Looking for a 1.5-2.0ct square cushion sapphire!

The color is beuatiful the it's a great size! It'll be a perfect ring stone. I've never heard of the vendor before. Another one to keep on the radar.

That looks to be a knockout stone. Like IK, I have not heard of the vendor either. If they are wholesale only, how was it that you were able to meet them at Intergem? Were they in the retail area, and if so, did he simply offer you a wholesale price even though you're not trade? TIA! :wavey:

Sorry that happened to you. Thankfully you found a stone you like. Congratulations!

Thank you all! :D

Dan explained their business model to me and hopefully I don't get it wrong, but essentially their main business is in wholesale with local jewelers. However, they exhibit at gem shows once or twice a year and they sell directly to the public at that point (at wholesale prices), even though that's not their normal business. I just made a point of keeping in touch with them to see if any new inventory came in. Funny enough, the stone I ended up getting was the one I fell in love with at the show. Kinda wish I had just bought it then and saved myself another two months of searching  Ah well, I know it's a good thing that I waited and exhausted all other options so I never have to think that I settled in choosing this stone.

This! You are absolutely right - now you know its The Stone! :appl: :appl:

Oh, and thanks for explaining their business model.

Absolutely stunning stone. Many many congratulations. I'm a believer in fate and I reckon that you've got the best stone and the one worth waiting for. Whomever tried to snatch the previous stone from under you - well shame on them and let's hope that you got the better end of the deal.

As an aside, it's becoming more frequent that lurkers will try and nab stones posted and given good feedback. Wherever possible we urge people to reserve stones to stop this from happening. Anyway, alls well that ends well for you!

Just wanted to chime in and say congrats finding your stone!!! It looks stunning. Just glowy and gorgeous.

I've learned a lot about sapphires catching up on this thread, thanks for sharing your journey! I'm sorry to hear about lurkers nabbing stones, but I think you ended up with a dream of a stone.

It's a beautiful sapphire which will be worn and passed on with pride. The saturation is incredibly rich. Sounds like the the vendor is very much like Nomad; wholesale only to jewellers but when at shows, they will sell to the public.

Emcee > I am so happy for you. It really does look gorgeous. I have not seen an oval blue sapphire so beautiful! Congratulations!

Thank you so much, everyone!! It really is so great to know that my stone has the PS CS seal of approval  I can't wait to finally get this ring on my finger!

ETA that Dan at GemCuts would still sell a stone to anyone that contacts him, it's just a bit of a conflict of interest for him to post his full inventory online. So if there's anything in particular that you're looking for, I would highly recommend that you send an inquiry through.

yay!

So beautiful and what a treasure hunt. Look forward to seeing the finished project.

Emcee I'm thrilled you found a stone you love - it is a beauty! The color is amazing. The CADs of your ring also look amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi Emcee... a quick question. Did you ever see Dan's 2.57ct oval blue unheated sapphire in person? He recommended that one to me as being very similar to your 3.09ct sapphire (he doesn't have anything 3+ct). If you have, I was wondering what your impression was since I would love to find a sapphire just like yours (3+ct would have been a perfect size, but I'll take the 2.57ct if it is similar in color and sparkle).

Thanks!

Hi sebas,

Yes, I did see it! The 2.57 was very pretty and it was a very close contender. I nearly went with that one since I was technically hoping for a 2-ish carat stone. I would say that it was very slightly less saturated than my 3.07 (or is it 3.09...I keep forgetting) but it was still a very saturated sapphire overall. It was quite brilliant as well, maybe just a touch less brilliant than my 3. I have many photos and even a video of the 2.57 on my home computer. I will try to post them here for you tonight. ::)

That would be great! Any issues with windows, extinction, inclusions? Thanks so much! :-)

Hi Emcee, I talked with Dan. It turns out that the sapphire is almost round (1.17 length:width) and a bit deep so it doesn't look big enough for the east-west setting I had in mind. So don't worry about posting the videos. But thank you so much for offering to post them. :-)

No worries, Sebas! I have the photos on my computer anyway, so take a peek at them here. The 2.57 is on the left whereas my 3.07 is on the right. The center stone is a 2.00 cushion.

Yeah, the 2.57 is nearly the same length to width ratio as my stone. For me, I definitely preferred something more round than oval, so it worked out perfectly for what I was looking for. If you don't mind me asking, what setting are you going for? I can't wait to see your final sapphire and your finished ring! I hope it won't take you too much longer.

ETA: Argh, the pictures have mysteriously rotated when I uploaded them here. The 2.57 is the one by my pinky, so in the first photo it is on the bottom and in the second photo it is on the right. Sorry it's so confusing!
