perhaps i will consider the Mahenges someday.Date: 10/27/2009 10:15:56 AM
Mmmm....perhaps you should consider Mahenges too?Yes, I purchased from Eric of Swala.
I really like those colours except, for a man, i cannot possibly be wearing a huge stone
haha
too bad of the male species =p
Yet spinels are among the most commonly synthetics. I doubt any synthetic would look like your loevely Mahenge (I don''t think silk grows in those - yet), but, as a general rule, I think it would be wise to get certs for expensive spinels as well.Date: 10/27/2009 1:49:16 PM

Spinels are unheated and never treated, which is a plus. If it was a sapphire, then I''d get a cert, but not for a spinel.Date: 10/27/2009 9:33:36 AM

It looks awesome! Can''t wait to see it when its finished!
I have a Q for you: A stone of this value, do you get a cert for it from Swala?
That is true about synthetics being very common in certain coloured spinels. In this case, I think an appraisal is probably sufficient since it will be used for insurance purposes.Date: 10/28/2009 6:29:34 AM

Thank you, ladies.
Another update: WF has checked out the stone and verified that everything is in order. They will now begin the CAD.
Unlike Miss AJ, I will share my CAD pictures here.

Under diffused natural sunlight, the Mahenge appears a very rich intense red. At other times, it is a red stone with hot pink flashes. Depending on the light source, it can also be a reddish pink or pinkish red stone but it never fails to glow at all times. Under incandescent lighting, it becomes a watermelon pink/red colour..
