I recently acquired this large stone and was told it is a 'very light pink, emerald cut Topaz'. It measures 19 x 15 x 13mm. It is truly 'very light pink' and at times looks white/clear. I have no idea if the emerald cut is of good quality, if the color is good or not and no clue what this thing could be worth. Any information would be greatly appreciated. (Sorry the pictures aren't real great, don't have the best camera.)

Hi Lily, I don't know if you're still around or not, but I'll try to answer some questions.

Where did you buy it from? Does it come with any lab reports or certifications?

Light pink is a naturally occurring color in topaz. But it's actually pretty rare.

The emerald cut does not look bad, but it has a window in the middle.

Can I ask how much you paid?

Thanks for the response FrekeChild!

There is no paperwork on this stone as it was acquired through a family estate.

I understand what you're saying about the window. The bottom actually looks like the attached drawing.

I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet. I kind of like it; it's so big and different. Any input might help me decide. :))

Well I'd set it! Is it something you'd feel comfortable wearing? I can imagine it with some step cut tapered bullets, but that's just what I envision for emerald cuts automatically! Tapered baguettes would be cheaper, however.

EDIT: I'd venture a guess that it's natural, but I'd take it to a gemologist to make sure. There are pink irradiated topaz on the market, but they are BRIGHT NEON pink that looks unnatural. Typically topaz is irradiated to the bright blues because that's what the market dictates. This piece was lucky to escape that. :naughty:

If it's so light pink to the point of being colorless, my guess would be that it's natural? I mean, there's no point treating or coating a stone to get that barely obvious color.

I think this would make a lovely pendant, maybe with rose gold if you want to strengthen the pink! You could put a reflector at the back to close up the window, maybe?
