Marquise diamond--I need a crash course about this cut!

A friend of DH has asked for my assistance to help him and his girlfriend pick out a diamond. I haven''''t talked to them yet so I don''''t know very much about what they want. I only know what DH has found out--which is she likes the marquise cut and the setting may be white metal. Of course, any of this can change as she begins actually seeing individual stones.

I imagine they want to understand the basic 4Cs (which I can explain) but what are some suggestions you would offer specifically regarding the marquise cut? I just don''''t know much about it.

What about preferred depth? table size?....or is there a trusted online vendor that has an eye for the marquise cut? (like Mark at ERD is known for his eye for the cushion cut).

I know so much depends on the eye of the beholder but what do you think?...what do you know?...and what would you have done differently when purchasing your marquise?

I have done some PS research, so don''''t think I''''m too lazy, but I know so many of you are informed and I just want the highlights of what you already know. Many thanks!!
