Marquise Diamond..

I am a big fan of marquise cuts, as my mom has one, and my daughter is also into them.If she ever gets engaged, that's the shape she wants. She is an artist, and that shape speaks to her! The east/ west settings are amazing. It is hard to look around for marquise cuts, because many jewelry stores do not carry them in stock. Enjoy your marquise, you have an enormous budget, and can get a real looker!

Thanks for the reply, I hope to get my gf in a marquise diamond.. The east/west setting is beautiful!

Love the neil lane setting! I think he's more expensive than tacori though  I recently requested a quote from him for a halo setting and he quoted me 22k and up

I'd get a victor canara before I'd drop 8k on a tacori. But I haven't found my way onto that bandwagon ::)

This is a potentially nice marquise if it is eyeclean. I would ask them if they would send it to the GIA for you. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10223/

Width: 6.23mm
Length: 12.25mm

NICE sized stone. Minimal bowtie.

Very nice, I am still working on getting my gf to absorb all the info I have given her.. We are going to see a marquise diamond on her finger tomorrow.. This will tell a lot.. Thanks..

I too love the look of a marquise and it's a great value if you're look for sparkles and size for the money. I'll be excited to hear what she thinks of it on her hand, I think she'll just LOVE it. I have a few friends who have them and they're quite captivating!

If it turns out that she wants something a little less angular, you could also have her take a look at some ovals to see what she thinks. Well cut ovals are also not easy to find (they're elongated as well, so you have to search for faint/minimum bowties) but like the marquise, they give really great coverage and sparkle for a really nice price.

I worked w/ Good Old Gold to find my current oval and I'd recommend them again (for any fancy shape) in a heartbeat. They have more stones than you'll see on their website and they're great to work with WRT budget (whatever you're planning to spend), so I always suggest that you contact them directly vs making up your mind by what's posted on their site.

Let us know what your GF thinks and if she'll let you take some pics w/ some rings, feel free to share them just for fun. We LOVE eye candy around here LOL :D !!

I will definitely keep everyone updated when she gets the marquise diamond on her finger.. We had a long talk yesterday and she is worried it won't sparkle like a round diamond.. Is this true?

yes. They do sparkle, but it is different than a round. She will see when she looks at them

Exactly, and she needs to look at a number of them to compare because not all marquise's (plural??) have the same amount of sparkle. It's like any other shape of diamond, within each shape there are those that are going to look better than others. They're not all equal, so you have to do some shopping around to find the one that really lights up her eyes.

So I'm going to be honest. I'm a fancy cut fan. I would take just about any shape over a round brilliant. Just because I prefer personality in my diamonds.

BUT round brilliants are graded by multiple labs for light performance. Chief among them AGS labs. And they are much easier to cut for light performance and consistency than any fancy shape.

Marquise are impossible for the labs to grade for light performance. And even the nicest ones do not put out the same amount of light than an ideal cut round brilliant would. So while the diamond will sparkle it won't be able to match a diamond that has ideal light performance. A round is one of the best choices for maximum sparkle.

Alternatives to rounds-- also graded for ideal light return are: Brian Gavin Signature Cuhions, Briella Cushions, Canera Vintage Cushions, and August Vintage Cushions (all branded lines) and AGS0 princesses.

So if she likes cushions or princesses, that may be another option for you.

Those will have light performance that rivals a round. And they will also have personality too.

Another option, and this is my favorite one is... a round shaped diamond with ideal light return that is NOT a modern round brilliant. Take a look at these, I guarantee no one else will have anything like it and it will sparkle like crazy.

The line is called August Vintage and it is a facet pattern similar to antique diamonds but with the light return of a modern round brilliant. It gives you the best of both worlds-- ideal light return AND a different personality. And at 1.5 carats and above that lovely flower-petal faceting is going to knock your socks off

And they would look AMAZING in any vintage style setting, like the tacoris.

Gypsy.. Thanks so much.. Very informative!

ainglee,

so i knooow its only (ha! only ) 1.58 cts, but as fancies, unlike rounds, can look larger or smaller than their ctw depending on how deep the stone is, this actually faces up quite large at 12.85*5.79

and its a D VS2 and to me looks promising

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/marquise-cut/1.58-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-287292

and that would certainly be at least a little less due to a pricescope discount... so lets say what 13500? that would leave you 6500 for a setting, which I would thiiiink would leave you enough to get an amazing vintage setting from single stone (correct me if I'm wrong guys) and to me they make much more amazing and authentic antique looking rings that tacori..

Or id contact victor canara, see what he could do.

That is of course if she likes them... still waiting to hear back on that ;)

Hey everyone.. We were able to get to a local jeweler who carried a pretty wide array of marquise diamonds.. I have to say my gf is so torn right now about the shape of diamond she wants.. I feel like she is leaning toward the round, cause of the sparkle versus the marquise.. The Tacori band I listed is quite expensive and some of you seem to think I can get it made cheaper through a good bench-hand.. I plan to go this route, versus Tacori.. I will know more tomorrow, cause she said she needed a day to think this all over.. She is in love with this Tacori setting, so I need to let her remain happy instead of persuading her.. Thanks everyone.. I will be in touch with plenty of questions lol..

Going custom or not depends on the particular tacori design. Some can be made custom, some really can't be made custom well. So please post the actual setting and we'll let you know which type you have. :wavey:

Yeah... your lady knows she can't wear a flush fit band next to that (no matter what Tacori says). She will at the least need a spacer between the rings so they don't damage each other.

You could get CLOSE to that custom. But there are copyright issues so they won't be able to do an exact copy. And it's not an easy one to copy, but it's not impossible either. I'd work with Engagement Rings Direct, they have the best record of making settings that are close to Tacori.

Awww, I'm such a hopeless romantic so I just had to chime in and say how EXCITED I am for you ! I'm so glad you guys had a chance to actually try on a number of rings so you could see what your future wife really likes.

You obviously value her input and her happiness, and I just find that so heartwarming :)) (vs turning the ring selection process into a tug of war LOL). Thanks for sharing your journey with us, this is so much fun!!
