does in person though. https://vimeo.com/49586653

Oh emcee I am so sorry this wasn't the one for you! I know you were really hoping it would be, as were the rest of us. :((
Let me guess.... if you brightly light the stone from the sides does it appear more saturated with a more medium blue? Now that I see your video and then compare it to the vendors it looks like that is what was done. Why can't vendors just video there stones in realistic lighting environments!!!!!!!! Grrrr I am so angry!

Don't fret, we will find another stone!

Sorry you are having issues with some PSers. I hate to hear this as I am very proud of this community.

Hi Emcee > sorry to hear that it wasn't the sapphire you were hoping for. Your comment about being disappointed with some anonymous PSers has me concerned. Should us posting be watching out for something? I would hate for someone to take away some of my top choice sapphires. :angryfire:

Emcee, sorry to hear that isn't the one for you. I understand that 'sinking' feeling when you realize you put a few too many eggs into one basket - or at least that's how I felt with my Gemfix stone/disappointment. I really hope you're able to find 'the one' sooner than later!

And I'm disappointed to hear about the actions of some fellow PSers. If you're reading this right now, whatever you did, SHAME ON YOU!!! :nono:

Anyway, I hope things will be looking up for you now. *hugs* :))

Aww emcee, I'm so sorry it wasn't the one. I will keep my fingers crossed that you have better luck in the future.

Thanks guys! You guys are part of the PS community that I am eternally grateful for ::)

Let's just say that it came to my attention that multiple PSers tried to steal one of the stones that I had posted about recently and also tried to sabotage my reputation/relationship with the vendor. Add that experience onto the fact that I lost out on that cushion Gemfix stone after posting about it here a while back and I was pretty furious. For a while I decided to abandon PS altogether (hence why I never posted an update).

Sebas, you should be OK since your stones are from a B&M store and not a PS vendor so you don't really have to worry about lurkers on this forum finding/stealing your stones. But for everyone else that is working with a PS vendor, think hard before you post one of your finds or even one of your next steps. Yes, you will get some great feedback from some of the resident experts, but if it's a good stone, poachers will be after it at well. It helps if you have the stone reserved in advance, but even then, that won't stop the lurkers from doing everything they can to steal it from you. Just my 2 cents!

Emcee > boy that sucks! I just don't see how one would feel good about it. Definitely good to reserve ahead of time and to be discreet about it. We just have to use the forum intelligently.

Really? Like... really?! Who would ever even THINK about doing that? Especially trying to ruin your relationship with the vendor. That's just ridiculous.

How disappointing. I can see why you shied away from PS for a while after that experience. Make sure you come back to show off 'the one' once you find it. We're very excited for you.

This!

Sorry it wasn't the stone for you and sorry that you had to experience the lame actions of others. Your perfect stone is out there though, I know it!

Thanks all! I'm keeping my fingers crossed too ::)

Emcee > I hope you have better luck. I talked to Ron over the past few weeks and he hasn't been very helpful about sending a hand shot or video and he hasn't been very polite (but maybe that's a cultural difference). Maybe the vendor just doesn't have in stock what we are looking for at the moment. Obviously we don't want to be a pain, but I think it is better for everyone (vendor and customer) to see the sapphire under daylight and different lighting conditions. If they are all words and no show than it makes you wonder. That said, I sympathize that it might be just one person handling everything.

Hm, that's actually pretty surprising...Ron has always been very polite and helpful. He didn't give me any handshots, but he did put together a video for me and he described the stone in different lighting conditions. He mentioned to me that he's from Canada and his English has always been impeccable so I don't think there's really a language barrier issue. I know he was away at a jewelry show in Hong Kong for a while, so maybe you just caught him at a bad time. It could be worthwhile to ask again?

I'm so sorry for the trouble but very pleased you came back. I'm also sorry this one didn't work out for you, it really did seem to tick the boxes. I have been following your thread but didn't feel I had anything much to offer so haven't posted. I'm keeping an eye out though ;)) Chin up! We'll find it!

So sorry that things turned out disappointing for you in more ways than one. I understand that the sapphire looked very promising in the video and we all thought the search was finally over. Overlighting any stone by a vendor to brighten it serves little purpose; it might get the stone seen / ordered but what is the point when the customer sees it in person and returns it? Don't give up hope. The right stone for you is still out there.

Lately, the incidence of stone snatching seems to be increasing, hence you'll often read of advise to reserve the stone before posting the picture or requesting opinions. However, for lurkers to continue trying and even bad-mouthing to a vendor is going too far. Do not allow the actions of a few to sour your experience on PS. To do so, is to allow them to "win" and further encourage such rude action.

Oooooh This makes me furious!!!! PS is better than this! The people who feel this kind of activity acceptable need to find another forum to pollute and get the heck out of this one!!! :angryfire:

It makes me hesitate to post stones that I want to recommend to you in fear that someone might try and snatch it. Maybe I could ask the vendors I recommend to hold the stone for a day until I get your feedback on it?

I am so sorry emcee! Chrono is right we can't let them win!!!

~Justin

ORZ,Can say nothing with the people doing that!

Hope you can finally find "the one"

Thanks all!

Justin, yeah I'm generally a very trusting person, but I've gotten a bit jaded now and it seems impossible to post stones on PS for opinions without having to worry about the consequences. I was thinking (and I'm hoping this isn't completely against PS rules) that if I shared my contact info here, maybe I could get you and some other trusted PSers to email me and we can converse there instead?

Hah, I guess that didn't work so well

emcee -- i was nabbed also after a similar attempt. Sorry mods we didn't know the rules!

Oops... was just trying to help a sista out!

Lol, thanks lin_ny. I've passed a message to you through the grape vine. You'll see ;)

Hey lovely PSers,

So it's been a long long time since I last gave an update and I wanted to let you all know that I finally found my stone! I went through another PS vendor without luck and ended up going back to the 3.07 oval that I posted here a few months ago. The stone isn't anything like what I originally envisioned (as you can see in this thread's subject, I was looking for a 1.5-2 ct cushion), but I'm thrilled!

Some details about my stone:
- 3.07 carat oval
- 7.16 x 8.40mm
- unheated
- suuuper sparkly and saturated blue compared to all of the other sapphires I have seen

Here is the video that I posted previously: https://vimeo.com/48348119

The stone is from Dan at www.gemcuts.com but I met him at an Intergem show. I can't stress how outstanding he was to work with, even as he went to Thailand and came back with even more inventory to show me. His prices were also outstanding since he sells at wholesale prices. His inventory is not posted on the website though, so if anyone out there is looking for a sapphire (especially unheated ones), I encourage you to contact him.

Anyway, now I'm onto the next step of figuring out my setting! I decided to go with a halo setting from ERD and I just got some CADs in. Let me know what you think of the stone and check out my other thread (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sapphire-halo-engagement-ring-got-cads.181463/) to see the CADs!

Lastly, I wanted to give a heartfelt thank you to all of the outstandingly helpful PSers who have helped me along the way. I would never have my stone without you! You're all amazing 3root>
