Loosegrown has gotten pretty good for OEC and inexpensive!

@maryjane04 I see I wrote SC and not SCF! I think I will like it, hoping I love it. My OEC was 10mm, the OMC is 11mm.

I missed that! Your earrings are beautiful! I can relate. I always sleep in my earrings. I do best with 1.50 tcw. My natural diamonds I just had David set are closer to 1.80. I hope I can sleep in them! I sent them right back to David for different backs. So excited to get them back and wear them.

I got a pair of OEC's from Alex. I think the dormeuse idea is a great one!!! Are you open to changing the setting? They should be worn and often!

Oh wow haha 11mm is the size of my HG stone! I can't wait for you to get it haha.

Aww thank you haha yeah I haven't worn studs in decades but thought it was missing from my collection. Lmao I probably shouldn't have started with 4ctw ones hahaha. I might reset down the track or leave them. My everyday earrings are a huggie drop style so I'm back to wearing those instead. I'll bring the studs out occasionally.

Mary, what is a huggy drop style? I have never worn diamond earrings because I don’t like fussing with my earrings every single day and I don’t find comfortable to sleep in. Is there some other style I need to know about?

Hi, I know you didn't ask me, but I once had a pair of earrings Leon Mege made for me and he called them huggie drops. Imagine a fish hook earring top, but the kind that fastens at the back. The diamond is in a dormeuse type setting at the bottom, but it doesn't dangle, it is stationary. The way the earring is made, the diamond is designed to sit at the bottom of your ear lobe (right against it at the bottom). So the diamond appears to be suspended, but right next to your lobe.

I also wanted to compliment you on your skills. Looking at those before and after pics you posted, I don't know how in the world you were able to discern that the diamond would be so beautiful by that crunchy looking pic! Wow!

Haha I wear these to sleep. These are the most comfortable earrings ever and I never have to think about them. It feels secure about it clips in and it's not something that can come off like the stud backings.

Hi hello @Inked , I am looking for a 4.5ct ish OMC incase you're curious about what to do with the 2nd unneeded omc. I'm not particular about facet pattern, just been browsing LGD for something like this for a while.

oh thats awesome

Thank you so much for your explanation and sorry to hijack the thread. Ah no wonder why I love my lab oecs so much. I think very similar proportions to what you just described. I'll attach the cert. These were quite different to the mass lab oecs that we've seen.

And as for lab omc, I just saw Sin City finds on IG post some good ones that she's about to get.

Thank you @Inked I've learned so much from your posts and everyone else's in the lab forum that I don't feel completely lost! There's always so much to learn.

It’s here! It’s 11:00pm here, so no sun or shade. I just took a few photos at the kitchen table. I love the shape, love the chunky flashes of fire!!! I’m not well versed in OMC… but the center seems different than I was expecting. In the pictures from SCF’s it looked almost like a flower. Like an OEC. Thoughts anyone? I’m thrilled with the size. For some reason I always feel I can go larger in a stone that isn’t round.

On to the photos! IMG_0992.jpegIMG_0987.jpegIMG_0997.jpegIMG_0979.jpegIMG_0994.jpegIMG_0993.jpegIMG_0996.jpegIMG_0988.jpegIMG_0998.jpeg

This looks pretty authentic like an older omc. Omc are more rustic and I love that it's not as perfect and predictable. Did you prefer a more floral centre? A newer omc may have a floral centre.

No, not at all. When I thought I saw that in SCF's photos I was surprised. I like the center of mine. I'm glad to hear you think it looks pretty authentic! Thank you! I can't wait to see her outside!

It looks very nice. I think the issue you’re seeing in the centre of the stone is that it has a pavilion like a true old cut with very short lower halves. So huge pie pieces for those pavilion mains. But the table is a fair bit larger than you would see in a true antique. And that just changes the optics a little bit. The crown is probably a little shallower than a true antique as well. I’m not sure what it is that holds up new cutters from really going for the gusto with the small tables and the puffy crowns on this style of cut. I expect there’s some kind of technical reason why they don’t do that because it seems to be a really common feature of these new style old cuts. But as far as these newly cut ones go, I feel like this is a pretty nice example. I’d love to see a video!

Hi my sweet friend! Miss you! Girl, this stone is gorgeous! It has a little wonkiness to it that I love! This is the 5 carat custom cut from SSF? I’ve been considering getting one of her round OECs but I wanted to see someone else’s first. Do you love it? How will you set it? I have soooo many questions :)

@peppermintpatty YES... everything Jaq just said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!! THANK YOU for posting this!! It's beautiful!! I am looking for basically a cross between an OEC and an OMC, like i want it off round but not really a cushion, I want a center cross, bit not TOO big... lol! this is pretty much what i have been looking for!

I was even considering and shopping for a true antique out of desperation! LOL!

Just to be clear, I also think this is a beautiful diamond!! My post was more commenting on patty's observation that the under-table area wasn't what she was expecting and just commenting on how it may compare to antiques.

I will respond in a little bit! Thanks everyone! @Dreamer_D , I am Always grateful and appreciate that you share your expertise with me and everyone else! You have a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for your insight!!!

I haven’t gotten a good video:( here are some additional photos from outside on a mostly sunny day IMG_1031.jpegIMG_1032.jpegIMG_1033.jpegIMG_1034.jpegIMG_1035.jpeg

Thank you for the detailed information! The table is 51, the depth is 64.7, and the crown height is 19.5.
I would adore a tiny table and puffy crown, I am glad that even though I don't have those 2 things, I love the way she looks! :)

Thank you @jaqjaqjaq I do love that it has some wonkiness too! Yes this is the one from SCF's, details are in a new post. I Love it!!!! I loved my OEC that was cut by Southwest, but I like the wonky, the big flashes of chunky fire, and I really do feel I will like the size. I typically don't do trendy. In my defense ;) I did want a collet a couple of years ago that David was going to make. With it being a larger size, I think that would be a good option. Also, I plan on wearing it on my right hand. Hoping I can pull it off with that setting. Ask away my friend!!! :)

I always love your enthusiasm!!! I know SCF's said she is taking orders for this. I believe she said around a 4 week wait. So not too bad.

That's wonderful you think this will work for you! It will save a lot of money! Mine was 2,800. Which I think was a steal!!!

Looking forward to hearing what you decide to go with and how you will set it!!!

More details in post #47

Thank you @Dreamer_D it mean's a lot coming from you that you think it's beautiful!
Again, I appreciate you explaining that to me.

I shared more of the details in post #47.

The patterning is very classic though! Strong maltese cross showing up in these images. I also like the soft corners. Its gorgeous and its not like you can just order up a 5ct one of these in a natural diamond anyway! lol At least I couldn't.

@jaqjaqjaq this is the setting I like. I am always a N/S girl, but I want my antique marquise set N/S. I think I will do my OMC E/W…

I will definitely do the open back!

I love this setting! You’ve been after one for a hot minute so I think this checks all the boxes! The second set of photos you uploaded look beautiful! I love the chunky colors shining through! Good job!!! Now I’m wondering if I should reach out to her for an OEC…I have a setting in mind that I can’t shake :D

Thank you @Dreamer_D ! That is high praise coming from you! I can’t take very much credit! I really did look it over super quick because I didn’t want to miss out on buying it! I got lucky!!!
I could order a natural like mine for the price I paid. I ecstatic!!!

You always have the best settings!!! Your diamonds aren’t shabby either ;) not by a long shot!!! I feel bad, all of the photos were taken in a bit of a hurry. I need to take more when I’m not in a rush. I would definitely reach out to SCF’s. I believe her name is Cindy:)
Yes, it does check all of the boxes! I’m glad you like the setting too:) Thanks! I can’t wait to see what setting you have in mind!!!

This looks amazing! Is the faceting crisp throughout, including in the center? Does the center go dark at all or is the light reflection pretty even?

There have been a few stones that look crisp in the video, but were more mushy when I saw them in person. I saw her post these as well and was pretty impressed!

Wowie wow wow @peppermintpatty that rock is GORGEOUS. I love the setting idea you're going with, I hope you post some photos and video once it's set as well! Today I learned I need at least 5 carats :Up_to_something:

It's really gorgeous! Slightly wonky in the most wonderful way that makes it look like a true antique diamond.

@twosanguinehearts thank you! I feel other than taking pictures quickly, I haven't had a lot of time with her. If someone had asked me what I felt it looked like in the center, I would have said a pinwheel. I feel like because of that, to me, that keeps it pretty well lit up. There may be some slight darkening, but it's minimal. The faceting is crisp.

I would not say mushy. I am impressed as well. I hope I answered your questions!
