Hi all!

I did not think I would be upgrading when I bought my 1.5 carat ring (with lots of help from this board), but this is what happens when I "lurk" around here too much!

I am kicking around the idea of going up to 2 carats if the right price and diamond come along. I can go as low as "J" in color, SI2 (if eye-clean), and excellent cut (can't compromise on this). I am hoping to find something in the 12K range. I may be able to go up a bit on the price if I can sell my 1.5 carat to partially fund this venture. So please do your magic, Pricescopers, and help me find it!!!

Thanks so much in advance!!!

With regard to upgrade, I'd say check with the Store from where you bought the original diamond. Post the images of the diamond which they suggest you or the ones which you select.

It is very difficult (not impossible) to find a diamond with white face up with the color grade J as most of them seem to have either yellow tinge or brown tinge to em' , If they have slight yellow tinge but with medium/strong florescence then I'd say go for it as it will compliment the diamond. But still check with their gemologist. Would suggest to go higher on color grade around G or I.

For SI2 Clarity check where exactly the inclusions are, avoid going for the diamond which has inclusions on the table. I would also not suggest to go for any kind of black inclusions as they would be easily visible to naked eye. If the inclusions are near the girdle then those inclusions can be easily covered/ hidden under the prongs but for that you will have to select such kinda settings. Also avoid crystal inclusions as they might appear blackish in day light.

Does the store you bought your orginal diamond from have an upgrade policey? This might be your best bet. Plus to only go up 1/2 a carat is only the wideth of 2 sheets of paper if I'm correct- are you really going to notice that size difference? If you were changing the shape completely or at least going up a full carat I think you would notice it. But with the same shape and only 1/2 ct my concern is you would spend all that money and still not be content.

Not necessarily. A J sitting next an F, for example, may have a tint, and someone who is color-sensitive may notice a tint, but it's certainly possible to find a well-cut J that doesn't face up yellow or brown.

Thanks so much, 04diamond! I was hoping for some links on eligible diamonds and you were kind enough to post some. I am not very color sensitive because my current diamond is a J and I can't seem to see much color in it. However, I am fearful of going to a K. I will definitely check out the J ones. Please do post any others that you may come across and thanks so much, in advance, for all your help!
