Marquise Diamond Drop Earrings

Hi, back in the spring I posted a poll about these marquise drops. I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them on Blue Nile's website. I decided to wait for a sale, which I thought would be at Christmas. But lo and behold, they went on sale recently, from $1,390 to $943. I wondered whether they might be even cheaper in the Christmas sale, but I'm glad I grabbed them because they were only on sale for a short time before being discontinued by Blue Nile. So I'm satisfied knowing I got the best possible price for them.

They are 14k white gold, 0.72 ctw, I, Si2, and really sparkly. I wanted some diamond drops that I could wear every day, and I didn't want to pay too much. I did also get the 0.50 ctw leaf drops from Blue Nile for $684, so perhaps it seems greedy to get these too. But we might as well make hay while the sun shines, I liked both pairs, will have them forever, and I'll never get these prices again.

Each diamond is 0.18 but I think they look bigger because of the generous bezel.

I'm really pleased with them and they are everything I hoped they'd be. Pity the camera can't adequately capture the sparkle. Blue Nile's settings and earrings backs are sometimes problematic, but one area where they always over-deliver and never disappoint is in the diamond quality. When I win the lottery, I'm going to buy Blue Nile, and invite everyone from PS to come and play in the warehouse!

Thanks Niel. I thought they would go well with your amazing marquise ring! I think the macro shots make them look bigger than they are. Each diamond is only 0.18, so they're quite casual really.

In one of my shots, which is blurry, one of the diamonds appears blue! is this just the camera, or is it fluoro? Anyone know which it's likely to be? See pic below.

Aha, so you remember that whole rigmarole?? Those round diamonds were incredibly white for H colour - looked the same as my Tiffany 0.22 E - and they sparkled like Brian Gavin Signatures. It was such a pity to send them back, but the setting was all wrong.

I think it's the macro photography that's making them look huge - they are only 0.18 each. The bezel does help though! It's quite generous, unlike BGD's bezel's which are wafer-thin. I like my bezels to plump up the diamond!

Thanks, Junebug! I've never seen any earrings like this, and as soon as I saw them on the BN website, I fell in love. Since they were discontinued just after I bought them, I just scraped in under the wire. They were only available for four months, so perhaps they weren't very popular, which seems odd to me because I love them so much! I know they're I colour and Si2, but I think that's reflected in the price. And although most marquise have some degree of bowtie, the cut must be OK because the bowties are minimal and they do sparkle.

Thanks, Acinom! That's quite a compliment, coming from someone with amazing bling like yours! My ring is a 0.70 I Si1, but it's a Hearts on Fire so very sparkly if not the biggest in town! Note that I have plumped it up with a bezel!

Thanks, Rosebloom! What a nice compliment about my collection. Most people on here have diamonds which are far bigger than mine so I always feel a bit sheepish about my things compared to some! I guess I've got more jewellery pieces, as opposed to single diamonds.

Thanks Marcy! I have become quite taken with dangle earrings lately. I think the movement can be very flattering to the face, somehow - maybe because they're very feminine. I've got a smallish face though, so I can't wear large dangles.

There is a pair of gold Tiffany dangles which I love, but they are plain metal with no stones at all and cost $1,000 plus tax, which I just feel I can't justify for metal only.
