Looking for *Unique* ring - AVC, POH? And Rose gold halo

AVCs tend to sell quickly and you never know if the one you have your eye on will be around for a minute or a month. Inventory changes over pretty quickly, so I don't think you are out of luck (it's happened to us like a million times). I think it's a great idea that you will be going to GOG to see these stones in person. Might as well look at an AVR while you there there just for kicks and giggles. In my opinion, the setting that you posted does not scream "unique" to me, but that is just because halos are really popular right now. It is very beautiful and an AVC would look beautiful in it, but I just would not call it "unique."

I agree - but I'm just the messenger. I'm basing my entire search on the original rose gold picture I posted, and the fact that she likes cushions and asschers. That's all I have.

Can you set a POH on its side? Wonder how that would look?

Not sure about an AVR. I think at this point it's between the POH and some other AVC (as again, the original one I posted got sniped on me). My optuions now seem to be a super high color (D,E,F) but lower ct weight (1ct) or a VERY warm color with a higher weight. Will see when I go to GOG in person.

Now: If I go w/ the POH above, can anybody guide me in the right direction as to how to set it in a halo without it looking like a princess OR a round? A halo that is octagonal in shape maybe? How about prongs? I'd like to avoid bezel is possible.

Why do you want to avoid a bezel? My bezel is AWESOME - follows the shape of the stone. If you're worried about "darkening" a stone, the POHs are so well cut it's not an issue. If you're worried about covering up some of the stone and making it look smaller, the bezel actually makes it look bigger.I tried on a rose gold Bev K ring almost the same as mine but round prior to purchasing my ring. It was stunning and the diamond looked fantastic. I feel a bezel truly shows off that POH shape. There are POHs on PS set in prongs within a halo and it really doesn't do the shape justice.

I have somebody familiar with my GF's tastes telling me not to go Bezel. My GF has never specifically stated to this person no bezel, but she thinks better off not. However, I'm not sure how to set it otherwise showing the octagonal shape of the stone.

You may want to involve her at this point. My tastes changed as I tried stuff on and looked at different shaped stones. I wasn't keen on the bezel until I saw one done right with a halo.

That' not an option - she's always told me how she wouldn't want to do the whole:

1) Go "casually" look at rings together
2) Get "surprised" two months later with a proposal

Nothing against anybody who does that, but we specifically decided not to go that route.

Hey all,

Been lurking here quite a bit. I have some "guidance" on what I should be looking for, but the rest is up to me now. I'm humbly requesting some help.

What I know:

-She likes "Different" - something unique
-No rounds, no princess (as they are so common)
-Likes Cushions and Asschers

-Wants a rose gold setting; solitaire, halo w/ some accents down the side of the ring. Something like this, except diamonds. Preference is a diamond that is not raised above the halo, but flush with the halo: http://indulgy.com/post/aA6DVzApG1/this-is-my-ringhopefully-im-in-love-rose-gol

My preferred vendor would be GOG as I have done business with them in the past. Been in contact w/ them already but I want to see what you guys think:

Had them put this together, and then narrowed it down to the AVC & POH

She hates princess, but I think the only similarity between a princess and a princess of hearts is the name. But that's just my opinion. So I narrowed it down to:

If POH, considering this setting, but it does sit a little bit above the halo: http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER7266W44JJ

Anyway, just looking for some feedback, thoughts & recommendations from you guys.

Hey YopeyOne,

The specs you laid out are EXACTLY what I would have written down for my g/f. She wants a ring that others will look at and not necessarily think, "wow - look at that thing shine!" but rather, "wow, i've never seen anything like that!" I'm going to likely go with an 1.5ct AVC set in a rose gold halo w/ a platinum or white gold band. Would be curious to know how you ended up faring and if you ended up making a decision for your setting. Did you find a setting that you and she were both happy with?

I struggled b/w the POH, Square Hearts & Arrows Cushion, regular cushion, and AVC myself, but I know she doesn't like the symmetry & precision of an H&A cut, so I think i'm going either cushion or AVC. What did you end up on?

I know you said no rounds and no bezel - but I thought the same thing until I saw this:

Totally unique and spectacular looking. It almost had me changing my mind!
