My bf and I went shopping this weekend at Shane Co. We've only looked at a few locations to check out cut and different settings. I've read here time and time again buying online will get you a better value but I guess we are both scared because it's such a large purchase.

Anyways, I've really liked the FLY and FVY diamonds in a cushion cut but asschers in a near colorless color are very fetching. Until yesterday I was unable to see an asscher in person. They only had one that was .95 ct. I'm not sure if the size threw me off or the cut was bad but you couldn't see the steps/windmills clearly. I'm guessing I would need a pretty clear 1.5 for me to even start to achieve the look I want... which will be outside of the budget.

After that disappointment we moved to ovals. I love Blake Lively's e-ring so much. I'm well aware I won't get a 7ct pink Diamond but a 1+ in a rose gold setting with pave band is beautiful.

So they showed us multiple ovals. It was our first time seeing loose diamonds. I was impressed with how much hands on time we got with the diamonds (looking at color and inclusions). The end result was a g colored 1.03 oval with vs1 clarity, and apparently excellent cut, although we never discussed lab reports. The price was around 5200 for the Diamond.... which I believe is reasonable. Their customer service was awesome and they really helped educate us but after coming home and looking around on here I've read mixed things about Shane co. Any thoughts?

It seems they play up how Diamond grading is subjective and the only scientific aspect is the weight of the Diamond since the rest is more or less opinion. While I do sort of agree, being new to looking at diamonds is really confusing! So many variables! And as they are not really a rare resource the resell market is terrible . I guess I'm more worried about way over paying for an okay Diamond when we could do better.

We are looking to spend no more than 7500 all in. We plan to meet with a Diamond dealer that did a family members ring within the next month. These recent trips were just too narrow down styles and cuts but Shane cos guarantees and flexibility really attracted us.

Looking for ovals 1-1.50, good to Excellent cut, f-h color

It is IMPORTANT to discuss lab reports. GIA and AGS are your safest choices for the general consumer. Anything else is usually a jeweler's tool for marketing.

Check out the online prices of ovals to get a ball park figure so that you can gauge and have a feel for prices before you commit to anything.

B&M shopping tend to have higher prices but the upside is that it enables you to see the diamond physically before purchase.

Thanks for the info. I do agree lab reporting is important to make sure you aren't paying more for an inferior stone. I'll have to dive back into that one if we decide to look further at Shane Co. It sounds like some stones have a report while others don't. Anyone have experience buying from them?

I think once we gain more knowledge buying online will be an option. I'm not concerned about the investment of a diamonds more than what type of quality we are getting.

Does anyone have an oval set in rose gold? I'd love to see some examples. I think the asscher will be outside of our price range for the size needed. I'm still partial to the work diamonds by Lauren does with colored diamonds.

Seems like Blake L's ring is set in yellow or rose gold...

Ovals are super leaky, I would not set it in colored gold for fear of the color coming through the diamond.
