Any idea if he accepts using the customer's stone or it must be sourced by him?

I believe I had asked once, a long time ago but I forget and things may have changed.

I'm going to send them an e-mail regarding prices on some of their items, so I'll ask about that, too.

Love the aesthetic!! I'm going to be watching to hear what you find about using customer's stones.

I sent them an e-mail asking if they'll set a loose stone you supply. I also asked prices on two rings. Would I be allowed to post the style number and price they send me or is that not PS proper?

As long as you are not the jeweler selling them, not only can you post the info, but you may be drummed off PS if you don't!

If they are the usual line offering, which sounds like they are because they have an item number, I don't see any reason not to disclose pricing. It's different when it comes to custom settings.

There are no prices on the website (that I can find).

That probably means that I can't afford it!

Beautiful jewelry. He is very talented!

Standard offerings are $300 and upwards. Custom is $2500 and upwards. You'll find his approximation under the "custom" tab.

 Oh, that is serious ! Well, information will be forthcoming asap, then.

Such a smart Chrono to find some sort of price ranges for us. Thanks !

Beautiful, some of the pieces remind me of James Meyer's work.

Sonoma,
It's called being a busybody - can't wait to find out pricing because I like what I see.

I received a reply from someone at Marc Williams.

So, on Pg. 9 (in their page numbers) (or Pg. 6 in web pages) of this catalog:
http://www.webgoldsmith.com/images/11_catalog.pdf

I asked for a price on No. 906 (simple swirl ring with .42ct thai ruby)

But with I asked for a price with a rhodolite garnet cab (instead of a thai ruby). They said - $636 (plus shipping).

I'm not sure what I think of that price. What do you all think?
----

(I don't know rubies at all.) From what I know - it is not a prime ruby area but I'm pretty sure they would still use a nice stone as they seem to do high level work.
----

As for outside stones, she asked me some questions as to what the stone was like and where I got it from. It seems like they "might" be open to outside stones.

The other setting I asked for a price on was the Santa Anna but did not get a direct price as they say they only do diamonds in that one and I had asked about putting another stone in it.

Chrono, you say busybody; I say smart & helpful ! ;)

For item 906, is that 14K yellow gold? With the stone and all, I think it is a reasonable price, especially if their workmanship is excellent. If you look around Etsy, depending on who you go to, it could also be slightly more or less.

I am not sure what you mean by "is Thai ruby in the same class as That sapphire". Most Thai rubies have been treated up the wazoo. They have been more often than not, diffused, lead glass filled and everything in between. Treatment aside, colouration wise is also not as good as they are coloured by iron rather than chromium. Not all high level designers are concerned about treatment because they tend to focus on the overall appearance. To most, as long as it looks good and there are no setting issues, it's fine. Not saying that is the case with MWG, but just generalizing.

However, the ruby used is small and a cabochon. Based on the smaller size and that it is not a faceted stone, it is more likely that the stone could be less invasively treated and of decent colour.

Yes, 14K.

I meant that I know thai sapphire is not desirable but I wasn't sure if thai ruby was another "not desirable".

Based on the smaller size and that it is not a faceted stone, it is more likely that the stone could be less invasively treated and of decent colour.

I would think that would be the case.

Would it look nice with a rhodolite or would their ruby be prettier, I wonder.

Correct, Thai rubies are "less desirable" but pickings for good quality is slim in the first place anyway.

Would it look nice with a rhodolite or would their ruby be prettier, I wonder.
Depends on what they select. I have no idea what their sources can provide.

More info from them, as some of you seemed interested.

(I love their Santa Anna setting (someone on here, a long time ago, had one). It has a southwest sort of look, imo.)

So, I asked about the Santa Anna:

In 14k yellow with a 1/4 carat diamond, the #1680 Santa Anna would range $1,180-$1,280. Most of the diamonds that stocked are SI1, G-I color range, so if you are looking for something more specific, just let us know.

Well, I would be looking for something more specific - an old cut or AVR (august vintage round). Granted at 1/4 ct. you can't see much, but round brilliants creep me. :knockout: I don't know how amenable they would be to finding an old cut stone for me. I do like smaller stones sometimes but 1/4 ct. is a bit too small even though I love the setting. They are not open to setting outside colored stones, either, I found out.

sigh . . . :|

Thanks for the update. Sigh....
