Looking to reset my engagement ring

I am have been going back and forth for a long time now trying to decide what I want etc. I currently have a 1.3 round diamond which is set in a six prong platinum band with a plain platinum wedding band. I have been married over 14 years so definitely want something blingier . I also don't want the "new bride" look. I "think" I have decided that I want one larger band. One that would represent both my engagement and wedding bands.

I recently found this ring. I think it is beautiful and more or less what I am looking for. The ring I am wearing is a little less than 2 carats so my stone would be smaller which would make the ring itself smaller as well. The one thing I am not super thrilled with is how far it sticks up. I would rather the ring be flatter.

I would appreciate any input or ideas.

If you're not thrilled with the height now, you'll probably never like it and it will bother you - I think I would keep looking for a setting that you don't have any doubts about. I also think your center stone might get a little lost in the setting.

I have to agree with junebug...seems like you know what you want so you should keep looking until you find it. We have had a lot
of poster reset their diamonds in multiple settings because they jump the gun then wear it for a week or two and decide its not
quite right and go looking for setting two or three. Lots of money wasted. Keep looking until you totally love the setting.

What many us here have found is that wider bands can make the diamond look smaller. So do take your time and look before buying.

They're exactly right. If the setting doesn't sing to you now, it never will. And like choosing a spouse, if there are things that bug you during the "head over heels in love with ya baby" stage, those irritants will only be magnified as you deal w/ your beloved day after day. So, I don't know if this will work for you but one PSer suggested that we try to get cheap CZ replicas close to what you're considering so you can determine how much you still like it after wearing the ring for a while. We did that, & what an eye opener! It saved a bunch of money & disappointments for us, so I recommend this idea as often as I can.

I had a nice detailed reply typed out and I lost it Anyway, my ring is similiar to the setting you are considering. I agree with you that the diamond sits quite high in that setting. If you are questioning the setting now, I suggest you keep looking.

I dont really feel that my setting makes my diamond look smaller. I actually took my diamond loose to a couple of jewelers and found the solitares that I was considering made my diamond look smaller (maybe was just their particular style) However, the side diamonds do take away some of the attention from my center diamond. That is something I continue to struggle with...it is the trade off of a blingy setting. I dont feel that my diamond gets lost in my setting unless you are looking at it from farther away. I think that is because you are looking at a circle of bling, not just one diamond. When looking at the ring on my hand, I dont feel that my diamond is lost in the setting.

I would take your time, research, and shop around to consider all your options. Consider your lifestyle. Buy a quality piece. And utimately get what YOU love.

Letitshine - I love your setting (I assume it is the one in the picture)! The setting I posted a picture of is made by a designer but I would probably have it custom made by someone else. I was told by several jewelers that the "shoulders" can be removed so the diamond just sits flush. That sounds perfect to me!

Can you please share the specifics of your ring.

Thanks Birthdaygirl. My center stone is 1.40 carat (7.24 mm diameter). My setting is approx. the same width as my diamond so about 7mm. It is platinum with 1.17 ctw. There are 46 melee at .28cts. The channel diamonds are .20, .16, and .08. The diamonds are G/H color and SI1 clarity. My ring size is 6.25.
