Looking for advice on very first purchase.

Got the pun. Distracts has been around long enough to know how posting stones on PS sometimes move them quicker than one might expect. Sometimes lurkers jump on it right away (homework and guesswork done for them as a safe purchase) and sometimes someone who has been mulling about it feels compelled to get it sooner rather than later because the stone has been "outed".

I am not enthused about the GemSelect Malaya garnet. Too flesh coloured for me.

Etsy vendors will do a rose gold + silver mix but the eBay vendors won't. (List from the vetted Etsy list but Janish is removed because she only deals with high kt gold).

The MC pear Distracts posted is a good buy if you don't mind the shape. The colouration is very padparadscha-like with stronger saturation than the GemSelect oval spinel. A lovely mix of orange and pink.

Ah, I see what you mean with the garnet. Quite a difficult gem to purchase then to get the colour quite right would you say?

Carmen, that is just beautiful. If that was on the eye candy thread (I went through all 69 pages lol) then I definitely would have stopped to gawk at that. Wonderful sapphire colour as well. How does the colour compared for you now it's set in the ring to when it was loose?

Distracts, yes the colour of that pear is amazing although I'm not quite ready to work with pears as I have a few projects in mind already. But the colour is definitely something to compare others to.

More and more I've been thinking Daniel M might be my man for this, or at least the bracelet and necklace I want to do. Thinking of recycling my diamond for one of them.
I'll checked them all out but I haven't looked at past pieces, so I'll do that. If I show them a ring style I like, do they have free reign to copy the design in some way?

Oh, and people will hard a hard time buying that spinel seeing as it's on it's way to MEEEEEEE! :D I just couldn't let it go considering my reaction and the price. My first ever gem purchase and it's a little beaut :) Well chuffed and can't wait to get it in my hands! Not 100% sure what it's destined for, but having a play around with it will help me decide I'm sure.

Do you mean a ring style Daniel M has done in the past? If so, they have free reign to reproduce it either exactly or with slight modifications.

It is hard to tell, but malaia garnets are simply not cheap, especially in the size pictured. If you want a not so nicely cut stone, may be you can fit it within 100 dollars... But the precision cut would be more than 200, and I think quite a few garnets are in 2K range.

Congratulations Nexi on your first gem purchase. Hope it looks as good IRL :appl:
